Sam Signorelli read your comment and since you have experience with the Kanstul Powerbore soprano how is it different from the nonpower bore? If you actually have played both. I played a Kanstul .470 with a slightly bent up lead pipe at the receiver. I played sop in April 2001 With the Phantom Regiment, at the time they desperately needed all the members I could get so I answered the call but I didn’t tour. It was so free blowing, wow. Fish line was all the first valve slide on, and it was falling apart need to be soldered and repaired but aside from the very very sharp first valved notes it was sound. Fish line or the first valve thumb crook would come off. I’ve looked at records and in the shapes of old Kanstul horns and I don’t see any built this way. Any ideas? Reguards Stephen
@@stephenpulver9720 I'm not sure there WAS a non-Powerbore. Powerbore was more the marketing name of the horn. The reason I bought one for 06 SoCal Dream (look up the show on YT...I have the first solo), was because everyone else in the sop line had one and I didn't want to cause intonation issues between 8 Powerbores and 1 K-20. Given that Zig Kanstul designed the K-20 I played in 84 BD, the Powerbore was probably it's spiritual successor. I certainly felt no issues playing on it. Easy to push air through, and what upper register I had (D above the staff) was fairly solid. Vance Hu (in this vid) is a fellow BD alum (91), and the fact that he got his mitts on a K-20 bell mandrell is awesome! 01 Regiment! Wish you'd made the tour...that was a GOOD show! Sorry about the sop you were on...a DEG, probably. They were definitely at the end of their service life, given that Regiment went Bb with a brand new set of Kings in 03. We babied our horns at BD, but the rigors of touring and bouncing around in a truck bay for 12,000+ miles year after year takes its toll.
@@samsignorelli There are big differences between a standard Kanstul soprano and a Powerbore soprano. First is the mouthpiece receiver and weighted sleeve on the leadpipe to focus the sound on the Powerbore. Second was the larger bell and more open throat on the Powerbore bell. The best of both worlds is to put a K-20 bell on a Powerbore leadpipe and valve block.
Hey Sam, Cool Post ! The US Marine D&B Corps JUST Switched (Valentine's Day, 2022) from 2 valve to 3 valve Bugles, yet they Remained in G. I heard it was really $ Expensive (They were made on old Kanstul Tooling?) Why don't they switch to Bb ?Forgive me, I'm a Drummer. Thanks! - TJ
I know I'm not a trumpet player nor a bugler but if have a question. I've gotten a contrabass g bugle as a gift. But I can't play some notes and scales as a Bb Tuba can. What are the notes a G Bugle can't play as opposed to Bb? I know a G Bugle can't play a Bb.

They even have 3 Valve versions that allow you to play it like a Trumpet

How tf did you get your hands on a King K20? I’ve been looking for a K20 for so long but nobody ever wants to give them up.
I have two K20's on hand. One is brand new (for personal collection) and the second one was completely overhauled by Kanstul.
