Gotta say, didn't know if I was going to find these that entertaining, but lesson learned. Not only entertaining but a little educational also. Thanks for the channel, good job doc.
So, about the scene where he "kicks" that dudes foot, it's actually possible to make it happen. Well, basically there a lot of judo and jiu jitsu moves in the movie and this move an example, so there is a point on your feet that if you have a good timing and depending on how you're going to move the other person's arms you can make that person fall in a super easy way, and this move is called De ashi harai
Took the words right out of my mouth! I was about to talk about foot sweeps from Judo. I have never done Judo but have done Jiu Jitsu, and was a wrestler for 8 years.
6:24 Actually for me it’s realistic. In wrestling we do a move called a sweep single and basically sweep the other wrestlers leg in the air with our own leg (kinda what he did) and sometimes (not all the time) their legs end up flying like this
Military grade martial arts have a similar technique. To get the legs over the head you need to either be using momentum against them or adding force in your own movement to force them up. A notable use of this is a kick reversal where a kick is caught, the off balance leg is swept and the caught leg is pushed to make it a flip onto the back or neck. Depending on how much rotation you get and how high the reversed kick was it's a fatal counter because it's bringing a lot of weight and momentum down onto the head or neck.
Judoka here, it's absolutely a real technique, and in Judo we call it De Ashi Barai. It requires really accurate timing, but when you pull it off, the adversary goes flying just like we see in the clip.
@@faustomadebr The simple fact that the movie shows that the mags have actual capacity limits and they're shown having to reload and Wick does press checks on his pistols is amazing
@@danielburke911 It goes further than that. The press checks you mention (checking the chamber after reloading), he does that everytime he reload that one gun, but he does that only for one gun, not the other guns he use during the movie. And that gun he does that check, is a gun that is prone to jamming.
I’m a former navy SARC (Basically a SOF combat medic, for those that don’t know) and I love the realism of most of the scenes, there are a few scenes that I have my complaints about, but most of the TCCC and CQB is realistic from my experiences. And the weapons handing is on point
@@BS-ne5cr yah I have I think it’s great that he is actually trained with real firearms and I think that we need more people like him in the 2A+ community
@@Blue-zs2sn heck, I'd like to be like him. Lol. I just don't have the money to train like him. I can hit the target if I'm shooting at it but I would love to be extremely precise. That only comes with practice oh well.
I would love to see doctor mike, a gun expert and a martial artist review scenes from this movie together and tell us what’s all accurate, who’s with me?
I love how he's like "they aren't speaking Russian" 😂😂😂 the last thing I thought during this video was that Dr Mike is Russian and would know what they said
Fun fact: John giving people a shot in the heart/ upper torso then one in the head is called a "double tap", and it taught to soldiers in training, because it's believed to be the most successful way of killing someone
The tossing off one's shoulders from a fireman carry is genuinely superb easy. We don't do it in Judo or BJJ for safety, so we maintain control, but yes. It's realistic. You can 100% toss someone off like that and send them flying. The leg trip, with the right kuzushi, can also easily be done to the point where you go heels high up. Legit stuff.
Missed opportunity at 3:43... Wick wasn't crushing the big dude's toe. That was an instep stomp, and from what I understand, the pain and complications of fixing and/or relocating damaged tarsal bones could probably be a whole video onto itself.
That is a thing about Doctors/Surgeons that is quite true. They know exactly where to *not* to cut that'll do the *most* pain without losing *too* much blood. . . They say that Hippocratic oath for a reason, Those who can do the most good, can also do the most harm.
*Guy gets stabbed in the heart* Doctor Mike: "In my professional opinion, I think I could say with certainty, under expert consideration, that this guy is DEAD...
For the scene where she just “flew off his shoulder” is actually realistic in the judo world. After doing Judo for almost 4 years you can pick up certain things in movies, the move he used is kinda like the move named point move
So i happen to be a fighter myself (started taking classes roughlt 5-6 years ago) and i can attest that the movie actually is super realistic with how people react. That leg kick where his legs go over his hesd is very real, thats a judo move. The "effortless" throw where she flies off his shoulder is also real, hes combining her momentum with muscles in his arms, back and a little bit in the legs. This obviously isnt an insult as i wont deny, those specific moves do tend to look impossible or fake even in real life when you see it. There are other effortless throws like that one that i almost think aren't real until they are done to me. The thing about the world of John Wick is that everything is a 50/50 between sheer skill and knowledge, and tradition. Thats why wick drinks alcohol even when he is bleeding. Or why while he is very, VERY aware of anatomy and what part of your body does what, john relies on a doctor to fix him whenever possible. The world follows a very seperate set of rules. But in real life youd be right, the alcohol thing just doesn't make sense.
"everyone's just wet and dying" is one of the most low key funniest things I've ever heard uttered by a human mouth. Also yeah the Russian in this movie made me snort, but forgivable cos it's just such a damn good film and series.
I love how most of this is "Well this specific injury is really rough and often hard to recover from, but then that bullet to the head just kinda made it a non-issue" XD
Actually some of the judo moves used in here can actually make you fly more dramatically than you think, it's how you use your opponents momentum and weight distribution at the time of implementing the technique, it's obviously not easy, but if done correctly it is possible for your feet to fly over your head so to speak.
