Dude literally me too ... For a long time I couldn't bring myself to listen to this song without balling like a baby. I'm really glad I started listening to it again.
I’ve been looking for this song for like 15 years!!!! Heard it once in my dad’s car at the age of 7 and it altered my brain chemistry until it ended. SO glad to finally be able to put a name to it
Hope you enjoy Cold War kids, I’m not familiar of their newer stuff, but their first 3 albums are legit. They are also good to see live if you get the chance. Saw them a few months ago.
@@BigShree Back in 2014 I was battling demons and eating disorders galore. Self harm and hospital bedd were my standard. I can safely say that I’m happily married with a 1 year old and now haven’t been at my worst in 2 years. It’s not ideal, and I have my days/weeks. But its better. And those hospital beds? There. But the fires are nearly out.
I haven't heard this song in a good 6 years but it just came up on an old playlist I rediscovered today. I'm really happy I found this band again tonight.
The entire album is about mental health/addiction and how it affects those around people with that struggle. We Used to Vacation, the first song, is prime example. Cold War Kids are seriously underrated musicans.
Wow, I didn't even know there was a video for this! My favorite song on the album! And this is seriously almost 10 years old ALREADY?! Time. What you doing. STAHP.
Similarily kind of... i was listening when kinda happy kinda sad , and i remember teenage years i used to hate , and i realized im no longer person i used to be , so this song will now remind me of happy time =))
Having worked in hospitals, I think this song is insightful. Patients in hospitals are often stuck with roommates that become their companions in agony. Esp the elderly, they share old memories (Vietnam, fishing trips) while dealing with current frustrations (nurses fussing, docs from India). The longer they stay, the more people they see and the more stories they hear. I think of the video as the guy who gets knocked out telling his story to his hospital roommate.
Takes on a whole new meaning right now. To everyone who might be sitting in a hospital bed right now, listening to this, stay strong. We're all rooting for you.

When my grandmother was in the hospital a few months ago I listened to it a lot because it did accurately describe the feelings and portrayed the experience well. She passed away now, I’m just glad she’s not suffering anymore
31 here. Heard this song when I was about 15. Haven't heard it in years and woke up today hearing the piano from the chorus and immediately searched it up
I broke my neck 4 years ago, and spent quite a bit of time in a hospital and made friends with the guy next to me. It is a weird bond. We still stay in contact! Jon, hope your stomach is doing well brother.
I'm walking down Seventh Avenue a few days ago, between Lincoln Place and Saint John's, and there's a guy across the street with his headphones in, screaming these lyrics, headed wherever he was going. Took me waaaaay back. Thanks, random man with great taste in music!
I read somewhere that this song was written from the point of view of someone who is in a mental hospital who believes they shouldn't be, which is the irony of it all because a lot of mental patients who are really sick believe they're not crazy.
Only when you have been hospitalized yourself, you know how accurate this song is. What is amazing about this song, is that it's like this everywhere in the world. I am from Poland and I can confirm here it's the same. Lying now in hospital listening to this song over and over again. Joy in misery!
saw these guys live 3 years ago in Brussels...1) great on stage 2) very entertaining and interactive with the crowd! They are a great low profile band...i like...!
I feel like the music video didn’t even come close to visualizing the emotional power of this song, but I find that often in 2000s music vids for some reason.
