One of the very first bows I got was one that my luthier and cello teacher told me that it was the best in his shop so I bought it. ( of course I heard him play with it) and indeed it was way better than the cheap bow he provided for me ( I was a complete beginner) but over the years that I’ve had this bow, I struggled with it. Got sore at times just playing a complete short piece! I then realized that the bow was just heavy so I trade it in for a more manageable one.
Indeed Monica, the research for the right bow can take such a long time. A too heavy bow is never good. Right now I am playing on a quite heavy bow, it’s good for some things. But for special bow strokes, it makes it more difficult. Although the heavy bow feels great to play the Swan 😃
Thank you ever so much. As a new player that began in their fifties, your videos have been invaluable, especially these technique breakdowns. Thank you very much for the time you put into developing them. Also loving the Feuillard series.
Fantastic advise, starting back on cello after a few years, had a wonderful teacher who told me all these tips. Such great videos Llia, thank you so much
thank you, Ilya. Your advice is really helpful and your illustrations are beautiful; even your illustration of what not to do sounds good but not as good as the good examples!
We aren't all here as cello players. I am composing an orchestral piece where I need the cello's to "chug like a steam train". This lesson was extremely useful to me. Thank you.

Your tips were beneficial, especially when you showed a bag which was hanging on your right elbow to feel a correct bowing.

Boa tarde obrigado excelente aula
Obrigado!
Every time I apply a medium boy pressure the bow doesn’t grip the string. I add rosin to see if it can fix it but it didn’t. Plz help
How new is the bow?
@@Mipha-u5d pretty new I got it like a week ago from the time I commented. it is getting less and less scratchy the more I use it.
@@isaacvesa9764 well that’s good!
Do you have tips for warming up/breaking in new bow hair?
Speaking of beautiful sound your speaking voice is very nice! You should take some acting roles
Actually also if you don't like the wrong version of each composition you used as an example... I find your sound alway great 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Maestro very nice lesson. Thanks a lot ❤. Can you tell me what is your reference for the Cello position? (height)
You are welcome! If I understood your question right, do you mean how and where to hold it? If it’s the case, it suppose to lie on the chest.
Dicas maravilhosas obrigado Mestre.
Obrigado! Espero que isso te vai ajudar!
Mestre você tocando,de qualquer forma esta perfeito, fica difícil da gente perceber você fazendo o errado para nos mostrar kkkk
Kkkkk 😂
1:58 is a part of a piece?
Yes absolutely! It is the finale from Don Quixote by Richard Strauss! Breathtaking music!
Where can I find it I really want to play it 1:58
Does the loud breathing help?
Спасибо, а играешь ли ты гамбовым смычком? И есть у тебя опыт игры на жилых струнах ? Интересно послушать твое мнение.
🙏🙏🙏
When I'm playing one string the other stings also vibrate especially when playing in the 5th position

I play flute, but I am writing a story where one of the main players plays cello. I now want to play cello… 😭
Please join us 😃 But I love your instrument too! Specially that it’s not heavy to carry 😄

Thank you! And great that I could that a little part into your new composition ;)
