Yes! The mental fragility due to exhaustion and desperation for time off is powerful

    • @JorgePrietoNYC
      @JorgePrietoNYC 5 месяцев назад +7

Indeed. The mental and physical turmoil of the character in that film was not easy and Midler was believable in every scene. That final scene was heart wrenching.

    • @The70sChick
      @The70sChick 5 месяцев назад +8

@@JorgePrietoNYC She gave one of the most powerful performances in film history and the Academy did an injustice to her by not voting her the winner. All due respect to Sally Field, (also a phenomenal actress in her role as Norma Rae) Bette put her heart and soul and guts into playing Janis Joplin, (literally the definition of heart, soul and guts) obviously not a part just anyone could play.

Bette Midler has one in 1980 for the golden globe awards for the rose, 1992 golden globe awards for the boys, 1994 golden globe awards for Gypsy, Grammy awards 1974 best new artist, Grammy awards in 1981 for the rose, 1990 Grammy awards but I can't remember for what. 2017 for the drama desk awards, and so many more. Amanda McBroom is a singer/songwriter/actress who wrote it for Bette’s movie. She has a technically more perfect voice, although Bette’s version exudes more passion. Also cvered by Barbra Streisand, Lee Ann Rimes, and Joan Baez.

Some say love, it is a river
    That drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger
    An endless aching need
I say love, it is a flower
    And you, its only seed
It's the heart, afraid of breaking
    That never learns to dance
It's the dream, afraid of waking
    That never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
    Who cannot seem to give
And the soul, afraid of dying
    That never learns to live
When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong
    Just remember in the winter
    Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun's love

I ditto the drive-in experience; however, I was 10 years old. “The Rose” - the movie affected me greatly and the song is just so beautiful. I prefer Bette Midler’s voice singing “The Rose” over Janis Joplin any day. I attempt to plunk away at my keyboard, as a novice, trying to do this song justice but I am not quite there yet.
      Thank you for your share.😻

    Lyrics:
Some say, "Love. It is a river
    That drowns the tender reed"
Some say, "Love. It is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed"
Some say, "Love. It is a hunger
    An endless aching need"
I say, "Love. It is a flower
    And you its only seed"
It's the heart afraid of breaking
    That never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
    That never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
    Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dyin'
    That never learns to live
When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong
    Just remember in the winter
    Far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed that with the sun's love
In the spring becomes the rose

"The Rose" is a Classic Movie depicting supposedly the life of Janis Joplin ( and a few other famous Female Rock Stars of the 70's that many can think of that did "survive"). I have to say that Bette Midler was a "Top Notch" actress who played this role so greatly. Being A Popular "Rock n Roll" star seems to be difficult for many stars who seldom have any time to themselves once they have those "hit records", and being on call by Your Band and/or the Record Company would be a Great Demand. So, what about their personal lives and Love ? Ms. Middler does a class "A" job of depicting all this for us in this Movie. If You have never seen "The Rose", please buy a copy, and I will promise You that it will be in Your own private collection, "handy" to view and share with your Friends (Movie is intended for Adult Audiences)

I bought it recently it is great, I will be watching it every week or more, but not without a box of tissues, it is very emotional, Bette is so emotional in it, you can't help but cry yourself.
