Bacardi is the largest privately held, family-owned spirits company in the world. Originally known for its Bacardi white rum, it now has a portfolio of more than 200 liquor and spirits labels. Here's how they did it!
Don Facundo Bacardi emigrated to Cuba from Spain in 1830. Arriving as a wine merchant he set up as a grocer in the 1840s and was experimenting with distillation by 1852 trying to improve the quality of the local rum by trying various technical experiments in distillation and aging.
Bacardi would go on to witness the Independence of Cuba and the Batista revolution, during which its assets got seized by the Castro regime. Despite the setback, Bacardi remains one of the most successful liquor and spirits brands in the world, owning hundreds of quality labels, including the rights to sell Havana Club in the US.

Imagine how drunk this dude got while trying to create the perfect rum lmao
Dylan Nix probably part of the reason he did it
@@SidneyJupiter lol
Lol😂
bruh
What do you get when you mix alcohol and literature?
Tequila Mockingbird
Tony Music lol😂😂
Tony Music eeeyyyy *finger guns*
Hahahahahaa 😂😂😂😂👍👍👍
Ernest Hemingway famously loved Bacardi
@@harkness1720 Oh, perfect. That's perfect.
Why do you only have 136k subscribers? The amount of detail you put in is awesome and taught me things I didn’t know about companies
because sheeps subscribe to swaggers
don't know how you compare these channels. Wendover Productions is great channel with multiple great topics , but topics are different . This channel for example is about history of companies/brands. Where do you find ''ripoff''???? Just because that both channels research their topics??
This channel was created at May last year. It's normal to only have this number of subcribers early in your channel history
AlphaxAlex bc more than not people are idiots now days and don't really care to learn anything bc they just say they will google it
just because someone doesn't subscribe to a damn youtube channel, does NOT make them an idiot. that's a stupid thought
My only knowledge of Rum is that Jack Sparrow and his crew love it
Rum is used oftenly for making cakes.
Where has the rum gone?
thegreatcalvinio the entire Royal Dutch navy is out looking for me, do you think there is any chance they won't see this.
unknown Unknown finally we fucking found you
@@stanheijstek4501 LMAO you drunk
Wat lul je
You shed light on really intresting stories about companies that i generally wouldn't even think about. Keep up the great content
I'm a rum aficionado, trying to become an expert (in my own mind).... I find Bicardi's U.S. offerings among the worst for sipping neat or on a rock. Seriously.
Awesome video, very informative and well paced, this channel is gonna be HUGE one day.
!!!!
Tech Showdown It's gonna be YUGE!
It gappened
happened
Nice Banjo-Kazooie music in the background! :)
0:45
Glad I'm not the only one that heard that.
ZeroOne haha I noticed the same thing. what was it, Treasure Trove Cove?
I believe that's made by what it's called a Trio some kind of guitar used to make peasant music in Cuba.
do a video on Casio, please.
Cruz Angel Garcia It would be great!
YES, that's an amazing idea!
Bacardi & Cola, they get the job done...💯✔
So Emilio was exiled to my country twice!
I'm gonna buy a bacardi celebrating a visit that happened more than 100 years ago, twice
can you do a video on google?
Mmmmmm yes
Voltz Productionz yeah he will grow faster if people know what he's talking about. his videos on famous brands are his most viewd
barely any history.
jojojorisjhjosef I wouldn't go as far as to say it has no history, how the company began and grew is very interesting the founder didnt even understand simple coding and not to mentiin the amount of companies they have acquired
I love the smell and taste of BC
like when i was inexperienced with hard alcohol , all i knew was vodka n whiskey... when i first tried Rum (specifically Bacardi) I fell in love , i didnt know how such a fruity sweet taste could exist at 37,5% alcohol...
i could actually drink it without needing to mix it with something since it was naturally sweeter than vodka or whiskey
...
surpised to know that this was the purpose for Barcardi's existence...
You are so right! The SMELL, or should I say, the ' aroma ' from the wood casts takes one back to a time before we were born walking alongside them with the Bicardi family showing us around 😃
Phenomenal video-- this company is very near to my heart as my grandfather worked here. As an MBA I absolutely love your videos!
I did want to note a mistake-- Bacardi is currently headquartered in Bermuda, not The Bahamas.
