    Listen to your customers when designing internal fittings and make them as comfortable as the Inter City 125 Mk3 stock and you are on a winner. The old 222 Meridians should ideally be used on Liverpool to Norwich services this giving extra capacity.

    With the Class 222 Meridians that are to be replaced by the Class 810 Aurora. I do think that they should be transferred to South Western Railway to replace the Class 158 and Class 159 Sprinter Express.
    And the Class 180 Adelante to be cascaded to be used on the East-West Rail line or cascaded to Grand Central to join with the other Class 180 Adelantes.

    Why just 5 cars? That is way to short for a intercity train! Should be at least 9 cars, like on the ECML.

    • @class43tom
      @class43tom 2 года назад +4

      Platform lengths. Long Eaton cannot accommodate 9 car train lengths. By building 5 car units, short sets can serve smaller platforms, or two 5 car units can be coupled, for example on fast Sheffield services, where platforms that major stations can accommodate. We see this currently with the meridian fleet, occasionally running with 2 class 222s or 180s, coupled together.

    • @geraiswaiya2347
      @geraiswaiya2347 2 года назад +2

      My thoughts exactly
      And EMR ran 7 car sets, only 2 shorter. If the short platform stops were reserved for the 4/ 5 car trains, why stop the 9 + car sets there?
      Edit - and seems they ran 2 + 8 HSTs... seems strange to go straight to a single 5 car set fleet when they have the experience of running a very diverse fleet.

    I wonder? What an opportunity to use the Meridians (once or if EMR keep them) to replace the knackered 156 units nearing 38 years old. Could use the Meridians as a x2 x3 or x4 car set. The 222s are unsuitable for working stopping services, especially when other routes are more in need of them. ERMTS is the new European safety system. It lets you use the track way more efficiently by having the trains communicate with each other. So trains can drive closer to each other. It also keeps way better track of the trains for both management and passengers. TPWS and AWS are old fashioned systems not made for the 21st century
