- Ahoy Fisho's! In this weeks episode I head out to chase a fish that loves to hunt around the beacons. The mighty school mackerel! Schoolies are a super exciting fish to target. Everything is fast! You wind fast, they hit fast and they run faster! During the warmer months of the year they are in plentiful numbers thanks to an influx of bait in the bay area. To top it all off they are great eating and offer very minimal waste at the filleting table as I show you a few tips and tricks to help clean your catch!
I hope you Enjoy the Episode!

Nice to see Sammy getting his rod out , for some great pole pursuit :P
Also nice that he shared some of the pole fun with his friend :P
I guess if your going to play with poles, first thing in the morning would be best!
🤣🤣🤣 that’s a pretty good summery of the day! 🤣
Hahaha what's better than this fish flix show? Watching Guesty get taught how to catch flatly's, classic.👍🤣🤣🤣

Loving the sounder info/help.....another awesome session
No drama’s mate! Glad it helped 💪💪
Mate this took me right back to that red hot session a couple of years ago. Love the poles!
Hahah what a day that was! How about those sharks! 😳😳
You guys are awesome 👏 enjoy watching from Washington State 🇺🇸 What fun relaxing times. 🎣
Oh awesome! Thanks for watching guys 🤗🤗🍻🍻

Top vid again mate👍
Hahah thanks mate 💪💪
Nice mate, can't beat a good spin sesh. Love it.
Cheers big fella! Hope you guys are well 🍻🍻
Plenty of slippery poles and stinky Pies at The Beat fellas. You'd both go great there 😂
“Needs a bit of night night” 😂😎
Just a quick little nap 🤣
What's more impressive is how you guys were practically just putting them into the bag straight from the water 😂 another good session mate
Hahah it’s all in the swing mate 🤣🤣
Gotta love the good old Twistie
Never fail! 👌👌
Dunno if you know what a halibut is, it’s kind of the North American equivalent of what you call a flatty. I caught a 33 inch (84cm) California Halibut, which is pretty much epic to catch from the shore surfcasting. Wanted to share that since your channel is one of a few that got me into fishing the ocean in the first place. 13lbs fish that is 80% fillet, like 10lbs of the best tasting non pelagic one can catch here in California. Thanks for the stoke for fishing you inspired! Not luck either, 4 hour session casting for that one fish landed but man was it worth it!
I do know the old halibut! That’s awesome mate, congrats on the fish! Hope you get a few more 💪💪
How cool is it 😎😍 might have to give it a go one day 🤞🍻
Get into them mate! Great fun 👌👌
That looks like too much fun!
It is mate, always look forward to the schoolies rocking up! 💪💪
Did this growing up with my dad, up north wa (Pilbara) best fishing but them Tax man are huge! Biggest I’ve seen was 19m, just Cruze past
Sitting here waiting for this one🤘🎣
🙌🙌🙌 legendary mate!
Nice Sammy. I heard that you can dehydrate the tails and give them to your dog. Good for them and they love em
Well there you go! Even more uses! 🍻🍻
Firstly, I was thinking what would be the fastest and most effective body armour to make. And I actually came up with the idea of duct tape brigandine. For example, you buy 5mm thick titanium plates and then duct tape them together as a vest with shoulders and you could even do a brigandine helmet. The squares need to be about the size of your hand or palm of your hand. In addition, you could also do 12mm thick aluminium squares or 4mm steel squares for the duct tape brigandine. However, your steel brigandine is going to be heavier and provide slightly less protection. Lastly, you can expect the titanium and aluminium brigandine to stop 10mm Glock rounds at point blank range and the steel to stop 9mm at point blank range.

