I have a client who wants me to use a slider to display his portfolio page. I was hesitant to display his portfolio that way. You just saved me time researching for a good one. One that is blockified is good.
Thanks so much. I've just been learning how to use blocks so this is great. I have a client who wants to show how many companies she has worked for and we created a slider for the company logos. Of course, it's hard to take logos from various sources and display them all the same size. And secondly, logos come in both major aspect ratios so we'll see what happens but I'm game to try it. Thanks again.
Conversion specialist started the whole "sliders-are-bad" conversation tong time ago, in the period where desktop visitors overrule the mobile visitors. That is switched and in some cases a slider is even better for conversion. Especially when the audience is between 15 - 30 range, those mobile users rather swipe then scrol. And swiping can even get you a new partner in life :-) , so yes: we must rething the sliders opnions.
Have you a demo site to point at, please ... and what about speed? I guess sliding is JS dependent and how does the plugin behave in absence of JS (e.g. if JS load is delayed and the slider sits above the fold)? As I said, the easiest to answer this would be to have a look at a demo page.
I like using sliders for my woo commerce website, It just adds an appeal to the page. In fact I was looking for a slider plugin that is better than the one I am using currently and just glad to see your video as always. Now I'm going to try this new plugin Immediately. Thank you for helping us build websites easily ❤
Congratulations Jamie on your series of videos. Always polished, informative and just the right length. As for Sliders, I don’t subscribe to the non slider brigade. They do have their place and can add interest to the visitor experience.
well done man, and thanks! (saved me a few hours of research, and from someone who has been a UI/UX designer for 20+ years, tell anyone who tells you that you shouldn't use sliders, to just go back and watch your video again, cause you what you've said is exactly right!)
I'll be grabbing this slider if the need arises in the future. I really like that simple breakpoint setting where you can choose to have one slide in view on mobile devices. I sent a link to that "should i use a carousel?" website to a client a couple of years ago and it convinced her not to use a carousel on her online store home page. But a couple of years later she asked me to add one and I admit it is useful and highlights things she wants to draw attention to at any given time such as new season's garments or sales etc. She currently has a video in one slide that features a shoot of her current range of garments for the season and that works really well too. A very important consideration is ease of updating for the client and this plugin does look user friendly which is another plus. Thanks for the video, clearly presented and concise so it's much appreciated.
I like sliders and use them where and when appropriate. I used to use a slider at the beginning of a home page or a product page, usually with lots of big images. Google doesn't seem to like that, and I have learned to use a slider with smaller images further down a page. Google seems to respect that more. It is an effective way to integrate images that help tell a story.
I just had the idea of adding a carousel to display sponsor logos on a page for an upcoming convention event, and now I don't have to go look for one! Thank you so much for this recommendation.
I also love this slider - it's simple, easy to use - even on mobile - and free. The most important issue that sliders can solve is information overload. It make sense to only show a few things at a time and reveal more only after interacting. However, many people are overdoing it, which then can lead into the exact opposite: Flashing images everywhere, text that you are about to read disappears automatically, breaking scrolling behaviors and so on. And then there is also accessibility. I still wish there was a slider block in core though.
I'm of two minds... It's definitely cool functionality but the little I've read about sliders seems to indicate that people don't generally take the time to look at the different slides (even ones that have auto-play). I've just taken the approach that if I need to use a slider, the info on slides that are hidden on initial view also needs to be visible somewhere else on the page.
Yup it’s all about the use case for me . I’ve definitely bought holidays after using them on airbnb and products on Amazon. But they can definitely be misused.
So - for the posts carousel: How does that work? I figure that you have to add a query block to each and every slide; in the display settings of the query block you have to set "items per page" to 1 and then adjust the offset for each item (0 for first slide, 1 for second slide, and so on). Sounds a little cumbersome. The bigger problem is imho that for every slide the same post query (but with another limit and offset) is run again and again: for a slider with 10 slides 10 times and for a slider with x slides x times.
Hello Jamie, thank you for the video, just lately started to work on a website slider based and i tested this one, which was really cool. the only issue now is that i need to modify the design for what i want to do, anyidea how to do it? or maybe you make another video of how to do it? thank you, pleasure to have you around the net.
A problem with this plugin, and many other carousels, is that they are not accessible. They are a challenge to navigate with a keyboard and/or a screen reader. That is a big reason I have been not using carousels/sliders on new sites and removing them from old sites.
I need something like this, but for some reason the setting panel doesnt display. I can only add slides with the + button. I tested in different browsers and I have the correct wp/php versions.
@Jamie Marsland thanks a lot for all your great videos. Would be nice if you can go a little bit more in detail about how to use the query loop. I only geht all my posts one after another inside one slide. Doesn't even work for me to choose one specific post for one slide
Anyone going to read the Yoast article, please keep in mind the date it was published. A lot of the popular research on Sliders from NN Group, Yoast, and Jared Smith are between 4 and 10 years old. Sliders can be accessible, usable and there's enough familiarity now that it is acceptable to use them if you follow best practices.
Would love to use it but strangely enough the instruction to click on (+) to add an image doesn't show, so while I can control the settings I can't literally add an image to the carousel. I've tried everything. I wonder if it's a browser issue. I'm using an old operating system admittedly... an old Mac from 2013 and OS 10.13. I wonder if there some graphics incompatibility.
I assume that it's not a "real" post carousel, right? As far as I see, you might use the query loop, but have to select one specific post for one slide. So it's not the case that you i.e. choose a taxonomy or tag and the plugin displays this posts inside the carousel. I'm I right or can anybody tell me how I can realise this goal with this plugin? Thanks a lot
@@jamiewp Ok, thanks, I got the offset and the filter thing now. But still I have to add a specific post slide by slide, right? I can't define a query and the plugin outputs the slides by itself for the filtered category as a carousel, like I can do it with the post sliders i.e. from essential blocks. I don't want to use essential blocks plugin 'cause it as one vulnarability after another and comes with ads and tons of stuff I don't need - but their post slider is what I'm looking for. @@shivatomix You can just let the query loop show the latest posts (and filter if needed) and use the offset for each slide (i'm assuming there will only be 4 or 5)
Very close to ideal but... I can't get rid of the margin around the carousel block itself and there is no fade in option. For the one site I need a slider I'll have to keep using Gutenslider for those two features.
The lightbox function doesn't work for me when I use the carousel slider plugin. Clicking an image does absolutely nothing. It does not pop up and show a bigger version of the image. There is no reaction at all on the site upon clicking an image embedded in the carousel.

Yes!!! We’ve been using this plugin almost since it came out. Perfect for block themes and soooooo flexible.

THAT IS A PERFECT IDEA for my site! It is an event site and I am trying to make it smaller!! Thank You.
I do use them.
Sometimes it’s the very best way to show pictures without taking too much space. Let people decide if they want to see them or not !
Exactly!
Great pick. Use the same plugin for the right use cases.
Love that it just brings the sliding and leaves the rest to the other blocks

Sliders are still good for testimonials on many types of websites but would mainly be appropriate on ecommerce or directory-style sites.
Very cool plug in info. Ty, Jamie.

informative as usual. can we use this plugin with Query Loop? so that we can display posts in slider
Thanks and yes, that's how i created the news slider.
Hi Jamie WP... any issue with twentytwentyfour theme? Thanks for answering.
Nope
Yoast did an article sometime ago about never using sliders.
Yup , but amazon and airbnb use them extensively - so they have their place for certain use cases.

Yup

👍
I have heard that carousels are out.
Check out the end of the video - i show some big ecommerce brands e.g amazon and airbnb that use them to great effect
