Urine is produced when your kidneys filter waste and water from your blood. When there is too much waste in your blood and not enough fluid, waste can build up in your kidneys and stick together.
Tips to prevent kidney stones
1. It is vital that you increase fluid intake. People should focus on urine output and not on liquid intake. If you want to prevent kidney stones your urine output must be more than 2 litres every day.
2. Also, it is advised to increase alkaline liquid intake i.e., citrus fruits & juices as it increases citrate content in the body which is responsible for preventing stone formation.
3. Decrease the intake of other ions and minerals but maintain the intake of calcium.
4. It is said that drinking beer prevents kidney stones but it has its own disadvantages. Doctors advise you to intake fluids other than beer.
Foods to avoid for kidney stones -
• Oxalate containing food i.e., cocoa-rich products
• Vegetables like spinach, sweet potato, beetroot
