Never been much into N gauge Will.....too small for me but I do appreciate that there are plenty of people out there that does like it. Nice video as always....cheers, John.
I am interested to see how this develops. Having model trains in Z, N, OO, HO and O scales myself, I can say that it is really nice being able to do so much more in a much smaller space with N and especially Z. I would recommend Kadee couplers if not already installed on your engines and rolling stock, as they are generally much more reliable than the Rapid style. Enjoy the new scale!
i have done this with my desks, my tips are get cheap monitor stands and drill holes in them for a tunnel and get some Peco foam underlay as the trains can be very loud on the desks and the foam makes the silent. Also don't go over the top I was going to get 1 train and have it going around the desks when i was working but now have about 20 N gauge trains
You could have an end-to-end 00 gauge layout but I think it would still take up too much room on the desks, even with minimum radius curves. Look forward to seeing the progress of the N gauge layout!!
I did come up with the idea when I was about 9 years old, so when I saw James May do an O gauge one a few years ago I thought it was brill (altho I don't think he used it very well). N gauge should be perfect for an office environment haha
That is a brilliant idea xD I too have just started N gauge now to go along side my OO gauge, great video will and I cant wait to see how to turns out :)
One thing to note about the mini trains range on the BCH website, they may seem a bit pricey but RTR 009 is very rare! Also I reckon one of the mini trains coal waggons would carry about 30 millions!
In James May's Man Lab book to accompany the series, he says the following... "The most popular model railway gauge is OO, but it's a bit small for transporting anything larger than peanuts and olives. A better bet is O-gauge (twice as big, i.e. eight times the volume as far as a coal truck is concerned), and G scale. The one we used for our Man Lab was O-gauge (using Bassett-Lowke rolling stock - now part of Hornby)." So it was O gauge. Trust me. Honestly. He says it himself!
a simple piece of floor board would be good for the removable bridge. im in the middle of doing my n gauge branch line just a 4ft x 3ft loop with sidings , good luck with yours cant wait to see it :)
i just thought, i would be surprised if you havnt noticed but ill say it anyway, if you have a simple loop at each end, and you need a decently length wagon train too haul the sweeties, the hole train might not fit on the loop, and before the end last wagons have got on the loop, the loco may already be getting off the loop. i thought i would mention it as its quit cramped.
Hi I have 2 suggestions for you: 1 do it in 009, (OO scale on N gauge tracks representing narrow gauge) it gives you the same turning circle but the wagons are larger and the locos more reliable. 2 whatever gauge you do it in you could lay the track onto MDF or something and raise it up about an inch of the desk on blocks allowing you to run wires under the MDF and you won’t have to have a gradient for the bridge. I hope this helps.
I did consider that but it seemed to permanent. The room the office is in will be converted back into a bedroom within the next couple of years you see.
I don't collect N Scale, but I recommend some locomotives to pull the sweets. 1. Graham Farish Class 66 2. KATO C44-9W Dash 9 3. KATO SD90/43MAC Very good idea!!! :D
I would go with N scale so then you can fit more in. The only problem is there small and easy to break. But if you like the size of ho and the track of N you can find hon30. Takes the best out of both scales and you get 2 foot narrow gauge.
you mean raise the railway above the desk? I think that would be too much work and require fittings to secure it to the desk. The office is only gonna be in that room for another year or two.
Sounds like fun. Being an N modeller myself it'll be interesting to see how you overcome the engineering difficulties. The farish DP1 is an excellent model, but can I also recommend the Dapol A3s and A4s?
there a little bigger, but someone out there built this G scale/G gauge, whatever you English people call it lego train, it was based of an American design
nice... completely unrelated by what kind of keyboard do you have there on your PC? looks interesting! :) you do know they sell mats for folks who want to use wheelie chairs on carpets? ;)
I want something like this for my University apartment dorm haha. Me and my mates share sweets all of the time so I think I'm going to ask them about it. Haha I sense that this idea was partially inspired by James May's Man Lab transport solution?
The way Craig was doing a puppy face when you mentioned the blue things
When ramps were mentioned I was hoping the gap between the tables would be crossed Dukes of Hazard style.
This is sounding excellent Will! Looking foward to seeing & hearing more :)
Never been much into N gauge Will.....too small for me but I do appreciate that there are plenty of people out there that does like it. Nice video as always....cheers, John.
A center-loco push-pull would simplify things, I'd imagine
Give these two an oscar! Great video. Need to invest in one of these N gauge railways.
This is the best idea ever . I love it
Sounds like a lot of fun, will be watching with interest !!! Good luck

