    • Total was 18.4 miles (the 0.3 difference was from me scouting the established bus lake campsite)
    • You should be able to put the new insoles over the old ones as long as it doesn’t squish your foot too much in the shoe.
    • Towel is also important for use with the sawyer filter to prevent contamination, though could probably use the scarf - also useful in case things get wet w/ rain or stream crossings
    • The rubber tips for trekking poles are required in some historic sites like Macchu Picchu, but not most of the places we will go. They also give more grip on rock/slate surfaces instead of loam.
    • Can also wash in the lake using unfiltered water - if it had been a bit warmer, probably would have waded in!
    • “I can’t” to “I haven’t before” - love it!
    • Again, could have washed in bus lake, would have been a good day for it with the early stop :P (I’ve also made a note to myself to make more time for basics like hygiene and stretching)
    • Bug spray - to clarify, I do use deet and had some as a backup in case of really bad bugs, but prefer deet-free and physical barriers (clothes, bug net) for sure.
    • You did really great with the fire both nights we could have one!
    • I think bringing your water bladder could have been good, in addition to your water bottles, to be able to carry a more appropriate amount of water for you to stay hydrated (especially if you generally pee more than 1x/day). However, part of that was due to the 2nd day being very long and not ending near water.
    • Jacob is the one who said oreos are a trash cookie XD
    • I think we ended up ok on food amount overall - if you are food insecure about not having enough it can really psychologically weigh on you more than the actual food weight saved. Make note of the meals you prepared too much of, though (mac & cheese, oatmeal for breakfast), and make smaller portions next time!
    • I’m so proud of you for finishing the trail! You did awesome

I used to live near to the Ice Age Trail and would hike portions of it! Since we moved west, I spend most of my time hiking in the mountains but will always have a special place in my heart for the forests of Wisconsin.

Wow, right on! Do you have a favorite segment or any tips? I am hoping to one day have trekked the entire ice age trail!

@@vonstervlog8972 I always wanted to do the whole trail, but never got around to it. Maybe someday. I mainly stuck to the sections northwest of the Wausau area because they were closest to home. My best advice would be to do whatever you can to keep your feet dry (happy feet make for happy hiking), I sometimes used moleskin to help protect against blisters, and to go in the fall when the leaves change is particularly beautiful as is cross-coutry skiing during the winter months (my favorite time to go). Plus in the winter there are no bugs. Just be sure to bundle up.

I love camping and hiking. But with health issues, It would be hard. I love your hats. Tampons are wonderful 1st aid for bloody noses. Always good to bring more than enough food in case of emergency. Since you know about your feet, get (example) bunion pads or something to protect parts of your foot pads. Your so fun, I love how you smell your stuff. Especially the soap. Lol. Thank you for sharing 😊

Thanks for sharing your backpacking gear. I find it much easier for me to set up a base camp and then day hike with a much lighter load. Getting to old to lug all the “essentials” everywhere I roam. Lol ✌️

You might try Silk socks (Liners). They wick the moisture away into the outer wool sock to keep your feet dryer & no to less blisters. It's what I always wore when I used to backpack years &years ago. :-)

I'm curious to know if you feel the walks you started taking a month before the trip helped you. Did you feel like you did enough? Should have walked more? Should have started 2 months prior? Should have done less?
Thank you for sharing your adventures!
