Things I love about this channel: Martijn is a master of cinematic perspectives, framing shots, great pics, fade outs, colours… the watch, nature, sounds, embracing culture, the bells, the wolf on the full moon, the visitors, views, weather, hikes, walks, cooking, bread, his creative style, maintaining the integrity of building, etc etc I love Johannes too. As an atheist I can see religions pure intent in his kindness & humanity. I would love to sit around the fire & muse philosophically with them. Martijn reminds me so much of my Dad. From speaking only when necessary, to polishing his boots, being well dressed every day, and that unshakable work ethic. Its been a privilege to watch your journey thus far. Thank you for your ceaseless efforts and choosing to share this with us.
I cant stop watching these videos. This man wears a collared shirt to hike, treats bread with the lightest touch, knows what to do with a quince and oh ya, can build a crane. I may be in love by the time the house is built. 😂. Thank you for making these.

We all love and sometimes need solitude in our lives. It helps us think and it can help us to be better people. But there are occasions, like this one, when our "community" of friends and neighbors gather with us to help us manage and lift the heavy stones in our lives. This was a brilliant example of how seemingly impossible work becomes more manageable and even possible. Somethings we cannot do ourselves. Hearing the laughter and pure joy of doing difficult work makes the hard work a wonderful memory that will last a lifetime. Watching Martijn's great adventure has somehow become "our" great adventure as well. I have watched you since the first week and I hope to watch you to the end. The filming is brilliant, and the stories are an amazing joy to follow, and you continue to be an inspiration. "Every day for the past week I thought: This must be the most beautiful Day. But I was wrong. It was today."
Martji, My husband & I have watched all of your renovation projects probably 6 times or more. With each one we learn something new. We're in our 70's & only wish we could do what you are doing. We love the outdoors but our health is not good. You videos take us to where we can't go. Thank you so much for sharing all the way from Springville, Alabama. God be with you.
In a world filled with turmoil, my heart swelled upon seeing such warm camaraderie. I wish men, hands, people could come together like this is the wider world. Thank you for the free art you provide Martijn, another precious glimpse into your world.
I feel just as you do. Martijn, himself has so much to share with people in today's world, especially the younger generations. He emits a peace, humility, connection with nature, simple way of living that needs to be grabbed and lived in this world. A better world we would have. People would be living, not existing.
You make an interesting and valid point - but do you think that the problems we are experiencing (and it would appear increasingly) are because our 21st century lifestyles do not necessitate our undertaking such projects? Once, the work Martijn is doing was normal with the addition of needing to grow sufficient crops or keep sufficient livestock in order to sell in order to be able to afford supplies and services. No doubt neighbours, friends and family came together to help build a new home, sow a field or harvest a crop. In today's society we no longer need to undertake any manual endeavour and we can exist in total isolation whilst surrounded by millions of strangers. Although I have no desire to go back to to an era without many of our modern appliances, it would be lovely if we could get together with neighbours and friends to seed a new lawn, plant a couple of trees, paint a deck etc.
Martijn, I think you live inside of a postcard, the view is spectacular . The pride in which you looked at the roof is palpable. Cant wait to see it completed. It was lovely to see all of your friends turn up to help, they are gems.

