My theory as to why the Bubonic Plant doesn't talk to us is because the Bubonic Plant we fight is only the image of the plant; the identity that was left behind once we defeat it. This is because Griefer (Brad) is still alive, and not like Cruel King. On the topic of the Cruel King, since he's dead, but consciously talking to us, we are likely fighting his shadow, who came to realize his dilemma. (Or, more preferably, the actual Cruel King.) That, or we're fighting our inner demons (which is less cooler.)
cruel king is clearly still alive but only inside of nirvana for some reason, his reaction to suddenly gaining consciousness is too surreal for it to be "just temporary", I think he just lives in nirvana now.
