this theme hits SO hard, i vividly remember my second run of this game from about a month and a half ago, it was a BP only run, and this fight was insanely close. it was extremely exhilarating.
I have done two runs of this game, one of them was a regular 100% and another a bp only challenge. In the first one I died because I got greedy while in another I had to be on my superguard game or I would’ve lost the battle. Luckily I got the superguard timing down mid fight. I also forgot peekaboo so I was just hoping little Kuma (Yoshi) would kill her. That fight was so intense and that’s why I want to do hero mode for ttyd. Ttyd means so much to me so ye 😅
I love it that they made the music it more sinister when fighting the Shadow Queen to let you know what's on the line and this is the final battle, you can't give up!
This is incredible! And people who are saying that the og version is better are just suffering from a duckling syndrome. Original theme went for creepy, this version goes for an epic final battle, WHILE fixing flaws of the original.(Like a very short loop and track sounding repetitive) Both go for a completely different feeling and excel at it! So ffs, enjoy og, new or both but let others enjoy what they like without being a party pooper.
Idk why you'd have that bit about people saying the og version is better having some duckling syndrome and then saying to enjoy what you want. Aside from that I agree about the versions' strengths
@@unovi8141 Glorifying og version, while ignoring strengths of the other is usually done by people blinded by nostalgia. If new version sounds different then it doesn't mean it is inherently worse. This line of thought escapes people who are experiencing duckling syndrome. If I ended up coming off like I have something against people who just enjoy og version, then my bad, didn't mean it that way.
Everyone should stop saying one version of this song is better or worse than the other. They're both incredible, just in different ways. The original was meant to encapsulate the finality of this fight, the final hurdle between you and victory - "This is the final battle. Let's do this, Mario." The remade track is focusing much more on how powerful the Shadow Queen is - "We're against a being of more power than has never seen before - but we can do it. Let's save the world from certain death, once and for all."
This theme hits so much harder when you forget to equip feeling fine and feeling fine p 😂😂😂..... thank god Vivian still attackdd the queen when she was confused and not mario.....
I would say that what the remake version adds is an underlying feeling of madness. The original was very eldritch and ethereal, with some hints of majesty when the violins played. The remake ramped up the intensity while also adding voices wailing and chanting in the background of certain parts, which remind you how utterly insane the Shadow Queen is.
The Shadow Queen was never alive to begin with and to my knowledge this is the reason why she can only be sealed away. She was slain in battle by heroes in the past but her soul was unable to rest so they had to trap her. Mario would later again seal her soul away again but substantially weaken it so this time the seal remains permanent.
Thank you quick change buff stalling (fyi that's when you use quick change to switch a partner into battle, buff them, then switch out again then you have them switch in, attack, and leave. it might count as cheating so oopsies)
this song is genuinely so epic, im glad they remaked with (ofc, because new game). been listening to it from time to time since 2 years ago or so, def among my favorite games ost:)
Didn‘t expect a Mario RPG to have this challenging of a final Boss. But I‘m not complaining! Just kind of wish Vivian didn‘t trivialize the entire Fight
As my as I would of beat this game in a week, I wanted to enjoy it like a glass of wine 🍷 before it’s sadly over for one of my favorite Paper Mario games of all time and this is far more then a expected for a badass final boss theme. I totally see this more like a Shadow King fit if the game had one more Shadow tyrant expectedly final FINAL boss like thing!
