Around 3-4 months ago, I couldn't run consistently for 5mins without gasping for air. Now I can do a sub 30 5K without stopping. I know it's not as good as his but hope to get onto your level someday
I am same as you are. 5k 30min. Hope to move to 25 min
Hey Reyver, how are things progressing with your goal? Has your time improved since this last comment?
@@thepsychologist8159 I did it 26:10 for 5km, when I was participating 10km run. I was around fast pacers and it helped😀. I was not running as fast as they are however I am doing my PR.
@@TheMonchairman Progress of 4 minutes. That's excellent, keep it up. Plus also you did a 10km. Recently I decided to buy myself a treadmill. I've found many positives to this but one thing especially is locking in a pace and sticking to it. For example, after doing a warm-up I can set the pace to 12 km/h which equates to a 25 min 5km. But the other positive is being able to run when it's raining or freezing cold outside or just doing an easy long-run without having to leave the house. Also, I bought it because I sustained a deep muscle tear in my calf muscle (shin splint) so I wanted to reduce the impact force on my feet/legs compared to running on tarmac.
Oh, and the other 'bonus' is my wife now uses it more than I do so it keeps her in shape!
5km in 22:30 second completed but 5km in 19:00minit how finish....
As a runner, you don’t know how impressive this is for someone of his weight.
Yeah cause most long distance runners are skinny with no muscles. This guy lift weights too.
Eric Lukan I agree but the fact that he’s running on a track with no hills makes the time a lot better. Not trying to hate just saying it will make you faster
AJ Music no shit, he did a time trial why would he want to run it anywhere else lol
@@thefitnesslife4988 this dude smashes about 750mg of anabolics a week lol. You think he would go faster than mid 18's on a track.
if you took as much gear as he is clearly taking you would be way faster bro.
46 years old and did my best time today of 29 minutes for 5K. Had to go for it and I am so proud of myself 🙏🏻✌🏻
nice man!
I am at 27 minutes 34 sec… Step by step🏃♀️
Amazing brother
27 minutes now, still loving it. 🫶🏻
46 I’m low 6s for 1 mile and 21 min for 5k
Just ran a 21:13 5k time at 23 years old. I’m 6’3 about 215 and have been running consistently for about 6 months. Working to cut down on weightlifting and become more of a hybrid athlete with running/ yoga. Thanks nick you have definitely inspired me to achieve more out of my body than I thought was possible and I can’t wait for the journey ahead! Cheers
How many km did you run a week during those 6 months assuming you obviously increased?
@@mohamedorayith4626 Since posting I’ve actually trained for and ran a full marathon in November 2021. During my training which was about 6 months, I ran 40-50 miles per week. I am currently training for another marathon that will be this June 2022 and plan on reaching up to 60 miles per week for a few weeks. It definitely takes weeks to work up to that mileage though and you don’t want to jump right into high mileage runs
Have you tried *pranayama* along with Yoga? It can do wonders to your lung capacity which will translate into better track time while running.
I think just hitting the gym looks better on the body than running, running is impressive but I wouldn’t trade it for more muscle
You sound very similar to me at that age. Be very careful about running at those heavier body weights, especially as you age. It's hard on joints, ligaments, and tendons.
I'm doing a 5k on May 1st.
I'm a recovering drug addict, last time I used I overdosed and they had to bring me back. That was September 15th. I recently changed my diet, started taking vitamins, and I am on my 3rd week of going to gym everyday.
My goal is just to finish this 5K no goal time just to complete. The end of summer I'll try another one and hopefully I see huge improvements. I have lost 30 pounds so far.
Any one struggling with life and you feel like you're in a rut... make a plan. What do you wanna change about your life?! Just show up... and do it.

You've come so far already 🤘
@@user-jo4of6rr6b thank you brother. I finished the 5k, my time could've been a little better but my goal was to just finish it. I have another 5k I signed up for 80 days out. I'm cutting my finish time in half, then I'll do a 10k. Getting married on the first, still sober, still hitting the gym everyday, diet etc. I feel great and look the best I have since high school.

