When she says "when did the light die" it's because her mother, when drunk or angry would mae her sleep outside the home, and when the lights went out, Sinead knew she wouldn't sleep in her bed that night.
This takes me back, I was only into metal in those days, Metallica, Megadeth, Judas Priest etc.. but my girlfriend liked weird shit like Souixsie and the Banshees. One day she she put this album on and it honestly hit me very hard, the songs Jackie, Troy and Drink Before the War especially. The Lion and the Cobra will always be one of my favorite albums and Sinead will always hold a special place in my heart for showing me that other forms of music besides metal could be very powerful in their own way.