Totally agreed, most mixed martial arts teach you how to use your body effectively against opponents body and their momentum. you can actually flip people twice your size easily if done correctly. You just have to pivot properly and make sure body balance is correct. Also a lot of time he suggested certain things are not realistic for example the body builder not reacting much over knife on his shoulder but jumping when wick stomps on his feet. I think he ignored the fact that many body builders work more on their upper body and take suppliments which makes their big muscles hard and a little numb because of stress on them. but small muscles like on feet are more reactive because they are closer to small bones. you can kick a guy on chest and he might even not feel much but when he accidentally hits a corner on his pinky, he would cry hahaha. So there are a lot of variables which I think John wick plays an accurate role in.
John Wick is a cinematic masterpiece of an action movie because there is not a lot of cut on cut fight scenes, and Keanu Reeves does most of his fighting stunts cause he's trained in it. Dude's freaking awesome
"He kicks him were his legs go way above his head, so not realistic" I studied Judo and trust me, I happens a lot, specially in side to side movement like in the one shown here.
from that I also know that the strangly parts are pretty accurate; movement wise, from the sounds one makes fighting back and that one can fight back for pretty long time, without getting too oxygen depleted
@Wonka But, if you're judoka, then you would look at that and say that the legs swung up faster than the leg sweep swept, right? Now, it might be something with angular momentum, so I'm not sure-sure. But it certainly looks as if there wasn't enough power behind that leg sweep to make them go THAT high (/that fast).
“I think I’m back!!” That part was totally unexpected but absolutely welcome 🤣🤣 to be honest though, being at the mercy of a doctor when they’ve lost their mind or is out for revenge-especially for a cutie like Bear- seems much scarier than an axe wielding maniac. So glad you covered John Wick, yay!
My thoughts were oh, that supposed to be russian. I just don't understand, there are quite a lot russian actors in the USA. They don't need to teach someone find and no problem.
"I have access to those tools." * shows a pregnant belly with the sonography gel being rubbed on * SO IM JUST HERE IMAGINING DOCTOR MIKE WALKING AROUND WITH THAT GEL IN HIS POCKETS AND USING IT EVERYTIME SOMEONE SHADY COMES NEAR HIM. AND THEY GET GROSSED OUT BY THE COLD GOOEY GEL AND WHILE THEY'RE DISTRACTED, MIKE SHOOTS THEM IN THE FACE.
@@warriormaiden9829 I'd fear also a skilled chemist/biologist, especially if they're part of a crime scene unit. Imagine someone that can kill you in many ways and make it look like it's been done in another way. IIRC Abby in NCIS uses that as a threat several times with McGee or even DiNozzo, something along the lines "I know a lot of ways to kill you and even more ways to make it look like something else"
Hey Dr. Mikhail! You may never see this comment but I just wanted to say you have a certain… uplifting energy about you, which is not only entertaining for RUclips videos, but I bet does wonders for your patients too, and I respect that a ton!
Let's not forget that, when he got thrown off the balcony flat onto his back, he immediately rolls over to reveal a small-of-the-back pistol holster. Those things are super dangerous to fall onto just from standing hight because they are a lump of steel positioned directly over the vertebrae in exactly the spot people tend to land on when they fall backwards. That would have been a serious injury if he just got his legs swept out from under him, forget falling from a hight.
@@MTF.TAU5..Bob. , Most modern guns don't go off from impact like that. Unless Wick is carrying an old single-action revolver or a pretty janky relic of an auto-loader, that's not really something to worry much about.
Not that anyone would care being 3 weeks late and a dollar short, but Dr. Mike is absolutely right about the shattered glass. However precisely because of that modern sliding glass doors & those georgeous floor to celing windows are overwhelmingly tempered (not 100% but close). This still lends itself to minor probable lacerations during shattering simply because of the weight x velocity of the falling jagged debris (though small). It's enough to shear or tear through light weight clothing like a t shirt etc.
I went trough a glass door when i was younger and i nearly got cut in my femoral artery in my leg. It was scary. Is very unrealistic that they just break glass without any injuries at all.
@@MadGamer_666 It can happen, though. Specifically, to me. I was holding a glass bottle and tripped when I was about to open a sliding glass door. The entire door shattered, but I didn't have a scratch on me.
The part regarding his legs going above his head when kicked at 6:19 could be intentional on wick's part. Its a technique commonly used in chinese martial arts where rather than being stiff going against the upcoming force which can cause injuries one moves with it as to "cushion" or lessen chance of major injuries.
A ridiculously good shot. The guy who trained him in the 4-gun style said Keanu was good enough to compete at the world championship. I watched one of the training videos, and he moves through that obstacle course like he is John Wick cosplaying as Keanu Reeves.
The one he said wasn’t believable is the most believed lol that’s called a judo throw xD and it being a female being thrown by the much stronger much larger male makes perfect sense. Good judo technique too
Yep I have never done Judo but was a wrestler for 8 years and have been doing jiu jitsu for 2. Its very similar to a set up for a firemans carry in wrestling. Love this comment a lot of people dont really understand throws, its about leverage not strength.
It does look a little too easy. If you watch it in slow motion, you can actually see the actress kick her feet behind her to get momentum so that she flies off his back.

