  • Many people seek to replace the paper filters that come with the AeroPress with a reusable metal filter- either as an environmentally friendly brewing change, or because they prefer the taste.
But out of the different aftermarket metal filters available, which should you buy? We took a look at a few options available online and gave our reviews - watch to see what we found!

I always welcome videos including the AeroPress which is my method. I’ve used a metal filter and I did find that the coffee with my paper filter gave a slightly a cleaner brew. Thanks. Timothy Marshall

I’ve been using an aero press since Xmas 2021 and have enjoyed the coffee it produces with paper filters using good quality ground coffee. However, I’ve never thought, (or researched) of inverting the press and adding the water in stages. I’ve just poured my water straight in to a required amount, waited three mins then pressed, stopping ‘at the hiss.’ Looking forward to experimenting. I came here off the back of wondering if a permanent filter existed. Interesting results. New sub here mate. Many thanks and take care. 👍🏻

Great review. Thanks for posting. I expected the metal to have a fuller body compared to paper.

The problem with paper is that it doesn't let the coffee oils thru similar to how a French press works as well.
Surprised they use paper in competitions.

I’ve had an aeropress for maybe 15 years and an Able metal filter for nearly 10 yrs. I quit using the metal filter because of the fine grounds that got through. I prefer using the inverted method for more control by not allowing the drip through. I decided recently to try a paper filter under the metal filter with the AP in the upright position. Bingo! Almost no drip through. I can make more coffee at a time because the upright position holds more water. I can stir to the bottom against the metal filter with a chop stick(misplaced my original AP stirrer). The paper filter is not very dirty and easily rinsed off and reused.

Great video. I just bought the koffi mesh filter but sadly I have to wait 2 weeks for it to arrive here in the U.S. from the U.K.

Thanks. The sediment is always a deal breaker for me.

In the future it would be cool to label the cups in post so we can see which cup is with which filter

Hi! I know this is an old video but I am looking to get a metal filter but has some reservations, mainly around emptying the areopress out after the coffee is pressed. Does the metal filter remain in the black cap or does it tend to fall out with the grounds?! Not sure I fancy digging around my food waste box for the metal filter! Thank you ☺

It stays on the grounds but you can pull it off easily before pushing the grounds out

who cares about the packaging? I just wanted to see which company has the best brew. you didn't even try the aeropress company version so the comparisons are not complete.

Interesting video - I searched through Amazon looking at the permanent filters. Most of the reviewers seemed to favour the inverted method. Is there a permanent filter that works well with the traditional brewing method?

Compost your paper filters and buy hemp paper when possible. 1-use paper can be sustainable. Hemp plastic works just as well as petroleum and it’s got no bpas or anything like that, plus it’s 100% biodegradable no microplastics as a byproduct, just as an aside for the plastic packaging (and cardboard/paper boxes) that could be. Sigh.

I could care less about sustainable filters when the box the papers come in from Amazon is 1000 larger

What about cleaning the metal filters? just rinse?

Hahaha noooo. Good luck ever cleaning the Able Disk "Fine" through any normal human kitchen-ready methods. It's a nightmare, it quickly becomes unusable with all the plugged holes.

Unfortunately in your paper vs metal argument, paper is sustainable and compostable, metal is reusable but more intensive to produce from a non sustainable source...

I caught that too. He just repeats the Green Cult talking points without thinking, like most people. If paper was not sustainable, we would have run out of paper and wood a long long time ago.

Really, packing...I do not care about those details....I care more about the filter information.... mesh vs stainless, how exactly do you reuse a paper filter?

Hey Einstein! How much damage to the environment is done by making a metal filter?

Supposedly the metal filters let the oil through. Paper does not. From reviews i saw on Amazon, the mesh does not last.

Plastic is reusable and recyclable. Nothing bad with plastics in packaging.

    • @d0nj03
      @d0nj03 6 месяцев назад

Recyclable at great energy cost and diminishing purity and quality, which works only a few times, after which it ends up in the same place - degrading naturally extremely slowly and being a pollutant, potentially ending up in your body as microplastic and causing untold harms that are still being uncovered as studies continue.
