Vladimir always gives an extra dimension to the music, like an extra layer, that no other pianists have. Many pianists can play it technically good, but nobody gives that extra that Vladimir gives.

Ici, tout est parfait, délicat, précis, dans le plus grand respect de ce que Debussy a écrit (phrasés, accents, mélodies en relief, nuances, rythmes, ...), jouant avec les subtilités de l'oeuvre sas rien dénaturer, afin de proposer une interprétation qui demeure très personnelle malgré tout. Magnifique en tout point.

Ashkenazy is such a consummate artist. His spirit and desire to learn the western style of music comes through beautifully in this recording. I always try to find recordings of the great piano works of various pianists and I always search to see if Ashkenazy has recorded the work. I'm so glad this man was brave enough to leave the Soviet Union.
I'm here to defend those coughing. At big time concerts such as this, management often print expensive brochures using petroleum based inks. The vapors irritate the throat causing an epidemic of hacking, sneezing and coughing. Just my opinion but I think it explains a lot.
Vlad is a great pianist who often finds things in the music that others do not. The first bars of this piece are stretched dangerously thin... but hold. Just wish it had been recorded in a studio free from coughers, sneezers and farters. Not a pianist myself I would imagine Debussy is difficult to play well. My ex partner, classically trained, wouldn't touch it, alas.

you're right.if i'd been him i would have left the stage and only come back when the wheezers etc had composed themselves or left.