That's what I said yay another martial arts lover
I LOVE jiu jistu
Took the words right out of my mouth! I was about to talk about foot sweeps from Judo. I have never done Judo but have done Jiu Jitsu, and was a wrestler for 8 years.
@@ambition1066 yup
Appreciate the combat info.
6:24
Actually for me it’s realistic.
It would depend if during the move you stepped to the opposite side
Yes, but that specific kick did not have the power to do that
Judoka here, it's absolutely a real technique, and in Judo we call it De Ashi Barai. It requires really accurate timing, but when you pull it off, the adversary goes flying just like we see in the clip.

Actually some of the judo moves used in here can actually make you fly more dramatically than you think, it's how you use your opponents momentum and weight distribution at the time of implementing the technique, it's obviously not easy, but if done correctly it is possible for your feet to fly over your head so to speak.
literaly and just hate how he says its unrealistic like its not its just judo
Not to mention the other assassin is a woman and clearly not a bodybuilder so definitely lighter and easier to "launch"

But, if you're judoka, then you would look at that and say that the legs swung up faster than the leg sweep swept, right?
Now, it might be something with angular momentum, so I'm not sure-sure.
But it certainly looks as if there wasn't enough power behind that leg sweep to make them go THAT high (/that fast).

Let's not forget that, when he got thrown off the balcony flat onto his back, he immediately rolls over to reveal a small-of-the-back pistol holster. Most modern guns don't go off from impact like that.

The part regarding his legs going above his head when kicked at 6:19 could be intentional on wick's part.
