Contacted one of the largest manufacturers of AHP, asking them for details of a local installer. After an initial phone call i received a detailed quote for supply and installation along with order forms, all without even visiting my property. Needless to say I certainly won’t be using them or the manufacturer either!
I looked out HIES and asked for Heat Pumps near me. It offered about half dozen. As I looked at each, all were listed under heat pumps. When I clicked their own websites, only one actually mentioned heat pumps. Most were clearly into gas boilers. No mention of heating system design, heat pump experience, etc. So to me HEIS is of little value.
Some excellent advice was discussed by the panel, yet I still find it a bit of a stretch to be fully supportive of HIES. As a consumer protection body they fail those who are left high and dry when their installer goes out of business. Insurance backed guarantees are effectively of no use if you paid by credit card as they will tell you to claim through them. That said, the thrust of the discussion looked at some positive points for those considering entering the world of heat pumps.
Your points about the consumer codes are valid. HIES does seem to resolve issues effectively, but RECC continues to be a particularly frustrating experience for homeowners. Addressing the challenges around complaints is something I’m keen to prioritise in 2025, as it’s an area where real change is needed.

Easy to avoid a nightmare with a heat pump = don’t buy one = simple.
I'm guessing this is not the video for you, but good on you for taking the time to comment, I'm sure they'll appreciate the feedback.