Perhaps in the next Paper Mario, should Nintendo get their head out of their asses, they'll expand on The Thousand-Year Door's story. Kind of like how they did for Breath of the Wild with Tears of the Kingdom. In Breath of the Wild, we had no idea that Ganondorf lay dormant under Hyrule Castle. So, Intelligent System can conjure a similar plot for expanding on The Thousand-Year Door and explaining what happened to the Shadow King during the Shadow Queen's reign.
I ain’t gonna lie, this is probably the best Paper Mario final boss song I’ve heard. Imo, it’s a major improvement from the original. The electric guitar and choirs add so much to this. And the new part added to this is a chef’s goddamn kiss. Probably tied with Spectacular Finale and King of the Koopas for my personal favorite final battle themes in the series
Word on the street is that this and all the other battle themes with the Shadow Queen suck???? …No…I’m sorry but I have to heavily disagree with this. Maybe this is my guitar bias coming back again, but this is a phenomenal remix. And even though there’s a bigger emphasis on guitars and violins like most of the other tracks in the remake, I think it still sells the eerie vibe of the Shadow Queen, how you’re fighting this eldritch demon that’s hell bent on ending the world *and you* too. Although one thing I can say is that, I feel like there should’ve been an organ playing here too. The guitar mixing in with the violin and the haunting vocals are friggin great, but I feel like some parts could’ve been played with an organ there, since it felt like the OG them had a major emphasis on it. I think that’s what slightly holds this track back for me and makes me liking phase 1 of the theme a bit more. But both tracks are KILLER don’t get the wrong idea here.
An organ definitely would have sold just how evil the Shadow Queen of Death Metal is. She's definitely one of my favorite villains alongside Grodus and Dimentio. Truly evil bastards.
Oh shit! Carbon is destroying the world! (If anyone does not know what im talking about please go watch the badly translated version of paper mario ttyd)
Sounds better than the Gamecube version, refuse to play the original game now since the remake is out well few months ago in 2024 of May its End of September as I wrote this comment, it seems Nintendo/Intelligent Systems outdone themselves with this version of final battle of Shadow Queen. Beaten this boss on my Second Attempt, the trick here is to power up Vivan the second time, use the firey Jinx on those Shadow Queen Hands. Think it works just the same, all the way back in the Paper Mario Thousand Year Door Version of the Gamecube of 2004.
The arranged OST is terrible. It completely misunderstood what made the original’s OST so great which was the use of synths in such an unique way. Both origami and TTYD remake are just generic metal orchestral tracks. Thank god they added the GC medal.
I’d been uneasy about the late game tracks since I wasn’t a fan of a couple of the chapter boss tracks in comparison to their OGs, but FUCK did Chapters 6-8 blow my worries out of the water
i just beat the shadow Queen for the first time yesterday took me 3 trys but wow sutch a tough battle. i had never played this before and it was my first time sutch a fun game but the last part rely puts you though your paces and this soundtrack slaps.
First fight to make me upset, beat her in 4 tries (No Mega rush or Quick change Lvl 26) I liked the challenge though it was close, almost beat her 2nd try but didn't take the risk of attacking since we were both one shot. Note: you should focus spring jump with mario on Shadow Queen and use your partner for everything else including switching out otherwise you lose a turn. Quick change fixes the problem but I used my BP for P Up D Down and a Defense up badge so I had a total of 3 Attack up badges.
Also, I don’t see anyone else bringing this up, but anyone else find it strange that they slightly nerfed the Shadow Queen’s health? She had 200 HP in the GC version, but on Switch she has 150. Not that it makes it any less harder to beat her, but still weird that they did that.
Oh, if only the Game Grumps could have waited 7 years and played this version... There's a new option to skip all the cutscenery you had to go through before fighting her. Then Dan wouldn't be so mad. He'd only be somewhat mad.

