You the kind that makes Hawaii great. God bless!
Nice to let the guys walking around take a look at the catch, appreciate the kindness!
Nice. Great job and nice to see your unselfeshness!
Braddah mahalo for keeping us transplants in touch with our Hawaii roots 🤙
Yessah aloha all day

Pole Bender 🎣 Love 💙 Da Big Island 🏝 Aloha oi ....
great video
this video is beautiful
Mahalo.
For bait, I used limu on a 15 lb leader.
Spirit of Aloha..Giving your " Catch " away..I grew up in Hilo..Did some fishing in the Canal ( when " Kimiville " was still there..but, most of my
fishing was on the " Hilo Breakwater " Spearfishing..and around the island..Puako, Milolii, Kawaihae...My Buddy use to go to Keauhou pier
and watch some of the " Local's " come in..They would give him some fish that they caught...🥰🤟
Wow, I grew up in Hilo, never knew Wailoa had Awa. Nice
Seahorses too 👍
and ulua swim up for the mullet
Someone left a comment the other day asking about the bait, but the comment was removed. ??? I got nothing to hide, I use the same brown limu that the mullet guys use.
@bigisleroller would you share where I can find the brown limu? I looked online for the best bait and it said dough bait. Tried that and no luck at all. I'd like to learn all I can about fishing this side of the island. So far I've just been able to catch a few toau, one moi and one papio.
@@youngenuf I usually find it in Wailoa pond. If nothing there, you can try Ice Pond and work your way down Keaukaha.
@@bigisleroller thank you for the reply! I will try those places. Hopefully see you there one day!
Is it true that you can't touch the limu with your hands when picking it or placing it on the hook?
@@panlasanitisoy just dunk and twist ! I remember my aunty showing me 30 yrs ago. Don't do it anymore but never forgot
Right on brah 🤙🏼
Yessah 🤙🏽
Aloha braddah, where do you harvest the brown limu around Hilo?
Love the videos BTW
Mahalo,
Usually got limu in Wailoa pond. If not, try Ice Pond or work your way out towards Leleiwi/Richardson's area.
Great video. You use floater?
Yes
How do you put the brown limu in the hook? Do you tie it to the hook? I didn't know there's giant Awa in that river, amazing. If I knew I'll be fishing in there when I was there 15 years ago. I caught small bangus (Awa)in the Philippines but never that big. Pound for pound the best fighting fish to catch. A lot of my friends in the mainland don't believe me.
You just dip your hook into the buck of limu, no tying. That is why when picking the limu you have to get the strong, good quality limu. I agree with you that the Awa is one of the best fighting fish, especially if they are jumpers. They are strong and are able to make long runs. I've seen a lot of people lose them when they bring them in from the first run and think they got the fish beat and the Awa takes off on their second run.
Mahalo brother 🤙
ONO 🤙
Nice action. You must have huge patience. 🤙🏾🤙🏾 you should get a GoPro on your chest, show the big reel screamahz those fish give.
Yah you feeding the community hes so stoked to grill that fish up cheeeee
Screamah
What you use for catch dat bradda ??!
what size hook you use catch these? Do you do the double snell hooks? I fishing for palani in hilo bay alot but my mom loves awa iv never tried fishing that park are the bites slow?
The bite is usually really slow. I use between a #5 to #1 O'doul, double snelled and I use the brown limu for bait.
That was a mean fight! What # test u get?
15 lb
Mono or fluoro?
@@landon4155 Fluorocarbon
Bro, There's cyanide in the ground everywhere there.
Including the water.
That said, I've hooked huge Omilu there.
Just don't eat um.
someone left a comment about the fish being dangerous to eat ?? Is that just someone trying to be helpful?
Dangerously delicious