Keep it up my man. I ran an 18:20 last year as a junior in high school. The one Key I learned is to be able to breathe correctly while running. I am shooting for sub 17:40 this year.
What mistakes were you making with breathing and how did you fix them?
Wait, did he say 6 mile cool down? Bruh 😐. That's my whole workout

@@vladiinsky that doesn't make you jacked, it does the opposite lmfao
The Medi0crGAmer It can easily be cooldown if the speed is low, the distance doesn’t really matter on cooldowns. This comes from an experienced runner and xc-skier.
Throughout high school and the early years of college I was a runner - well, kind of. I did hurdle races and the 400m dash. It's been five years since I stopped running and since then i've done basically nothing for cardio, and have actually gained a ton of weight as well. You're videos have inspired me to get back out there and start running again, this time for distance. Just wanted to let you know that you've been a big inspiration for me to get back to doing something that I love and had lost for a long time.

Yah it wasn’t too bad. Probably would place well in my cross country section.
Your right about pacing though. If you work on that you can easily achieve somewhere around 18:15_18.20
@@anthonyd.fiacco5851 “wasn’t too bad”
It's fast, but it really isn't special. I run 18:49 at 197 Pounds, but not on a running track and with my asics DS-25 neutral running shoes. What do you think guys, would i be faster if i would be using those Nike VaporFly Next% and a running track? Most certainly. The thing is - Those times are no references, if equipment like these shoes are involved. A friend of mine (unexperienced runner) used those shoes, after running with a normal pair of asics, he was 4 MINUTES faster (from 35 smth to 31 smth). Nick would easily be a minute slower if he wouldn't use this shoe. And hence this shoe isn't the reference for most of the runners (simply because they are expensive as hell and unhealthy for your joints, because your legs will trust the cushioning, instead of using your very own Achilles Tendon), this time isn't really his PR.

This guy is inspiring. I'm 5'9", 189 pounds, Filipino, 43 years old, retired Navy. In the Navy, our biannual physical fitness test required a 1.5 mile run. My fastest 1.5 miler was 9:47 as a 22 year old. When serving with the Marines as Hospital Corpsmen, we run the Marine Corps PFT which is 3 miles. My fastest 3 miler was 21:30 as a 20 year old. I've been weight-training since high school. I have a similar build with Nick. In June and July I did a personal 5K challenge where I would run 5K, 4x a week for 8 weeks. I lost so much weight and became extremely weak. I ran it on the treadmill, with a 1.5 incline and a consistent speed of 6.0. I would finish the run in 31:07 each time. Throughout the weeks I began changing the speed. The fastest I have recently ran the 5K is 28:11, which consisted of running 3 laps at 7mph. I am going to attempt to run it at speeds of 7 and 8mph, and during the last half lap or full lap, kick at about 10mph. Perhaps I can finish under 24-25 minutes, but I'm happy with a solid 26 minutes. I'm going to watch more of his videos for some tips. Nick is truly amazing! He makes me want to run all day long.
Great accomplishment, that time is no easy task for a PR. To make that gain in that period of time is incredible. What’s also interesting is though you said at the last lap you were tired you looked like you were just cruising and maintained the same form start to finish. Congrats!
This is very impressive. To get this time I’d have to run my fastest mile 3 times in a row. I’m 170lbs but I used to be 197 of pure fat. I’m much stronger now and much faster so I’m going to try and get to Nick’s pr. I do know that I’ll have to train as much as he has so I’m ready to put in the work. Wish me luck guys