Glad you liked it! You're absolutely right that Bacardi is now headquartered in Bermuda, that was an oversight on my part. The Bacardi family did, however, initially relocate to the Bahamas after Castro took over.
havana club made in cuba is much much better than any bacardi i've ever tried
That’s bull shit lol. From a Cuban
Only rum distilled in Cuba is appropriate for a Cuba Libre. Bacardi is Puerto Rican.
Yes sir🇵🇷
He forgot the part with Cardi B
What part
@@santoshp7887 that's where she got her "name" from
Rum is my no.1 spirit for a reason the history is just as rich as the liquor. I love The kraken and Bacardi the most out of all the rum brands
Bacardi own the rights to Havana Club in the US, Pernod Ricard own the rights to Havana Club internationally
You do really have a lot of "EasterEggs" in your videos (Example 2:01, when you see it, you know it) :3
major lazer
That wasn't what I meant, I didn't even noticed this one :D
[look where the logo should be]
Someone tell who is that anime girl supposed to be
its not a girl lol, he comes from RE:zero
I only hear the banjo kazoie's song in the background.
Last time I was this early Terry crews still voiced doomfist
Background music sounds like Banjo Kazooie remastered
Faye The Archer I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed! XD
Music in the background sounds like banjo kazooie treasure trove cove slowed down! Very fitting too.
Note: We puertoricans don't drink BACARDÌ
Eril Burgos Speak for yourself
Behind the Business: Johnnie Walker.
Not a very good quality rum these days. The best is Ron de Barrilito from Puerto Rico, the Tres Estrellas version. They should pronounce the name right, Bacardí is pronounced with an accent on the last "I".
I got a really interesting one for you, do Swedish Match
suggestion do a video about maersk line the danish company:)
Do Chevrolet
GM as a whole preferably
Interesting I didn't even think there was a notable history of rum.
If you need a picture of a Spanish wine, please next time don't choose an Italian wine.
A video on Philip Morris International would be a great one, I bet!
Do a video on Gordon Ramsay's restaurants pleaseee!!!
That bottle said Major Lazer lol
there is a factory here in puerto rico
you're videos are succinct, informative and easy to listen to.
Someone gave me a bottle of amber label dark dry rum a few days ago bottled 1984...I gotta say..WOW...great stuff. It's so smooth. I can probably even drink only with ice.
The Martini cocktail is not named after Martini and Rossi's vermouth. That's mere coincidence.
When I hear them discontinued 151 I went out and bought up cases of it. Many memories back in the 70’s . Share your Bacardi moments!
Actually, the first alcoholic beverage I ever purchased and drank was a rum punch made with Bacardi at a local Caribbean restaurant. It's become something of a favorite of mine.
You should do NVIDIA or AMD/ATI next
Wtf I almost finished this bacardi dragonberry half gallon in one night. Does that make me an alcoholic? Lmao
This is a one sided view of Cuban history. It also gets the story of the Havana club lawsuit wrong, Cuba won and that is why it is allowed to export globally and Bacardi is not. It is crazy to paint such a massive loss as a victory.
Watch this while drinking the great white rum of Bacardi.
Could you do RYANAIR? They got so big so fast...
Can you do Swissport I would love behind story History of Swissport
If bacardi were to be founded in 2020 , pretty sure the logo would be smth else
Does the guitar song sound like Treasure Trove Cove from Banjo-Kazooie or am I going crazy! 🤓
Please do IKEA 🇸🇪
do one on Don Q alcohol
Barcadi with coca cola. The only alcoholic drink coming close to Fritz kola and Strohmann korn.
Do one on Jameson whiskey
I love the fact that you're highlighting smaller conglomerates which are industry pioneers and giants in their own operating sector rather than big well known ones (which have already been profiled elsewhere too).
This and last video, Bic for example took me by surprise.
Hope you can do Maersk next, followed by Victorinox, Hasselblad, Scania, Accenture, Siemens, BASF! You get the idea...
"I got a little drink but it's not Bacardi"
Anyone? nope? okay
Oryon if love the girl .. iam so so sorry
Cuba is #1🇨🇺
The brand that Barcardi sells is a cheaply labeled obscured bottle that nobody wants. I drink Bacardi rum but when it comes to drinking rum, I prefer Havana Club not from Bacardi. So it's better to buy it in Canada or Latin America or even Europe. I always make sure I bring bottles from Canada, Panama and Europe every year, so I don't have to touch Bacardi's fake Havana Club rum.
