39:15 - "Where do you place the runners?" (on a caught ball) Doesn't matter...it was a double play to end the inning. Basically, the second base ump saw the catch and noticed that the runner going from second to third didn't tag up...the baseman then tagged that runner as he returned (recording the final out) and the runner in from first (as he was on the bag, he was technically safe). Hell, even if it wasn't caught, the second baseman tagged the runner before he was safe on the bag (in fact, isn't the ruling that, if two runners are found to be on the same base at the same time, the leading runner is called out?), so he'd be out and there'd be runners at either first and second or the bases would be loaded (if the runner on third stayed)...the runner that started on second was basically screwed either way.
With some of the awful umps that are out there, the rules really need adjustment to allow the batter himself to check with the base umpire on a check swing... At least if it's the 3rd strike.
Why can’t both umps at first and third see that foul tip …it’s like they are all lawyers and won’t testify against each other. Just work together and get the call right.
Can any ex semi-pro or pro ball players tell me what players/managers/coaches do when they get ejected? Do you just sit in the locker room til the game is done? Shower up and go back to the hotel or your home, depending on where you’re playing? Change into you civies and go sit in the stands? Go to the closest bar and have a few til the game is over? Maybe go shoot 18 holes? Just curious to what the protocol is…
Basically you go back to the clubhouse, shower early and do your post game routines earlier and watch the remainder of the game on the tv. Sometimes players might leave and go to the team hotel earlier if they are a starting pitcher and starting the game the next day. I don’t recall any player coming back to the bench after the ejection or going into the stands but it’s possible that happens too
Counterpoint: players and managers that bitch and whine about things not going their way have ruined the game. It's almost as if they don't know what would constitute an ejectable offense any more, despite those being in the rules...
"You CANNOT throw a guy out if he doesn't say a magic word" after the batter throws his bat and gestures toward the heavens as if to ask god himself for guidance on dealing with the injustice of being struck out seems like the announcer's equivalent of a john trying to defend himself in court by insisting that since she didn't SAY she was a cop, they have to let him go.
Of course, there's a funny little thing I found in the YT comments, and it's consistent with what Close Call Sports tries to teach everybody: I think it's attributed to Bob Davidson: "The magic word is 'you'."
Hell, which one of them was *still* arguing the call from several *minutes* prior? Pretty sure that, even then, there was an "unofficial time limit" in which you (as a player) could air your grievance without completely risking getting tossed...and if you're still going off when your manager is out there, your chances of getting the boot skyrocket.
I hate the Rockies announcers, every time there is an ejection they say something bad about the umpire like “just walk away!” Even when Hudson clearly gave him his say + more.
Some of these announcers (I know this is 2013 clips) need to go to an umpiring school like what Close Call Sports affiliates with. That first Dodger ejection was textbook continuing the argument and making it personal. Boom.
A lot of these foul tips that hit the ground/didn’t hit the ground, you can hear two bounces which indicate that it hit the ground and then the glove. That would probably be an easy way to call it. Unless you think it was a foul tip instead of it hit the ground. But it is a very hard call to make as an umpire, and when people say”check with the third base umpire” the umpire can’t see it easier than the HP umpire.
What do they expect...the umps to coddle them and just give that team the win? It's almost as if the rules and regs aren't required reading when you become a big league player in *any* sport...
I love when announcers say “just walk away”. Like what do you think is going to happen when they walk away? The player walks away too? I saw an example, it was a Reds game and Phil Cuzzi gave Will Benson a lot of time to argue, and Phil walked away and Benson just followed him up and down the baseline to the point where Cuzzi ejected him. Just a stupid argument, and I get sometimes umpire provoke arguments, but announcers say so much crap and none of them have been in the position of umpires.
JeremyIsTheBoss if you mean why did he toss him 1.) threw his bat in anger 2.) spiked his helmet and 3.) say what I’m sure was the magic words and argued balls and strikes. Can’t say for sure how he viewed the pitch from his angle, looks like it curved hard right after it passed where the pitch is normally called (tracer marks it once over plate, umpire normally calls as its gets to front of plate not over it)
Its amazing how many games one ump completely would blow back then.
Strasburg had so little control that Marvin Hudson decided to throw him out before he was going to kill somebody

every baseball game is Its own movie.
Greg Gibson, the home plate umpire
motioning to both players…
And the Dodgers celebrating in the dugout.

well ill be damn, the one at 22:33 WAS the right call! Tullowitzki really did hold the bag! I thought he missed it by a foot in real time.
Man....the announcers weren't paying attention at all at 16:35 .....................it clearly is deflected off the fans arm.
Baseball Announcers are IDIOTS!!! They have absolutely no Clue!!!
More than half the problem with umpires is the home announcers saying they're wrong.
The umpires have ruin the game of baseball !!
Amen to that
Counterpoint: players and managers that bitch and whine about things not going their way have ruined the game. It's almost as if they don't know what would constitute an ejectable offense any more, despite those being in the rules...
Baseball definitely needs a robot calling balls and strikes there's to much on the line for an umpire having a different zone every game

I love it when the players think it's ball 4 and decide to walk to first so that the ump can strike him out haha

The stupid announcer says the pitch to T.T. may have been down...really ? 🤨
Only thing bad about these is I wish I could hear what they’re saying
18:01. This rule is dumb, even if there is fan interference that shouldn't change anything in my opinion. It's not anybody else fault but the fan's.
So a fan grabbing a ball that wouldn't be a home run and removing it from the field of play should still count as a home run?
I wanna see a player or manager refuse to leave
I would think that they'd be hit with delay of game penalties until they either left or the umps just ended the game.
Players making millions and millions of dollars and still want to cry and complain!!! Makes no sense!!!
What do they expect...the umps to coddle them and just give that team the win? It's almost as if the rules and regs aren't required reading when you become a big league player in *any* sport...

Lance Diaz just loves to put his hands on players which is total BS because they cant touch the umps.