Giorgio Maestro...Beautiful to see people work as a team! When i'm listening Italians speaking, i feel so good even if i don't understand. Wonderful language and beautiful people Italians.
This one had a little bit of everything....clearing the road, searching for the owl, making jam, falling leaves, gift of knives and the fun of helpful friends. Thank you.
Martin, I've enjoyed your videos from the start, thank you for sharing your journey with all of us. It should be noted that although Martin did not say they were made in Japan, but made of Japanese steel, Kamikoto knives are made in CHINA. From Kamikoto's website, “Kamikoto’s blades are handmade by a select group of experienced craftsmen in Yanjiang, China.” Kamikoto is notorious for marketing their knives as Japanese and made in Japan, but are in fact Chinese made. Cheers!
Kamikoto knives are basically a scam, same as many other "fake" Japanese knives they send to famous bloggers for free. Also, check out some bots in the comments replying where knives were mentioned. They use Martins' photo as their userpic, and that says everyting about their authenticity :-)
One of the many beautiful things about this channel and a project like this is the sense of community it brings together. Both online and in person. Congrats on starting your roof.
I've been followed this too and I'm feeling you will be surprised at the feelings you will have living in this beautiful construction, commensurate with the effort and commitment you put into it. I believe it will be like like living in a big hug.A it romanticized I know but these are the words that come to me. Imagine the smiles and pride on the faces that also contributed.
"Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean." - Ryunosuke Satoro It's great to have the helping hands and laughter of friends. Well Done this year, my friend, the progress has been amazing!
Really exciting to see a cooperative work, a work in good neighborhood, in the old way, when all the neighbors helped the new families to build their houses and everything benefited the community. That spirit is missing today. I always think that even material things carry the imprint of the soul that was put into them and that house will forever carry the soul of the people who helped you. So be it.
This is such a great video. Seeing these men come together and just make things happen, laughing and enjoying their time together, is a great thing to watch!
I can't explain why, but it makes me teary watching all of these people working together to make this happen with you. As so many comments on this channel reiterate, you've built an incredible community, around you and across the world.
Watching from Unalaska/Dutch Harbor, Alaska. I anticipate watching how it is all going. You are doing a great job keeping a part of history alive and keeping the old ways before it is all lost. Like your brick you got in the beginning, you are a part of the history of the property now. Thank you for sharing your journey in making a new chapter for the future to see and experience!
I've never been really interested in Social Media but every once and a while something comes along which makes the whole thing worthwhile. There is poetry in the way of filming, really a high level of storytelling and an estheticism appreciated. Bravo and continue to make us happy and dreaming
Que bello ascoltare la gente scerzare e comunicare fra di loro come nei tempi passati. Buon lavoro con le piedre.Sei molto fortunato....tutto sara pronto prima la nevicata.
As one human to another I’m so proud of you at the work you’ve accomplished with grace and passion. In the end the roof will appear almost the same as when you arrived but the change to those who know is drastic.
Hi Martijn, I have an idea how you can have warm water in the cabin in the future. There are wood-fired ovens/fire-places who has in the sides a kind of water-tank (in Germany we call them "wasserführende Kaminofen". With this you can heat the air in the cabin and you also have hot water for showering. Greetings from a german, living and constructing in Costa Rica.
From the very first video until now Martijn has gotten better and better at picking his shots, his zooming in and out, and the panorama's both from his camera and the drone...just outstanding...And the thing is, his video's were already very good from the beginning. I look forward every week to these...It's like the week is not complete without my Martijn Doolaard video fix.
Well, you made real progress on the roof! I remember that crane you made. It turns out those big stones just "walk" right up the ramp. It's great that you have so many helping hands and brains! The roof is going to look fantastic.
I wonder if the crane will be used on the other roof facet, which is higher off the ground. It may be difficult to walk the stones around the building on the scaffold. For sure, the scaffold clutter will have to be cleaned first! So much time and engineering design went into the crane construction to not use it, but Martyn may have found a better solution: numerous friendly helpers.
That was the fastest 28 minutes! Amazing progress and thank goodness for your friends who came to share the labour. Thank you for letting us come along.
So happy to see how the roofs will be laid correctly. It is good that you have an expert who will guide your team to do it correctly. You are such a good man to have many friends to share a helpjng hands.
Martijn, I'm so glad to see all the lovely gents helping you. Having fun while doing heavy and also pretty technical work. The collaboration is a joy to see.
Martijn this channel has become my go to RUclips Channel by far! I wait for the next episode to come out! It’s funny, I am a very happy 52 year old happily married man with two kids in college. We are a pretty conservative family in the middle class living in the US. I literally live my adventuresome side of life thru you and this channel. I truly admire what you are doing. I love your appreciation of the simple things in life. Natures beauty. Simple pleasure of homemade bread. Stacking of firewood. Enjoying fresh foods from neighbors. And the accomplishments of the entire building/renovation project, even if those accomplishments may seem so little at the time. Yes the video aspect is amazing and the story telling is way above what you find on a typical RUclips channel. Stay humble and stay true to you as a person. God Bless and continued success!
That roof will be very rustic and a work of art. You must be very grateful for all the skilled help. The tattoo on your finger is a Palmetto Tree. It is very important to my state of South Carolina in the US. It is our state tree and on our flag. The forts on the coastline of SC were made of them and when fighting the British for our independence helped us win the war. The wood is so soft it absorbed the cannon balls.
I like all these men. They are strong, yet gentle, cooperative, inventive, mindful, can laugh.....Nothing like the bearded ones, in glitter dresses, make up, heels and singing in high voices!
Wow Martijn, never expected another video after the epic video from a couple of days ago. You got a lot of stones on the roof well done to you and your helpers.
THE CRANE? I have been waiting for months to see the crane in action. Actually, the team approach is way better. Loving every moment of this adventure.
Getting one roof done before the winter arrives will be an enormous achievement. And offers up the potential of undertaking the other roof next year. Fantastic.
For a great fire starter, I use melted candle wax on cotton wool balls also Iv used Vaseline on them they both easily set on fire and burn for a good while.
The misty mountains and the autumn colours are very beautiful today, and it makes me so happy to watch. I felt quite emotional to see the stones back on the roof and your stone wall all looking so good.
You’ve reached a momentous milestone Martijn: the first stones on your new roof. Such a lot of work to get to this point. A truly incredible achievement in 1 year! Congratulations and best wishes from Australia. 👏🏻🦘🌺🌴
Toch wel mooi dat je zo allles bijna zelfstandig voormekaar gedaan krijgt. En dan volledig negeert wat er in de rest van de wereld gebeurd. Is toch mooi leven dacht ik zo.
How beautiful is that!!! Gorgeous fall show of color, and the roof stones are going on. Martijn, do you know how blessed you are to have your life in such a position that you are able to live your dream? Congratulations! Love from Oregon.
Awesome episode. You know what? The visual is puenomenal, as usual, with the additional bonus of the fall leaves, but the score, the musical theme that Martin puts on became better and better through the latest episodes. Melancholic, yet, owe inspiring. Beautiful videomaking
I don't know how you made everyday sounds of working in your opening and closing segments so distinctly audible while you incorporated background music, but the effect is captivating.
It's a lot of hard work, but you guys are having so much fun! The teamwork, company, and Martijn's hospitality make it enjoyable. Congrats on the progress.
What a thoughtful house warming gift to receive. These high quality kamikot knifes will last you a lifetime. Like everyone here, we wait in anticipation for the day you move into your home. Every inch of it has been restored with loving precision. Irish blessings to you Martijn 🍀🎃🍀
Yet another joyful time with you all as you work really hard together to cover the roof for wintertime! I’m learning so much about tried an trusted methods of roofing which still work today. Roofing on top of the world, exciting! Thank you so much to you all 😅