Man, at this body weight and this speed, the average heart rate of 151 is awesome man. I have been training but it just won't go lower than 170-180 and I am getting tired after 10min.
Henry the Garmin watches tend to not give u the exact heart rate, especially on all out runs. When I do easy runs for example my heart rate is about 150-165 (the Garmin watch says it) and when I do a max 5k it’s always about 150.. But when I measure it by myself it’s way higher so I think it’s just the watch which gets it wrong
Remember, everyone has their own heartrate. Dont compare. I know a pro cross country skier here in norway and his absolut max is 165. I use a hear rate monitor from garmin, thats accurate.
Dont trust the wrist readings, if you want accurate data use cheststrap
If you did an all out track effort with a Garmin wrist reading, your HR would read the same. No way that is his heart rate, then he either jogged or is above 50 years old
Don’t get discouraged! I personally run 17:31 in the 5k as a junior. When I race my heart rate get close to 195 and when I jog it hangs around 170. Try and just slow your runs down so you can run for your a longer time. After that you can gradually speed up.
good effort, much faster than me, im wondering why you trust the inacuracy of a gps watch to measure your 5k when your running on track? 5k is 12.5 laps that track will be exactly 400m.
Adam Mcneill good way to track times
Was the track he ran on 400m? Because since he did not run 12.5 laps... He only ran 12.25 so he had then 50m left
Noa kort och gott Looks to me like he did end it on a half lap
I actually counted it was twelve and in my opinion nearly half laps. Little bit short maybe by 20 mins. I never trust the GPS. But like I said way faster than me :-D
I agree, great effort but if you are on the track, use that for distance and not your watch. When you are racing, you can’t stop when your watch beeps, you stop when you hit the line.

