As an aro ace person, I'm always expected to hate romance and relationships and stay single forever. While that is completely badass and valid, I personally love cuddles and most romantic things! Most recently it was the young readers' edition of "I Am Malala" for my 10 yr. old budding activist niece's birthday. It took a while for her to read it, but she was gushing afterward about how inspired she was by Malala's story, and her work. For her little sister, it was the late, great Terry Pratchett's "The World Of Poo". She didn't put it down for weeks. I'm lowkey proud to be that relative, who finds the books that fit people, especially the niecelings!

I was in Germany once and a german girl asked me about my friend "is she your girlfriend?" (in english). I was confused, because i knew she didn't know english that well and she might have been just asking whether she was my friend? like a female friend - they have specific word for that in german: "freundin"... As an aro ace person, I'm always expected to hate romance and relationships and stay single forever. While that is completely badass and valid, I personally love cuddles and most romantic things! In fact, I have a girlfriend and she's wonderful. I will never understand what a crush feels like, but I can definitely understand the longing to have someone to cuddle in a library with.
To me, a biromantic Ace, it feels like the same fascination and heart filling feeling as looking at puppies and wanting to keep them.... but the feeling is aimed at a person and every little thing they do is cute to you. Even as a kid, I always wanted to be a lesbian. I know I'm AMAB, so being with girls is "normal", but it still never felt right to be a straight guy. Something about lesbisn relations always felt so full of love, and passion and a certain rightness to it I could never put into words.
To no ones surprise, I'm trans (well, fluid anyway) but I'll always mourn not being able to grow up as a girl and experience the life of a sapphic girl discovering herself.
When I was a kid this girl said that she was going to call me “Penny” because she said I looked more like a Penny than a Mattie (my name). So I went by Penny for a while after that (it’s a nickname for me in my current friend group in college because of that story lol)

I came to the realization recently that growing up I was attracted to men that looked stereotypically more feminine by society’s standards ie long hair, slender with little muscle, clean shaven. As I got older I convinced myself that this wasn’t true. Now that I see all the toxic masculinity/heteronormative/cis culture I realize that I’ve also been attracted to people who would be under the non-binary umbrella and that I also was one of those people. This is irrelevant but I recently got a new frying pan and it's great! We had our old one for 8 years and it was crooked so it didn't conduct heat evenly anymore. The new one is very light and heats up quickly and the teflon coating seems to be pretty durable too, yay! ^^

I was in Germany once and a german girl asked me about my friend "is she your girlfriend?" (in english). I was confused, because i knew she didn't know english that well and she might have been just asking whether she was my friend? like a female friend - they have specific word for that in german: "freundin"... And to this day i'm not sure what she was trying to ask, i think a lot about this one for some reason. I can't remember exactly what i replied, but i can imagine that my closeted butt was freaking out. Probably said smth like "no, she's my FRIEND, why?👀👀👀"

When my mom gives us books as presents, she writes a nice little note to us on the inside of the book (inside of the cover or on the copyright page). I think this is a tradition she's picked up from her parents and I love it. I'm going to carry on the tradition :)