This one had a little bit of everything....clearing the road, searching for the owl, making jam, falling leaves, gift of knives and the fun of helpful friends. Thank you.
In fall I come across quinces in the market. I just keep them in a beautiful bowl and it perfumes the air like poetry.
@@renukasatchithananthan7302 "Perfumes the air like poetry"...💫Beautiful💫...that is poetic essence itself ❣️
Cheers!
And that the standard of metal is the same as 3$ knives.
What a beautiful roof, and I get so touched when I see how many people who will give you a helping hand.
One of the only shows I absolutely love on You Tube. A template for many.
So be it.
Big cheers for the helpers it’s nice to see that people want to help each other.
How incredibly satisfying this was to watch!
This is such a great video. Seeing these men come together and just make things happen, laughing and enjoying their time together, is a great thing to watch!
what an unexpected treat 3 days after epic 3h long video
I can't explain why, but it makes me teary watching all of these people working together to make this happen with you. As so many comments on this channel reiterate, you've built an incredible community, around you and across the world.
A 3 hour special AND a normal vid? Nice work
These videos are quite possibly the best content on youtube, thanks for sharing, and good work guys!
Ah,your from the home of DEADLIEST CATCH,love that show 👍🏻
I love your videos very calming to me
You're watching a Dutchman from Dutch harbour. That's just great.
I've never been really interested in Social Media but every once and a while something comes along which makes the whole thing worthwhile. It is such a pleasure sitting down with a coffee and watching each episode and I find myself counting the days until the next one comes along. Well done Martijn please keep it up.

