But the new ones are more like diamonds, they're translucent, tough and form under extremely high temperatures

This is a realistic diet because without eating physical food, Godzilla wouldn't be able to get enough to sustain him. In fact, the MonsterVerse version of Godzilla eats radioactive meat and absorbs radiation from the environment when that isn't available.
After all the rough battles that Godzilla has been through in his life I think he actually did deserve to have that power upgrade it's a good thing he actually got it
