They should be checking bottles. especially for Martini's.I can personally tell you "Rosso Blanco" , the mix for martini's, is one of the fruit flies favorite liqueurs. Owners are just cheap and did not go through bottles to dump infected liquors. Simple as that.

Samy doesn't strike me as someone too keenly focused on details, so it's easy to see how he might have missed them - plus, he's old, and doesn't wear glasses, and the insects are small - so the flies in the drink are 100% plausible, thus your "bullshit detector" is worthless - get a refund on that a.s.a.p. if you still have the receipt.

I leave the coffee creamer out with lid open from 5am to 12pm. I often find small flys in it if I open the doors a lot or have the house opened up. Always think its coffee grounds but coffee grounds dont have wings. Neither do lemons bits.

They will take a chance on the marginal food for the chance of seeing Amy or Samy in action abusing a server or customer, maybe even themselves! That will draw some people who love being abused or watching abuse. As for myself, I wouldn't touch that joint with a thousand foot pole.
