Good shooting! At my NRA instructor course which had about 22 folks from your average joes, enthusiasts, competitive shooters to former and active military, law enforcement and private security professionals. Among all of them only 3 passed this qualification. It was an army vet, some random average joe and another with IDPA experience. Our whole class continued on anyways and all got our NRA instructor certification. Hopefully this was eye opening because the majority in my class believed they could shoot this in a heart beat. This was not easy but not difficult either so definitely get some reps in before trying. Also the pressure to perform is different when you actually have to shoot in front of the NRA counselor too. I was luckily that random average joe among the 3 that passed this.
Congratulations to you as well! (You’re not an average Joe with respect to your shooting!😊) Our training counselor made everyone qualify eventually, although I was not privy to it. I assume it was done. I think I noted in my video that most of my class that failed were law-enforcement officers! Thanks for watching! Take care!
Thank you for posting, I'm meeting 4 NRA master counselors on the 23rd for some shooting prior to taking the course, I think I can hold my own with a sidearm but I've never shot with Master shooters, hopefully I don't embarrass myself and get through the course ok. Thanks again.
So it’s no time limit and you can use any pistol setup you want? Like could I use a red dot? I don’t think I would have any trouble with this even with my 3” guns, but I’ll give it a try. A red dot would be a cake walk though. I’m more curious to see how fast I could do it.
For an untimed shoot, it shouldn't be difficult to make 16+ in a 6" circle at 15 yds. I will admit that prior to getting quality instruction I would have struggled to do this consistently, but now it's a minimum standard. I have successfully shot the FBI qualification, and am working on the SEAL Team 6 qual.
I agree. I don't consider myself to be a great shot...but if you give me the time and after a bit of a warm-up, even an "average shot" like me can qualify...IF this is all it takes.
I accept. I think I can get most of this done this following week. I do have a digital video camera to record the process. If I cannot successfully post here, I shall in any event post the results on my blog. For anyone interested, "OldManMontgomery.wordpress.com" Sounds like fun!
I've read mixed information... that you can qualify with any pistol (including a .22LR), or that you have to use a "service" caliber (9, 40, 45, 38, 357, etc). What is it?
Unless it's changed, instructor qualification requires .38 or 9mm minimum. The Winchester NRA Qualification, which has nothing to do with instructor quals, can be done with a .22.
Where are the other parts? This says "Part 1". I wanna give it a try. I average 83% on an 8" plate, at 25 yards, so I should be able to pass this pretty easy, I'm guessing. Edit: Never mind, bro. I found it online. The other 2 parts are gun handling, and malfunction procedures.
remember the fundamentals: stance, grip, sight picture, trigger control. Of those, squeeze that trigger and let it surprise you. You must eliminate anticipation of recoil. Hope you do well.
@@christophergullett6322 over-gripping. Either your support hand pulling the gun or firing hand fingers are squeezing the fuck out of the gun. Do you shoot iso or weaver?
@@christophergullett6322 Also consider using snap caps or dummy rounds in your magazine. Taking the NRA instructor course next month. My groupings got better after training with a mixture of dummy rounds and live rounds in a magazine. Good luck!
DoubleTapShooter the law enforcement division instructor course is a full 5 days...1,000 rounds and the qualification course is 100%on target or you fail...not allowed anything outside the scoring area...and you get two chances to qualify...or you fail
djoliver I am an NRA Training counselor... I have had students no be able to pass the qualification numerous times. Lots of them are people who are excellent shots u til you put them in a qualification course with others watching..they let that stress get to them and fail for either not following instructions, safety violations, or or not being able to get the required grouping, etc.. There is more to getting your instructor cert than just shooting. You have to have the proper attitude, knowledge, and yes gun handling skills.

Love the closing slide for your video! :D
Thanks for watching. These days, watch your six!

Yup.... drop magazine after magazine from a .45 into a 6" circle all day long... takes practice but certainly more then doable.

We had to use our carry gun with iron sights.

But can you fux with the Seal Team 2 qual?
I'm taking my class in 2 weeks. I'm gonna need some range time.
How did the class go?

It's changed. Any caliber, any sights or optics are allowed.
Cool, that's cake.
You use any caliber (.22 or better) with sights, but no optics.
It's not as easy as most think.
9mm no 22 allowed intake my qual in 2 weeks
Did you ever figure out why your group was at 1 oclock??
Yes, my eyes. I have double vision because of cataracts. Actually having surgery next month, finally. 😊

What gun did you use at 25 yards? Barrel length, sights? Just curious.
any advice you can give me? I'm taking this class next month and I have my xdm 5.25 9mm and my new sig x five 9mm that I'm going to use.

farleyjj1 thanks for the info and response.
farleyjj1 ttigger anticipation is my enemy. My grouping is good. Im left handed, and everything goes to the right. Any ideas?

is this the NRA pistol course or the NRA Law enforcement division pistol course?
DoubleTapShooter
NRA pistol instructor course. (The 7 LEOs in my class did not qualify on first try!)
DoubleTapShooter the law enforcement division instructor course is a full 5 days...1,000 rounds and the qualification course is 100%on target or you fail...not allowed anything outside the scoring area...and you get two chances to qualify...or you fail
I did it!
So, basically what you are saying is Stevie Wonder could become an NRA instructor with those requirements. An 8 year old could do this.

If that little bit of pressure is enough to make them not qualify, they might want to find another vocation.
