She delivered yet again with 2Eleven, Brandy’s body of work is legendary. Not to take anything away from Monica because After the Storm is a classic album. Please go listen to Brandy’s catalog you’ll get a sense of who she is. Also let’s not forget to mention Brandy’s image was curated, Monica got to be herself. As artists I love them both PERIODT!

Brandy was more EXPERIMENTAL and alternative at times. Monica’s music was more urban and mature. They represent two different experiences of black women.

Actually if you look at all the albums Monica has 6 that are in the top 35 and Brandy has 5. Now, I love them both but I do think people tend to think just because Monica isn’t more visible that she isn’t as good or doesn’t sell as well.

Maybe cuz I’m really old school and can’t stand modern day music but I checked out her last 3 albums and were underwhelmed. Her first 4 albums are SUPERB though! I feel like Brandy is trying to find herself....she grew up with a strict (and maybe toxic) mother, who didn’t allow her figure out what she wanted for herself at a young age. I feel that’s why it was important for Brandy to fire her mother, so she could truly grow and find herself. If you consider the things people say they have an issue with Brandy about (I.e. lying about being married), her mother was the reason for that. It really takes time to unpack all of that childhood baggage ...I’m sure the journaling and poetry is all a part of her journey to self. Monica has been encouraged to express herself early on and that is why she is so confident in who she is.

Dineva is accurate. Brandy's star declined after the year 2000. She was not selling like she did in 1996 by 2005. It's okay to like an artist & acknowledge that only their core fan base still rode with them.

I don't know how people are confused about Brandy. She's been present on social medias and all even while not releasing music. She went on broadway and did her thing, talked about how she chose to gain weight because it felt good, she had some mental health concerns and breakdowns..which is all up and through the new album, which is amazing. But she never just vanished. idk maybe I'm just a fan. They're both amazing, though.. this battle was needed by so many of us.

I think when it comes to Monica she’s more urban , brandy on the other hand became more experimental and alternative with her material as she got older(which I love) but I understand why folk like dineva may not like it, the music industry is homogenized so anything that is out of the box sonically they won’t support and resist! It’s boils down to this do you wanna be an artist or a cash cow? We as black will only gravitate to traditional r&b or hip hop and sometimes we only follow radio lol...anything that sounds pushed to the next level we will not support and that’s a problem in my opinion.

It was a snoozefest and Monica came off uninterested but had all the energy behind the scenes. Brandy won off the strength she tried to get Monica to open up. In reality...if they were at the same school Brandy and Monica would've never been friends. I personally feel like the industry made it awkward because of the individuality of the ladies. I am a Black American living in Germany. Over here in Germany, to be honest, most people I've encountered in Germany don't really know who Brandy or Monica are or speak about them. They are BIG MUSIC STARS in the U.S. market. Of course they were played on R&B/black radio back in the 90s here in Germany, but that was the '90s, Brandy and Monica would emit a chin scratch if you mention their names here nowadays. You would have to say "The Boy Is Mine" to get people out here to maybe say, "OHHH YEAHHH." I can name other Black American artists who are well known here, but that's another topic.

I understand and agree with Brandy fashion looks wise but this comeback era for B7 I would say she knows who she is. There are a lot of factors that played into Brandy somewhat falling off and taking a huge career dive but she has always been around. Think about how weird the song Full Moon is and her latest music translates in the same vein. Brandy doesn't need Monica. Monica is her own soulful artist that sounds better than church. Considering brandy charted #3 in 2012 and Here in 2020 she’s charting #1, albums not singles. So while I hear what you’re saying, just because someone doesn’t listen or purchase, the real fans do. I get the not knowing who she is as an adult, because she seems to have become more private as time goes on. She has had some relevant singles out lately, the one with Daniel Cesar being the one that comes to mind. If you are a fan, I think you would follow and know that. I feel like Brandy is trying to find herself....she grew up with a strict (and maybe toxic) mother, who didn’t allow her figure out what she wanted for herself at a young age. I feel that’s why it was important for Brandy to fire her mother, so she could truly grow and find herself. If you consider the things people say they have an issue with Brandy about (I.e. lying about being married), her mother was the reason for that. It really takes time to unpack all of that childhood baggage ...I’m sure the journaling and poetry is all a part of her journey to self. Monica has been encouraged to express herself early on and that is why she is so confident in who she is.

I am a Black American living in Germany. Over here in Germany, to be honest, most people I've encountered in Germany don't really know who Brandy or Monica are or speak about them. They are BIG MUSIC STARS in the U.S. market. Of course they were played on R&B/black radio back in the 90s here in Germany, but that was the '90s, Brandy and Monica would emit a chin scratch if you mention their names here nowadays. You would have to say "The Boy Is Mine" to get people out here to maybe say, "OHHH YEAHHH." I can name other Black American artists who are well known here, but that's another topic.

I understand and agree with Brandy fashion looks wise but this comeback era for B7 I would say she knows who she is. There are a lot of factors that played into Brandy somewhat falling off and taking a huge career dive but she has always been around. Brandy can be singing, doing shows, acting, reality tv, broadway...whatever...she's gonna get a steady paycheck. To the general public Monica's music is easier to listen to and she has strictly stayed in her r&b lane but you can't say that she has necessarily had so much more success over Brandy in her adult years but I do agree when it comes to singles.

Most of us got the opportunity to fuck up and make real world mistakes while Brandy was being sheltered. That’s the difference between Brandy and Monica. He said he didn't know her as an adult because she lost some of her audience over the years, himself included and so he was no longer checking for her hence why he didn't know about her album or have an interest in her album even after hearing about it. His commentary was about the "battle" not a comparison of their current music, so i don't see the issue. I love Brandy and Monica. I feel like so many people want to pick sides, but they're so different which makes it easy to appreciate both of their contributions to true R&B music.
