Robbie sings the entire song, including the spoken part. The lyrics are written by him and refer to his past in Take That. Your favorites sing backing vocals.
I really enjoyed this song! I know I’ve heard a couple of Robbie’s songs in the past….don’t remember any of them by name. I can never argue with hearing something new!! 🙂
Perfect, the day is complete! I know it's quite different, but I suspected you'd enjoy it. You've probably heard one of his most famous, "Angels". Have a great day bud 😀
Ooh, Robbie has some great stuff, my tops would be this one, Feel, Come Undone and Bodies. His videos were great too, especially this one, Feel, Come Undone and Rock DJ (that one's essential) He's the best thing ever to come out of a British boy band and he's been talking very sensibly recently about the ridiculous pressures young guys have put upon them. Thankfully he survived, and survived well... Oh, you have to watch She's Madonna as well :-)
Robbie and Gary Barlow of Take That had a difficult relationship during and after his time in the band, I think that gives a bit of context for this song. Thankfully they made up and even sung a song together about it, Shame... and I just realised all my recommendations are 21st C, oops
Oh, you just answered my above question. Well at least I can hear them on my own 😊 I should definitely read up more on his history as well as Take That's. Back for Good of course was played a million times here in the US!
@retroreactions.... Yes, that's their pre-split best song, they were very boyband in the 90s but much more mature when they came back in 2006, they hit a real purple patch, peaking with Robbie's return to the band, they're a great story. Back in about 94 I was on a canal narrowboating holiday with my ex, we were in Manchester and got waylaid and boarded by a tribe of street urchin pirates, and only escaped because we were able to name the boys in Take That (they were local boys), I guess that made us cool even though we were old. Phew, reading Smash Hits! every week was worth it after all.
His live at Knebworth performance of this, as well as the entire concert, is worth a watch. It’s not s stretch to say it’s one of the best live shows ever. Also, may like some bits off his Rudebox album. We’re The Petshop Boys and She’s Madonna are both homages to the PSB.
@@retroreactions.... Peaked in the 90s over here with 'A Different Class' Brandon. Dark sort of 'Gothy'. Different, but melodic. I loved that album and highly recommend you cover 'Common People' the longer album version rather than the one with the Vid. Surprised I haven't plugged it?
I'm a big fan of Robbie Wiliams' first 3 albums. He then did a swing album and come back for a 4th pop album. Obviously going into the 00s at this point. Back to this song, one of his best singles. However from this album I've been expecting you my 2 favourite songs are non singles.- Phenonix from the flames and these dreams. You should check them out! Worth playing first 2 albums in full though to be fair.
You might be surprised to find me saying that I love Robbie Williams but his early stuff was brilliant when he co wrote with Guy Chambers. They were a phenomenal team. Also, our dear Robbie is from my hometown area of Stoke On Trent in the Midlands and my wife worked with Robbie’s auntie. How’s that for useless info! The Divine Comedy are worth checking out as they are a bit quirky and best known for National Express - can recommend that one but best known for writing the theme to the UK comedy series Father Ted. Sorry if I have bored the pants off you. What about that finish as well All the best. Dave✅✅
Surprised a bit since you love prog rock, but not surprised because you have a great and keen ear for great music like this song 😊 Nice connection you have to him! I appreciate the watch, the comment and the info. You never bore me, my friend and music guru 😁 Enjoy the night!
Thanks for No Regrets! It's a real masterpiece by Rob! It's great you found this song and liked it a lot. Enjoy! There are A LOT of Robbie's songs I can reccomend you: Me And My Monkey, Come Undone, Lovelight, Karma Killer, The Road To Mandalay, Rudolph, Bodies... He is very talented artist and his back catalog is a gift for fans...and new followers ;) Check out the trailer of his new movie, Better Man ;)
You're welcome! Happy I finally included Robbie on the channel. Thanks for the suggestions. I will add your votes to my list for the 90s ones. Oh nice, he has a movie coming out. Thank you so much for tuning in!! 😊
@mattleppard1964 - I agree! I have his first two albums and his fourth and have always liked those a lot (and especially _this_ one), but I lost interest in his music with the albums that followed.
It’s Robbie doing the speech at the end, not Neil. That their voices sound kinda similar may be what inspired him to ask Neil to do BVs. The song is deliberately ambivalent because Robbie was really very ambivalent about the relationship the song is about. This song is about his relationship with the members of the boyband he used to be in, Take That. He left the band acrimoniously - they continue to disagree over whether he left of his own accord or was sacked by the rest of the band - and he then went on to have a massive solo career. So he can have No Regrets about leaving, but he did regret how acrimoniously it ended. If you listen to the lyrics carefully you can spot all sorts of ambiguities (‘they tell me I’m doing fine’ sounds like a boast at first, but is he really ok?? He was actually suffering from clinical depression and struggling with addiction, so, no!) He is all of sad, wistful, bitter, angry. He can’t let it go and move on even though he really should. Can you tell this is one of my favourite songs of his? 😊 The lovely thing is, Robbie and the rest of the band did eventually reconcile, and are now friends. So ‘Tell me a story where we all change, and we live our lives together, And not estranged’ actually happened. They wrote an album and toured together back in 2011, and they actually performed part of No Regrets as a group, with the tone of the song changed, because now they are friends they can genuinely have No Regrets.
Hello again! Wow, I've known Neil's speaking voice for almost 40 years and I can't believe I was fooled. They speak very similar, at least in 1998. Thanks for all that important info, gives great context to the song. Epic platinum award, clearly we agree on this song! 😊
Hey! Great to know. I'm sure I will revisit the album again here. I have added your vote for Saga's version. Wow, didn't realize it's 8:38 AM over there. You live WAYYYY in the future 🤣 Have a great day my friend!
@@retroreactions.... - Thank you, Brandon! Yeah, heaven knows why I'm awake already in the middle of the night!? 😄😉 SAGA's 'No Regrets' is a _different_ song, by the way. Thank you for adding it to your list! 😀👍 Another great album I'd bought around the same time as Robbie's was the self-titled one by Supergrass, from which I recommend you the Single 'Moving' 😊 Oh! And I'm pretty sure that's actually Robbie himself talking at the end of this song, not Neil Tennant! 😉
@@retroreactions.... - Very similar voices, so no biggie 😉👍 Neil's has a slightly softer tone to it, though 🙂 And nooo, it actually _was_ 8-30am here in NZ then! I was just joking! 😄 I'd found my bed only very late last night and had not expected to be awake again this early 😅
Not a big fan of Robbie Williams but this song is brilliant. You Should check out The Divine Comedy (from Northern Ireland) - 'National Express' or 'Everybody Knows That I Love You'.

Pure emotional 90s nostalgia with a most epic haunting twist towards the end! Thanks for watching! 🥰
It's certain that Robbie marked the 90s with beautiful English pop songs, I like it a lot.

A few bars early in that almost identical to sections in Pulp's 'Something's changed' from A Different Class.

It's about Take That's management, and one person in particular,as well as being (mostly) about Gary Barlow over and above the other members.
There's two Neil's in there. Tennant & Hannon.
The spoken part sounds NOTHING like Neil Tennant. It sounds exactly like Robbie.
