Angelina Jordan Astar performed Gloomy Sunday as her first public audition on "Norway's Got Talent", Friday, March 7h, 2014.
The song was composed by Hungarian pianist and composer Rezső Seress and published in 1933. Original title: Szomorú Vasárnap (Sad Sunday).
Angelina's version is based on the Billie Holiday version from 1941.
The fact that Billie Holiday did not write this song, may be why Angelina says "Gloomy Sunday f r o m Billie Holiday" in stead of "b y".
(Norwegian: "Gloomy Sunday f r a Billie Holiday", in stead of "a v".
    The judges are:
Lisa Tønne, born 1977. Stand-up artist and actress, tv host and actress.
Omer Michael Jamal Bhatti, born 1984. Rapper and dancer. Stage name: O-Bee He is also known for
    his friendship to Michael Jackson.
Bjarte Hjelmeland, born 1970. Actor, stand-up artist and theatre director.
After the Norway's Got Talent contest was over, he portrayed Angelina in one of his stand-up shows.
Angelina saw it, and thought it was funny.
Search Google Images for - " Bjarte Hjelmeland Angelina " - to see picture.
Mia Gundersen, born 1961. Singer and actress (both theatre and musicals).
    ----
Here's from an interview with Angelina on Norwegian TV2,
Lørdagsmagasinet (The Saturday Magazine" April 5th, 2014:
    Commenter speaking:
"Angelina and her family have lived several years abroad, and she has
a special story she wants to tell us (...) When she is on stage she never wears shoes,
and the reason for this is an experience she had as a six-year-old,
when she and her family lived in the middle east.
There she met a girl who worked as a street vendor.
    Angelina speaking:
"...she said, how nice shoes you have. I asked, do you want them?
I gave them to her, and she said, thank you. And then I said, what is your dream?
She said, I want to be a doctor, but I can't. I said, you must never give up.
Then she said, I will pray for you, and you must remember me. That's why I am barefooted."

Although I want to thank you for reacting to this, I must add that I was a bit disappointed that you stopped the video BEFORE one of the judges (Alisa, the "You ARE music" judge) added another comment AFTER Angelina left the stage! Maybe you can watch the rest of this video during your "free" time. Thanks again!

Thank you for your reaction. Many people make the mistake by judging Angelina's voice when she was young and started singing on NGT. She always adopts her voice to fit the song the way she wants to convey it to the listeners. Now watch her performs when she was 6 yo in a studio her first take of the song" I who have nothing". Totally a different voice and not so soft and gentle.

Hi Janette. It obviously comes natural to her. At the beginning of the part where she was ready to sing, it looks like she was already directing someone to do something. She's had full control of everything she does since the age of 7, if not earlier. Wow.

As you said she held back on this because even then she had the ability to belt stuff out if she wanted to (look at her as 6 yo in studio) but this song did not call for that. She delivered what she wanted to deliver. Outstanding. Nice reaction.

Exactly. When you see small children on talent shows they usually try to belt as loud as they can to impress. This song isn’t that kind of song in the first place. It’s allows Angelina to show her real talent at a very young age. Her details and nuances.

Angelina made "Gloomy Sunday" aka The Hungarian Suicide song, sound like a beautiful lullaby. The judges nailed it at first listen. You are a old soul. You ARE music. Born to sing and a star. She understood the song was about a sad Sunday.
I am still in a state of bliss after attending Angelina's first public concert in the USA on September 22.

There are some things l have learned about this performance. Angelina decided not to wear shoes. Her mother was stressed by her decision but Angelina said she didn't want to make it all about her. Second Angelina is a creature of night. She found this song on you tube late at night. She said in a listening party for her EP that she likes to sing "deep in the night." Third her mother said she cried during this performance that she recognized things would never be the same. She was now going to share her daughter with the world.

