In this video, you'll witness a first-person-view of a ride on a SEPTA Silverliner II. I was riding from West Trenton, NJ to Woodbourne, PA, that afternoon -- and saw a set of Silverliner IVs waiting in the station when I had arrived. Knowing that the older Silverliners were running on borrowed time, I sat out the first train and waited for a veteran trainset to pull up to take me west. This is the footage from the ride, with location information on-screen.

Thank you very much, Wayne. I'm glad I got what I did, but I certainly could've documented far more and at a higher quality. But that's just another "shoulda coulda woulda" to learn from! Thank you for watching and for the comment! 😁

The genre of interior design of this train looks like the Boeing 707 commercial jet in 1950's, at when the "jet age" began.

SEPTA is almost finished taking delivery of their new fleet of Silverliner V's (they basically look like subway cars) from Hyundai-Rotem. Those, the Silverliner IV's, and their mixed coach sets are the only things now running the Trenton Line.

You'll never be seeing the Comet 1s again either. They're in the sidings at Overbrook yard next to their aging Silverliner companions now that the Silverliner V order is complete and their time is up.

very nice, sucks that they are being retired.

Everything has a limited life span. Amtrak is talking about getting rid of the Amfleets for new coaches with bigger windows and probably flat sides. The Genesis diesels will be replaced with new Siemens Chargers. Eventually, most rail equipment from the 20th century will only be in museums and tourist railroads, or cut up for scrap. Did the Reading/PRR silver cars on SEPTA become razorblades? It's a safety thing. Older equipment that is becoming unreliable is eventually retired and replaced with new equipment.

Love watching those pantographs flex with the catenary height.

Excellent video, Kyle! You've preserved the Silverliner II riding experience for posterity. I rode them on the NEC when they were brand new. Compared to their predecessors, the MP-54's, the acceleration from a dead stop was exhilarating.

It was recorded a while before that, I just didn't realize at the time that it'd be the last time I got to ride them. So it was my personal "Final Farewell," but not the official one that would come later on.