Sunday arvo fishing with Sammy
Yeww awesome job legend you’re lucky
You get any Morton bay bugs while you were there
Cheers mate! Nah mate no bugs! Don’t even know how to catch them to be honest 🤷♂️🤷♂️
I’m sure you’re sick of hearing it but another great video love Sammy Sundays
🙌🙌🙌 appreciate the support mate!
Sammy, thanks for the videos. Could it be possible to show me how you smoke fish as I have tried a few different ways that just aren't quite right? Any advice will be appreciated?
G’day mate, no drama’s at all! If you type in Sammy hitzke fish smoking I’ve already done a video a couple of years ago 👌👌
What make and size boat were you guys fishing out of..love the vids.
There was definitely some slugs out at schoolies back in the day
Hahaha certainly was 🤣🤣😉
Hi Sammy
That is a great catch, when will the school mackerel end of season?
Usually January or February they start to slow down mate 👍
Thank you sammy.
Was out there today only managed a couple of squid 🦑
What bag is that you are using to keep the fish in? I have been looking for something like that for ages but couldn't find anything.
Very much liked the look of Lindsey’s pole he used on those schoolies. What was it do you know and what did he have it loaded up with?
It's the 270H heavy shimano zodias mate, running a little bit over gunned with 30lb braid 👍
Lindsay’s all over it 👌
When are you gonna come to WA? Come and catch where everything is big!
Hopefully when the boarders open up I’ll get over there 🤞🤞
@@SammyHitzkeFishing I’d be hell keen to see some vids of you hooking up to some big dhuies and get amongst the vexed bottom meat
Entertaining light tackle session 👌 Have you tried spot locking rather than drifting ?
Thanks mate! Yeah tried spotlocking, the current is usually too strong for it
Is there a particular time of the year that is better than others for this? I went last season, but we only caught a single mackerel. We did hit mid tide on a big tide though and couldn't hold our position at all.
Usually summer in my most productive time for the school mackerel 👌
Where can I find one of those hats.. love the vids btw... all the way from Curacao
The one you guys are using on the boat. don't know what they are called
love the vids bro
Thanks mate! 🍻🍻
Great vid as always @sammy , quick question though, how do you reckon an older glass tip style rod like an ugly stick gold or Daiwa beefstik would go? Maybe not as whippy but heaps of power down low and a nice tip still. I've switched to lighter gear for snapper and hope the same outfit might work in this scenario too
Thanks mate! I’m not really familiar with that rod but I’m sure it would be fine. Just give it a whirl and see how it goes 👌👌
My mate and I used the old ugly sticks and silstar powertips, the double bound ones, for years on every type of fishing imaginable, the fibreglass tips were great for casting, even used them for tailor in the surf with surprising results !
Any reason for no ice in the esky or just forgot?
I had 4x 2kg freezer bricks. Plenty of cold in them for a quick morning session 👍
hey sammy:) cheers from nsw!
G’day Guys! Thanks for watching 🍻🍻
Hi Sammy ,
Second watching the video.
Made me realise , I never got the answer to the question from you.
What is actually this red mat , the very same we keep seeing on your videos?
Thank you
Sorry mate I must have missed your comment!
The red mat is just to put between the seat and the back of my legs while I’m driving long distances. The icebox seat that came with the boat has a big, hard and rough ridge around the outside that hits you right in the calf muscle when driving behind the console. The red mat is just something I had lying around that I took one trip to combat it. Ended up working well so I just take that every trip now and rather then actually fixing the problem 🤣🤣💁♂️
Luar biasa friend🎣🎣🎣
Mate, just a quick question, do the beacons coming out of the Port of Brisbane work or are you across at the beacons off Moreton?
I fish the ones closer to Moreton mate 👍
@@SammyHitzkeFishing cool, thanks for the reply
They all work mate
Could start a fish fertiliser business as a sideline, awesome for growing plants
How did you turn Lindsay down to "No Bleepers"?
He's just good at editing haha
Howd you enjoy mooloolaba this weekend bud
Yeah was great mate! Nice relaxing trip with the family 👌👌
How deep are you at that beacon Sammy?
Between 15-23m mate
It wouldn’t hurt to have dire straits in the background? Just a thought.
It would be awesome if i could do it without getting copyrighted!
Bloody hell are u two brothers lol
My ginger brother 😂
Hahah yep I have a few brothers getting around 🤣🤣
Nothing like sharing a pole with a mate
🤣🤣🤣 just good honest fun 💁♂️
spotted macs tnd to have a powdery texture in their flesh. we use them to make tasty fish cakes
Sounds good 🤤🤤
is this where nick fry went?
No idea sorry mate 🤷♂️
Block the Catherine troll 😈
She’s very annoying!
Knock the mackerel right behind head like tuna no more spraying blood around boat or slashing teeth trying to remove hooks
Yeah they make a bit of a mess those buggers!
@@SammyHitzkeFishing lol yea quick pop to head like a tuna they calm down a bit lol don't throw blood all over . Keep the videos coming sub from state side .
Hey Sammy try smoking the racks strip the meat and make fish cakes
Will have to give it a try 👌👌
You mustn’t have kids mate if you think them washing the boat is a good idea 😂😂😂
Hahah mine aren’t old enough for the job yet unfortunately 🤣
If their full of roe then that should be a closed season for them to breed sorry if it upsets people but we have to protect our fisheries for the future.
Mackerel have multiple spawning runs per year so that would be quite difficult to manage. One for fisheries I guess 👍
Great vid Sammy what time of year was this ? I’m heading up that way in march with a new boat and haven’t fished up there before and was wondering what are the main species to have a crack at ? Thanks @captainbazz2
Hey mate this was in November, in March we start getting the snapper and reefies fire up and also the Mackerel are on the chew then too 👌👌