Original theme went for creepy, this version goes for an epic final battle, WHILE fixing flaws of the original.(Like a very short loop and track sounding repetitive)
Both go for a completely different feeling and excel at it!
So ffs, enjoy og, new or both but let others enjoy what they like without being a party pooper.
Are people complaining? I personally prefer the og soundtrack, it's all subjective.
@@Neveroff-Official Probably fair to consider some of the differences in the new one to instead be weaknesses. That's just preference
@@unovi8141 True. Personally I miss the evil chanting in the background that the og version had. That is definitely weakness.

Everyone should stop saying one version of this song is better or worse than the other. They're both incredible, just in different ways.
The original was meant to encapsulate the finality of this fight, the final hurdle between you and victory - "This is the final battle. Let's do this, Mario."
The remade track is focusing much more on how powerful the Shadow Queen is - "We're against a being of more power than has never seen before - but we can do it. Let's save the world from certain death, once and for all."
Ok this is addictive.
shoutout to the star sprite bingo that saved me when i was at 12 hp and severely low fp and sp
Original version was a rave, this one's a mosh pit.
😂😂😂 Because the Shadow Queen is the Queen of Death Metal! 🤘
Doing this with Double Pain, P-Up D-Down, and without using Danger Mario is a rush.

I always make sure to switch to vivian for this fight. that way you let her beat up her evil mom.
This theme hits so much harder when you forget to equip feeling fine and feeling fine p 😂😂😂..... thank god Vivian still attackdd the queen when she was confused and not mario.....
0:01 Autobots, transform and roll out!
The original was more chaotic. The new track sounds like it’s reminding you that you’re up against a god. It’s an interesting change.
The Shadow Queen? More like the Shadow Goddess.
They re-revived the Shadow Queen!!!
Shoutout to Mrs Mowz who’s Love Kiss move helped heal me back up to 30HP and was enough to get me through to the end (heart was racing by the end)
Am I the only one that hears bits of The Ultimate Show and Battle with King Olly?
Why is nobody talking about 1:40? THEY LITERALLY PUT THE MAIN THEME LEMOTIVE AND ONLY I NOTICED!!😮😮😊😊
It's been there since 2004, but is way more dramatic and noticeable for sure.
More interestingly, they added Bleck's motif in the extension.
if you have many power rush and 5hp. you can do anything!
Thank you quick change buff stalling
(fyi that's when you use quick change to switch a partner into battle, buff them, then switch out again then you have them switch in, attack, and leave. it might count as cheating so oopsies)
this song is genuinely so epic, im glad they remaked with (ofc, because new game). been listening to it from time to time since 2 years ago or so, def among my favorite games ost:)
0:14 Love how this part became the bit before the music locks into full throttle
This soundtrack slaps like the Shadow Queen herself.
They did not need to go hard on the guitar but its much appreciated.
That bass is kickass, too.
The Queen of Death Metal. 🤘
Didn‘t expect a Mario RPG to have this challenging of a final Boss. But I‘m not complaining!
Just kind of wish Vivian didn‘t trivialize the entire Fight
Could you upload the remake version of "Sadness and Happiness"?

2:12 Those violins, they did not have to go this hard
My mouth was wide open to the floor when I heard how Nintendo remade this.
Sounds like it could’ve come out of Castlevania, I love it!!

Was it just me, or did they make the Bingos a LOT easier to get during this battle? (I managed to get two in a row)
One of them is always scripted to happen, even in the original. The other you got lucky.
The first Bingo after the supporting cutscene (yes even in the OG) is a guaranteed Shine
The bingos after that are up to your luck
@@leonmystique9372Well the bingoes are entirely timeable, but yeah the first one is scripted.
@@bluerious5475 Yeah, is it easier to time it in the remake than the OG tho?
@@leonmystique9372 I swear it's actually harder to time BINGO in the remake literally because lower framerate makes it harder to see the roulette.

(If anyone does not know what im talking about please go watch the badly translated version of paper mario ttyd)
well if Dimentio is the kefka of mario, the shadow queennstands on her own
if Dimentio is Kefka, that'd make the SQ Exdeath, which somehow fits.
That's weird we beat the game the same day lol
First fight to make me upset, beat her in 4 tries (No Mega rush or Quick change Lvl 26)
I liked the challenge though it was close, almost beat her 2nd try but didn't take the risk of attacking since we were both one shot. Note: you should focus spring jump with mario on Shadow Queen and use your partner for everything else including switching out otherwise you lose a turn. Quick change fixes the problem but I used my BP for P Up D Down and a Defense up badge so I had a total of 3 Attack up badges.
Man, the first 0:30 of this makes it so obvious this has the same composer as Advance Wars Dual Strike lol

Also, I don’t see anyone else bringing this up, but anyone else find it strange that they slightly nerfed the Shadow Queen’s health? She had 200 HP in the GC version, but on Switch she has 150. Not that it makes it any less harder to beat her, but still weird that they did that.
she's always had 150 HP. The one with 200 is Bonetail

0:59 Sad that they changed the part from the og ost 😢

A rare occurrence where the original was better.
if you think about it this theme not having an organ is pretty appropriate because the head of a paper mario fan doesn't have one either
Huge glow up for the OST as a whole. Went from the worst paper Mario OST to one of the best
true. now it's the second best soundtrack, first being origami king for obvious reasons
To even call the original ost of ttyd the worst is one of the most garbage takes I've ever read. No way you actually think trash like color splash onward has better ost
@@lordninetails514 I've played all the paper Mario games. The modern games have Many Many problems but the music is not one of them. For the record ttyd is my favorite game In the series, but the transition from the n64's weirdly designed music system to the GameCube's more standardized one hurt ttyd's OST badly. It works a lot better now
@@unraged6004 Nah you just have modern bias. Playing through this remake I did like a good amount of the new music in the game but the sheer amount of songs that have a guitar thrown in it for no reason is just excessive which is exactly what origami king does as well. The last paper Mario with music variety was honestly sticker star then everything after that just took the "smash ultimate" approach and everything uses a guitar or violin, it's dull
