I made the mistake of purchasing a domain without the extra privacy protection. Seems like half of India called me over the next few weeks offering their web design services. Don't make that mistake. Pay the extra $15 for privacy.

Hello Oscar, I’m applying for a new broker authority but I’m listed as an officer in the articles of incorporation of a trucking authority. I’m listed as secretary. I’m not the owner or on payroll or anything like that. It’s not the same address or email but I’m the owner of the brokers authority. Is that something I should disclose?

Its tough, most markets wont take you. I would speak to our trucking insurance friends. They have helped broker/carriers get insured under the same authority. They can better guide you, setting up the USDOT & MC is not the challenge, its just the insurance part. Ask for Marcos: bit.ly/3HA8x9g
On minute 19 you were on the affiliation with others page. Now I have a question about the familial relationships we are a family owned business and we are opening up a brokerage bit currently have a trucking business will this hurt us even though different family members own and operated them
The hardest part about having a motor carrier authority and Brokerage authority, is that most insurance companies won't insure you. There are some that will if you have had more than 3 to 5 years of insurance history or you are a large fleet with small exposure on the Brokerage side. So with Fmcsa there is not an issue. The issue will be with the insurance markets.

The option you are looking for is: "I need an additional Operating Authority to my existing USDOT number,"

Hi Jarixa. I took some broker training courses myself on udemy.com . They do have some sales going on if you are a new user.
If you are new to the industry I would watch as many courses that are credible and highly rated as you can.

If you already have your motor carrier authority. You need to endorse your broker authority to your usdot. You would not do a new usdot if you want them under the same company. Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Do you need a separate UCR and an MC in order to have a freight brokerage or can you use the one you have as a trucker?
You can attach your broker authority to you current trucking company. However you will find a hard time finding insurance as almost all insurance companies won't insure a freight broker and motor carrier under one authority. I don't recommend it.

Hi Mrs. Sandhu, you need to get both the USDOT and MC number in order to become a freight broker. The 75,000 Bond activates the authority.

Hi Navjotmann891. Yes you can add your broker authority to your current USDOT. However you will find it difficult when it comes time to getting insurance. A handful of insurance companies do not allow it. Some do, I would check with your current insurance company and see if they will allow it first so you don't have your insurance shutdown. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi 678 Intergra. If you want to email me your USDOT I can take a look at it. You might have to submit a manual submission if you processed it all the way through. It all depends on which part, if you did it on the USDOT it will be much fast and if the MC needs to be adjusted, it takes a little bit longer but it can be done. should I have an LLC created before I apply for this?
Hi Shark, yes. You should have your LLC and EIN setup first. My team is putting up a video about that today. I always recommend to have someone take care of those legal documents as there are some specifics tax things you have to do per state.
How do we separate the 2 authorities properly when you already have a carrier authority and want to apply for a broker one??? Can we have both authorities with diferent mc # and different LLC and different EIN but same owner ???

Hi Jordan, one owner can not have to separate authorities with different entities. You would need to apply your broker authority to your motor carrier authority. I would shop around Insurance and speak to someone. Some insurance companies wont insure you if you have both authorities as a new broker/carrier.