That forum, & frankly individual attitudes who are THAT toxic, do not only choose not to see OTHERS' glasses half-full... but they shun & shame ANYONE ELSE who might believe that this might be impressive given his age, fitness history, sex, & supplementation. I didn't do a deep dive into the forum but I guarantee they accuse world champions of doping, shame university athletes for "slow" times-all the while most of them themselves couldn't hold candles anything near those achievements they criticize.
@@snowsnow4231 Many people on that forum are people who ran in college track competitively, so they would consider an 18:29 minute 5k to be slow.
You can't trust the watch GPS on a track. 5k is 12.5 laps so you pulled up like 60m short. Still probably a big pr for you but more like 18:40.
My firiend got fenix 6x pro and whe he runn like a Nick right now the GPS show bad distance, so he bought foodpod from adidas and niw showing almost superb, but he said he musi check last update for garmin, cause most people had a problem with GPS during running On stadium.
still incredible for a dude as heavily muscled as Nick, can you imagine seeing him on a track thinking you'd totally smash him only to see him keeping up with you lol
No it’s 12 laps and a 160 because a 5k is 3.l miles
Did he pull up short or go long though? I always find gps watches cut the corners off and you run longer.
@@leonchristensen1765 Nick shoukd try out foodpod
This was more like 18:45 to be fair but it’s still an amazing time. Congratulations, especially with your weight
Im 6ft 1 and 231 you inspired me to run. I run 5k’s everyday now because you showed me that I can. Incorporating z2 training to increase my aerobic base, hope one day I can run as fast as you.
Wow ! Nice body shape and excellent fitness . Enjoy your video
lol I love the pink nikes, you're a BEAST MAN!
Im 104kg and today I did a 5k in 21.52 😀 so happy!
Nice well done
You definitely prove that muscular people can run fast times
This man makes 5:30 pace look easier than anything
One can only EVER appreciate this time if you run yourself. Im stuck on 20:50 for the past 6 months. I started running +- 2 years ago. 18:29 at that Weight is INSANE
If he's on a legit 400m/lap track, should've ended at 12.5 laps. Solid effort nonetheless.
Ian Donnelly I’m sure he’s comparing the same distance as last one so it’s comparable
I had the same thought but that track looks a little older and it may not have been measured correctly.
Christopher Knutson gps tends to be inaccurate on a track
Christopher Knutson 5k=5km=5,00m.......5000m/400m = 12.5
Christopher Knutson I see where you’re coming from. Wish we had one standardized system to avoid this confusion.
I wish India had these quality tracks....
Just run on the road
Been watching a lot of Nicks vids of late he’s really got back into my running which I’d neglected for maybe 10yrs. Even decided to purchase some Hoka Trainers as my old trainers have fallen apart. I’m very heavy at the minute 235lbs but I hope to be 200 soon..... That’ll make the running easier when I’m lighter and fitter 👍👍
Have you watched this channel - Mark Lewis? ruclips.net/user/MarkLewisfitness
I really like this guy (he's not pretentious like Nick Bare). He went from 300 pounds down to 200 pounds and can now run a sub-20 for the 5km (in his 40's). But he's really down to earth and provides practical advice for the average runner.
@@thepsychologist8159 Thanks for the tip I’ll be sure to check him out 👍
@@wayne3078 No worries. I think he's great. I love his British humour and wit, in addition to his personal experiences and practical advice.
New here but title got me. Last fall started overcoming running fears from childhood. Im similar weight (but skinny fat) and height. Like to break 25 (PR 25:19). Did break hour in 10k quickly despite never running 1 ever til 2wks ago. Glad to see a guy who isnt a string bean runnin this quick. Gives me hope. Thx. -U10
Last I ran a 5k run was 2 years ago during my school's cross-country . I remember my PR , 24 mins 48 seconds ... that felt very amazing to me . I never ran a long distance since that only short -distances like 2k . Now , I want to progress and slowly build up my way back to 5k runs
I'm also 195 pounds. It's not easy competing against guys 40 pounds lighter than me. Just ran a 28:50 (5:48/mile)for 8k on October 31, 2020. Keep up the work.
Those running shoes looks 🔥🔥🔥 ngl
2:37 man activated the turbo mode from loony toons
💀
I'm 27yo, 5'6 and 154 pounds. Just started running seriously this year.
Got a 5K PR of 27:45 so far, which i'm happy for, but i look forward to improving!
Man you're strong, hats off!! 🙏🙏....
"slight headwind on one side of the track" lol
Shit sucks running against headwind lol
Joe Cant i swear one side is always headwind and other tail? Weird
Joe Cant Carol Baskin runs a 15 minute 5k with a 40mph headwind
5K PR today, 24:39
WTF ,thats seconds accurate my PR
How do you set up you’re week when you’re training for endurance events? How much weight lifting vs how much cardio?
he has a video on this
A good successful fun. Nice to see the training pay off.
Way ta go with the PR. Congrats.
That's quick mate ! 🏁Good work 💯🙌
Do you have a shoe rotation? If so I'd love to hear it!
I am overweight and just started running in this july (covid lockdown)
Yesterday i did my first 5k in 41 minutes.. .. .i am happy with that
Good job bro that's very impressive. I came down to 82KG from 106 just by running. I am sure you will do that too :)
@@rajveerroy8459 thanks bro 😊

Impressive! keep it up Nick. Pure motivation for myself to push harder👍🏾
Loving the pink shoes 👟💕
My PB was 19:34 on a track near us at 185cm/80kg (6foot2, 170 pounds). Currently Training for the TransGranCanaria with 130km/80miles with 6.900vm/21.000ft.
Keep going guys, it's just consistency!
Hats off, Bravo!
I would recommend you to try the chest strap to check your real heart rate. 151 average seems too good for your breathing.
Thats no way he only had 151 :)) and getting such a good time in a 5k run. No way. But wrist hr sensors when there`s a lot of sweat, they tend to become unreliable, like 20-30 beats per min.
That’s fast as hell!!!
Colton Dufresne Not really 😂😂
@@qEnergize for his weight it is
Thanks to steroids let me see him do that natty
GUARANTEE you could shave more time off if you did this on a day with cooler temps or in the morning. 82 is hot!! Kudos for PR'ing with that
Are you from Scandinavia?
absolute beast mode, u are a animal mate!!! outstanding
After doing a little more speed work in regime I went from a 19:30 to a 17:41 and getting mt first 5K win at 6’1 and 205 pounds