Amaizing videos just subbed , I guess a video on tech gaint "TATA" would be interesting :)
Why is there felix from re:zero at 2:02?
_Ho ho ho and a bottle of rum_
Loved the background music, great and subtle reference
I always enjoy the Bacardi Gold Rum a lot. It gets me through the night. It puts me to sleep!!!
Bruh that’s called alcoholism
@@benelli9479 I learned my lesson since I had to end up in the hospital since I was found unresponsive. This is why I definitely quit alcohol for good.
Great content and production. Your style is excellent.
Is puertorican rum.
once my mom let me taste her alcohol and that's all the knowledge I have
Cuba? Puerto Rico
Nah bro, Bacardí tastes like glue, Havana Club ftw... The international one I mean, not the only for U.S import one, that's just more Bacardí
This video is terrible. Completely ignores the terrorist history of the Bacardi family and glosses over the fact that Cuba aquired the rights to the american Havana Club brand three years after the license expired in 1973. Bacardi didn't buy the "rights" (that had already expired) until 1994.
Cardi B 🤔
I love the 8 year old.
interesing Video!
Bacardi means "stupid" in Japanese
Nagusaki means nothing in slang Spanish the irony huh…
Just don't fuck what happened in past ....
I just love Bacardi 🥃🤗👌😋😋
Im Cuban and didnt know this much about Bacardi
can u do a video on unilever
i dont understand, how can bacardi be making havana club in other places if it was also being made in cuba? also what happened to the bacardi facilities in cuba after castro took them over?
2:00 is that a motherfucking trap? In my fucking rum? I didn't know the gods was so pleased with me as to bless me with the two greatest thing on the planet.
Sort of seems like the Bacardi family didn't understand what a socialist revolution is? Of course they nationalized everything.
It seems like Castro adopted socialism once in power. They probably expected him to be the usual kind of dictator from that time.
Off topic, but fucking hell that music sounds so familiar to banjo kazooie, the sand level one.
Wow, I would love to know where you got all these photos, my grandfather is in these!
It’s a shame there distillery is now a old museum in Cuba than a actual functioning one
6:05 Not too surprising. Castro promised a capitalist revolution, not a communist one.
Next video should be about finlandia or jhonny walker.
Bacardi?no thanks, Old Monk? 2 bottles please...
The owners grandson is in my class
Can anyone tell me to get my money's worth, what is the ideal rum for pina colada?
if you like rum.. then you dont like bacardi XD
I what my fucking 151 back please
please edit you video to instead of saying.... "Spread like wild fire" but instead say "Spread like covid-19" Because of the lucky logo.....
Stop
Drug-dealing has never sounded so romantic.
Here cuz of Lana taking about bacacardi on bartender
lmao same
that named cardi b😑
Unreal right smh
This stuff got my uncle life in prison LOL
Bacardi Superior is vile.
My Cousin David Crowe was first mate on the Rumrunner for a few years which is Luis Bacardi's offshore fishing boat,Luis loves to compete in fishing tournaments here in Miami and all around the Caribbean,he's a super nice guy and down to earth,he used to come by our house to visit Dave At 4:20;)And was always really laid back and easy going....Dave fishes out of the Carolinas now and Luis is still fishing here in Miami and that's about the most unfamous famous person I've ever known:)
🇵🇷✌🏽
Great channel, I've recently discovered it and I'm about to watch every video in a few days. I ask myself if you could do such a video about Mercedes-Benz or Airbus? Or Volkswagen because there are many other car brands that belongs to VW.
Bacardi just fired my dad after he worked there 11 years because of a rework. The people who made the decision also just gotten hired. The leadership there is completely unstable and jobs are changing every few years.
Took the Barcardi tour. Found out a woman by the name of Georgina saved barcardi’s recipes and paperwork during a raid on that estate. Theirs a restaurant named in her honor there. PR overall is a interesting place! Also didn’t grasp how intwined “BLACK” history is in PR.
Watching this while drinking a Mojito on a beach in Goa, Gracias Facundo.......!!
