This process can be faster if you heat the water than dissolve salt till it stops dissolving and then let it cool the salt is gonna precipitate out as it's concentration is gonna be too high as it cools
I remember making salt crystals when I was younger from a book about stones, and I remember using a pan. It was so disappointing because they were so small, but the book had another recipe using Epsom salts (I think). I ended up not using those, because I had to get the (I think) Epsom salt at the 'drugstore', but I was 9, and didn't know what a drugstore was, so I was too scared to ask my parents to take me there in case they thought that I wanted drugs 😭.
Hi everyone, I'm doing an experiment and need to know some things. Can you make shapes with the salt crystals out of wire? and do the crystals melt into their original form after? thanks
You can choose a shape from the completed dry salt that describes this video and tie it with a rope then put the small crystal in salt water just like this and wait weeks until it grows then remove it from the jar and paint it with clear nail polish so it doesn't shrink or melt
y'know if you just heat it the saturated water will expand and then there will be more space for mixing salt (do that) and then when the water cools the molecules will compress then the salt will compress so the salt will become crystals (this vid - 2 WEEKS! my way - 2 DAYS!
you're right lol adding more salt to the already saturated solution while heating the solution would make the solution be able to hold more solute (salt here) so yeah a super saturated solution :3 works better

I've been using store bought salt crystals to do weed control. I am wondering if salt crystals will also cause soft sugar sand in Florida to be more firm and stable for driving over?
No u have too put it in a warm please NOT ACTUAL WARM just lol like put it inside the oven DON’T TURN ON THE OVEN NOT EVEN BY MISTAKE I MADE IT, IT WORKS
You don't need a nail. You can start with a smaller salt crystal (i.e. a "seed crystal") and just tie the string to that. The new crystals will form onto it.
I don't know if salt crystals will dissolve if you leave them in the solution long enough (I'm thinking not) but once you take them out, they're salt, so yes they're water soluble.
Hello @user-tv6tu7qv1b Great to see you found this video and keen to give it a go. Great News, the experiment can be setup in minutes. Not so great news, the salt crystals in the video took months to get that big. If you setup the experiment now you might have some crystals starting to form by Sunday. Let us know how you go :) Happy Experimenting.
Yeh but where do you set the jar AS the crystals form. My son and I just did it yesterday and we have the jars sitting on the table do I need to put the jars somewhere else while the crystals form?
Well, this is under the science experiment category. You need to try this out to check any hypothesis existed so far. Try different combinations and different methods, different equipment and supplies. Make you observations at the end. That what the scientists need to do
The quantities don't matter. Just get any amount of water you want and boil it. Add salt to the boiling water and stir until dissolved. Keep adding salt and dissolving it. Eventually you're going to find that the salt you added won't dissolve in the water even if the water is boiling hot. It's because the water can no longer contain any more salt, it's totally saturated. This is the liquid you want to use to grow crystals. Hang a nail in it and wait for the magic.
If you use a seed crystal instead of a nail it should still be safe for use in food. Introducing metals into the solution for long periods of time can potentially make it unsafe to consume.

Maybe your solution wasn't saturated enough. It has to be so saturated with salt that the salt can't dissolve anymore, which this video said you have to do.
This process can be faster if you heat the water than dissolve salt till it stops dissolving and then let it cool the salt is gonna precipitate out as it's concentration is gonna be too high as it cools
How long do u think it would take using this process?
NaCl solubility in water doesn't change much with temperature (unlike many other salts).
Can it be done in 5 days?

if you want crystals to grow you have to leave it outside so the waster evaporates

This is just table salt (sodium chloride) which has a cubic crystal structure. So it would have six sides.
