That's pretty good. Rats are commonly suspicious of new things. Fully mature rats especially. The Ulik Repeater looks like the ultimate and still the best rat trap ever featured on this channel.

Great trap idea. I think I’m going to try to come up with a trap with my boys as an activity/project.
Here I was, thinking of the line, "...& the 2nd mouse gets the cheese" when he tells us the other rats ate the trapped one. Of course they did, but I wasn't expecting that on this particular video. Ta-da! Surprise!

Definitely looks like the trigger line and spring routed under vs over interferes less with the mechanism. 👍
Nice trap. You could make the mechanisim a side by side duplicate with 2 triggers then you get a chance to catch 2 rats one on each side.
Nice design! Seems like it would be easy to make a double-barrel version by just adding a second spring mechanism and splitting the trigger pedal.
I like the mechanism and I wonder if it could be doubled. As in a separate spring and trigger for each side. It would be difficult, I imagine, to prevent one from setting off the other while keeping it sensitive enough to reliably make a catch.

Happens all the time with Rats and mice. There's been live bucket traps he's put up where mice ate each other.
Improvement? Maybe ultra-thin piano wire. heh heh

Seems a bit odd to leave a buffet out the other end once the one side has been sprung/occupied.... though it doesn't seem like the rats were as into the buffet on the other end..(what the actual heck..)

I like that you test out the traps, but I don't like whn you release the rodents. Do you know what mice and rats do to wiring? Probably not. I bought 1 of your traps and over the fall through winter I caught one! I live in the woods and sticky traps and poison works the best. Unsubscribed. Thank you.
Native get released a good distance away from anything, if it's like most situations, the native species are probably endangered compared to the invasive
Natives are released because they are the natural members of the ecosystem, i.e. food for the wildlife around him (& you). Introduceď are generally offed or, sometimes, kept as pets. The offed ones are offed because they skew the ecosystem & very often overrun it. I think Shawn found a fairly good balance in what he does, although my inclination is to off all of tjem. Hawks gotta eat, too, & anyone who's watched Nature programs knows the catch rate is pretty low.