For me this was the most beautiful episode! It was so wonderful to see all these guys and girls from different countries with different languages work together and having fun! ☺️
The sheer joy on Martijn’s face. Such a moment.
I praise God for the beautiful creation and the blessing and joys we experience in this short life with the hope of eternity there after.
Yes, He from Whom all blessings flow.
There is poetry in the way of filming, really a high level of storytelling and an estheticism appreciated. Bravo and continue to make us happy and dreaming
After having watched the first year video to this one, what an amazing accomplishment gained by lots of hard work!

Beautiful Work , and World of Creation ...
Beautiful Nature... THANKS FOR TO SHARE
MARTIJN D.
The roof is already looking spectacular Martijn...I love how your friends are all in with helping you...happily and eagerly.
The roof will look much better very skilled me on the job hence not having enough stones to complete.
Hi Martijn,
I have an idea how you can have warm water in the cabin in the future. There are wood-fired ovens/fire-places who has in the sides a kind of water-tank (in Germany we call them "wasserführende Kaminofen". With this you can heat the air in the cabin and you also have hot water for showering.
Greetings from a german, living and constructing in Costa Rica.
Oh, my Martijn - those opening scenes - the colors, the shading. Breathtaking. Thank you for your video, once again.
Love the cat.😼
From the very first video until now Martijn has gotten better and better at picking his shots, his zooming in and out, and the panorama's both from his camera and the drone...just outstanding...And the thing is, his video's were already very good from the beginning. I look forward every week to these...It's like the week is not complete without my Martijn Doolaard video fix.
Forget Game of Thrones, I am addicted to Martijn's glorious videos.
Yes. It’s a wonderful experience to watch this!
They dance up the ramp. Like gingerbread people.
That was the fastest 28 minutes! Amazing progress and thank goodness for your friends who came to share the labour. Thank you for letting us come along.
Ah man, Martijn!! I wasn't expecting this! What a treat. Hold up a second while I finish frying these eggs.
🤣 Same!! ...while I finish cooking the pasta...Didn't think we were getting another video..this week! 🙌

I did not expect episode 41 this morn after a 3 hrs long video on Friday night. Thank you & Blessings to you Martijn 🙏
Ah, Italians speaking loudly and all at the same time! Haven't heard them in a while. Miss that. And those knives, I envy you for having them!
Interesting story.
Martijn is the definition of 'methodical'... what a lesson i learn in every episode.
This video is more relaxed for me the best
Getting one roof done before the winter arrives will be an enormous achievement. And offers up the potential of undertaking the other roof next year. Fantastic.
Rain, sleet, or snow. He’s never sick and always working. Excellent immune system.
I love the mournful call of owls in the night.

Is there anything this awesome man cannot do? I'm beyond impressed. Absolutely a gem of RUclips channel!
You’ve reached a momentous milestone Martijn: the first stones on your new roof. Such a lot of work to get to this point. A truly incredible achievement in 1 year! Congratulations and best wishes from Australia. 👏🏻🦘🌺🌴
Loved listening in as you all stood around on the scaffold and laughed and talked. It's good to see the camaraderie and neighborly spirit.
Hi from Eugene!
Would love to have Johannes as a neighbour. He has such a light spirit about him.
Awesome episode. You know what? The visual is puenomenal, as usual, with the additional bonus of the fall leaves, but the score, the musical theme that Martin puts on became better and better through the latest episodes. Melancholic, yet, owe inspiring. Beautiful videomaking
Still the best thing on the internet. Nothing beats cameraderie.
It’s coming together nicely. What a great group of people have gathered to help with the roof. I can’t wait to see it finished.
Good luck and God Bless you all.
I don't know how you made everyday sounds of working in your opening and closing segments so distinctly audible while you incorporated background music, but the effect is captivating.
Martijn je doet me een deugt. Zo fijn om in alle rust jou vooruitgang te zien. Mooi man.
Autumn is beautiful up there in the mountains 🍁
As a retired bricklayer, I was glad you put stone and cement between the rafters. Love the friendly workers.
What a life, this is amazing. I wait for your videos every week!
This is now in my top 5 channels. It does things to my heart & soul. Thank you!
I’m with you!! My kind of peace! See you next week!!!

7:48 That transition was amazing. That's the kind of details that a true artist can think of.
Wow! Builder, carpenter, plumber, welder, roofer, trekker, cook, you tuber. You really are the perfect example of a renaissance man! If you're also a painter or sculptor I may just faint!
