Without the laugh track, you probably wouldn't get the jokes, or perhaps you wouldn't find them funny. The laugh track triggers a conformation response for most people, so they will laugh along with the track. You may have had times where you laughed your ass off at something with your friends, but looking back, the source of the humour barely even made you smile. That is because "laughter is contagious". Sometimes even without realising it, simply hearing the track might subconsciously make you remember that moment as a funny one, regardless of whether you laughed along with it. Your memories will remember it being funnier than it actually was. It's a pretty sneaky move, and people have become increasingly aware of it and are put off by it. That's why it's not that common anymore.

I think you are forgetting what a good actor Laurie is. As are a lot of other comedians. Most of them just never get a chance to prove it. Laurie only did by accident (Bryan Singer, producer of House, didn't know who he was when he reviewed Laurie's audition).

I’ve seen the entire 4 series of blackadder plus the comic relief and other separate films and sketches about 60 times through, But have only seen this episode twice... How’s this possible?
In his memoirs Tony Robinson said that Rowan became a pinup overnight with that Blackadder…he wasn’t pulling faces or acting goofy and it showed he was quite dashing if need be Ditto Rik Mayall…often played greasy unpleasant Virgin types, but as Lord Flasheart (especially the WW1 incarnation), Rik was actually very handsome
I just find it weird, though I grew up on these guys, I can only imagine the rest of the world just scratches their heads as to why 'House' and 'Mr Bean' are in a torture chamber

Comedy evolves and so does society. We agree on that, right? I'm assuming you don't lament the passing of black face as a comedy art. It's rare that comedy becomes timeless and classic. Black Adder is timeless and classic. There's nothing in there that is stale. So, there's no reason BBC wouldn't make something similar today.

Blackadder 2 is the best season, but Blackadder goes fourth has the best ending.
That's how I felt for a long time but I have come to appreciate the 3rd series as pretty much on par. Hugh Laurie is particularly brilliant there.