Thank you Bob always enjoy your AJ reactions she was already the jazz queen just waiting for her body to catch up, who else would choose Gloomy Sunday at 7 yes only AJ and put her heart and soul into it, I never stop smiling when it's anything to do with her, and now although she looks like a Goddess and very mature when she sings, when she speaks she is the same pure humble loving beautiful AJ, what ever the word is to define her, she is it, the one and only, always, our girl and we will be with her every step while we are on planet earth and hand the baton to the up and coming Angels to keep her surrounded by love, the least we can do for all the joy and love she gives us. At her recent concert she was greeted with a standing ovation before she spoke or even sang she is love personified.💗👣

Here is a quote from Angelina (7y) from an interview with TV2 after her Auditions NTG 2014. "The reason I chose this song is completely random. I love jazz, but" Gloomy Sunday "was random. It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad where I wanted to listen to jazz on RUclips before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and with her eyes closed. I heard the song "Gloomy Sunday" that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood well what the text was about because I know English well. Every time I sang it I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. When I sang it for mom, she said that this song is nice, but that it was incredibly sad song. " 🔥🔥🔥♥👣

One correction, Bob: You said "Gloomy Sunday" was a Billie Holiday song from 1971? Billie Holiday Died in 1959 and she recorded "Gloomy Sunday" on December 8th, 1947.

Glad you finally reacted to the performance that launched Angelina's popularity & career. What's amazing to me is that while she's understandably nervous at the short interview in Norwegian - once she starts singing, she does so in perfect English like a seasoned pro. You noted that even at age 7 she was singing barefoot. That's because the event that started that happened when she was 6 in the Middle East. (Her grandmother Mery Zamani is from Iran.) Anyway - to hear it in Angelina's own words, you need to watch her interview with Anne Lindmo. I believe Angelina was around 9 at the time of the interview (when she had just released her book) & she reads out loud to the audience from her own diary that she kept at age 6! Thank you. And may GOD continue to watch over & bless Angelina Jordan.

This was Angelina’s public debut. Previously she had only done recording at her school’s studio and not for the public. It was probably just part of her music studies.
From what I understand, this performance was recorded late 2013. (Shown on TV early 2014) I Put a Spell On You was recorded around March 2015 at age 9. The amount of vocal development in less than a year and a half is incredible. And apparently all without a vocal coach or trainer.

If you listen to the original by Billie Holiday, you will believe that Billie was
reincarnated in this, at the time, 7 year old girl from Norway. She was labeled
as being a 'vocal chameleon' at that time and it has continued to this day. It's
amazing how many different genre singers she can emulate, with regard to
    vocals, as this girl.

Most of us don't mind at all to watch the commentary on any of Angie's videos, in fact, i'd say most of us prefer to watch it all as every interaction with her gives a better picture of who she is and why we love her as a person in addition to her wonderful vocals. Definitely check out the songs from her new Ep "Old Enough" all 6 songs are just amazing!

Great reaction to Miss Adorable Incarnate! Angelina was 7 in this audition, and soon turned 8 throughout the competition. This was 2014, and she won the competition at 8 with 46% of the entire votes! The next year, at age 9, is when she did "I Put a Spell on You." There is also a video of her around age 5 or 6 in her home, showing off her room, toys, dolls, etc., and doing a shockingly good job singing Adele's "Rolling in the Deep"! Also 2 or 3 videos of her singing in her elementary school's music sound room at age 6 ("I Who Have Nothing"; "Rolling in the Deep" again; and "Hurt"). She has gone from a super cute little doll to now a super stunning 17-year old big doll with phenomenal vocal range and richness. Just did her first American public appearance at Music Hall, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, this past Friday with a sold-out audience! She sang an incredible 18 songs made up of the 6 originals from her recently released EP, plus various others of her originals and covers.

Hi Bob, I’ll always remember the record adaptors, for some reason, when I’m here on your channel. I’ve noticed that you haven’t gone on to do the other 3 songs of the 4-song quartet that she did for Norske Talenter, or Norway’s Got Talent (NGT). She’s a prodigy, and she really learns faster and adapts it to her singing as compared to most other people, and she does that here with each song at NGT, as the contest is filmed over 3-4 months. Here are the links for the three songs that Angelina Jordan sang for NGT in 2014, after “Gloomy Sunday.”
    “I’m a Fool to Want You,” (pa1189j) ruclips.net/video/LXknLZDoRVQ/видео.html
“Bang Bang, My Baby Shot Me Down." (John Kjetil Johannessen) ruclips.net/video/pcBoB49Gxn8/видео.html
    and “Summertime.” (pa1189j) ruclips.net/video/bnpFsCNKzFg/видео.html
It’s just incredible when you listen to her; even at “I’m a Fool to Want You,” she sounds so much older than she is, and with “Bang Bang and “Summertime,” you wouldn’t be able to really guess her age if you weren’t watching the TV. Please listen to the other 3 songs of the 4-song quartet, and you could even put these 3 songs in a single video, as they’re not very long, and please enjoy them as they’ve done so completely for us. ❤