the way to do it is T gauge! One MnM at a time!
Turkledurk wat is t gauge
A very, very small gauge of model railways...like...smaller then N guage
DMHDTrains - Too the everywhere it’s less than half the size of z gauge never mind N
Yes indeed!
Great. Looking forward to seeing how it goes. I got into n gauge last year, there are some beautiful trains available. Good luck with your choice.
Hi Will ,It was good to see how your set up to do the videos. Hope you guys had clean hands, lol. Hurry up with next part please, cheers.
I m modeling n scale (US) and I have been anticipating n scale modeling from you thanks!

Yay, n-gauge! Looking forward to seeing the set opened, the Farish class 150 is a great model.

I am thinking of starting an n scale layout and this was a real inspiration to do so I hope you return soon will! And possibly do n scale stuff again…

haha thanks for the comment! Hope u like the series!
A cool intro... I bet this will be a great project!
My god, I've just decided to re-watch this series and noticed that at 4:05 we both have the same glow in the dark witch sticker haha :P
a simple piece of floor board would be good for the removable bridge. im in the middle of doing my n gauge branch line just a 4ft x 3ft loop with sidings , good luck with yours cant wait to see it :)
this video was made a while ago actually - the project is actually quite well advanced and the coming videos will show this.

craig must be a good Dr who fan he has a cyber man and a tardis.
if you can get it I would suggest Kato Track because it provides the all in one track on roadbed system and is easy to work with.
Good luck mate. Can't wait to see the results
would the larger wagons not take up more room tho? As the loading gauge would be bigger even if the track gauge wasn;'t?

Very creative I have got to do it with my m gauge layout.
Intriguing project! Good luck.
0:05 - 1.00 is likea brand deal lol
thanks for the comment but the loco and wagons have already been bought!
Get a bookshelf that fits between the 2 tables, it will prop the track up and be handy for storage
a very good idea indeed and one I had already built into the plans :P
I'm sure you will enjoy the series!
I did consider that but it seemed to permanent. The room the office is in will be converted back into a bedroom within the next couple of years you see.
Put a shelf across or a plank of wood on top of the desks, and just bank the track up on the approach to the plank?
yes - they'll be coming up in later vids.
I don't collect N Scale, but I recommend some locomotives to pull the sweets.
1. Graham Farish Class 66
2. KATO C44-9W Dash 9
3. KATO SD90/43MAC
Very good idea!!! :D
oh wow - well I hope you enjoy this project as it develops then!

Just adding in that I can not wait for this new series
That sounds like a fun project haha. I tried bought an N gauge set but decided it wasent for me. I much prefer 00 :)
Haha great idea Will, good luck

The farish DP1 is an excellent model, but can I also recommend the Dapol A3s and A4s?
I've got the Flight stick from that range, brilliant thing.
it will be one giant loop rather than one length of track with a loop at each end.
thanks for the comment but I chose what I'd like to do the task before I even filmed any of this lol
thanks for the comment!
not sure - probably several weeks
its going to look so cool whens part 2?
great ideas and loved the open to the video i at to laugh, what would u call the line lol
You gave me a great idea... Oh and I think US n scale is smaller and kato looks really nice, I guess you would just need a DC system?
IC you have a Thermaltake Soprano case for your PC.
That Lamborghini is my wallpaper on my computer aswell!!
really cool can't wait till its finished
You should base it on a welsh slate mine line! that would be mint!
I'm thinking of starting an N gauge railway. Anyone have any good starter packs to recommend to me?
I too love chocolate m and m sweets! I even have a dispenser
hmmm interesting - thanks for the comment!
haha no but it was too good a bargain to resist - and it has given me some track and a controller.
thanks for the comment John!
probably several weeks from now - not sure really.
there a little bigger, but someone out there built this G scale/G gauge, whatever you English people call it lego train, it was based of an American design
After I build an 00 gauge railway I'm gonna do something like this to transport papers.
no lol he went and did one in O gauge before I got chance lol but I'm pretty sure this is a first for N gauge
Will part 2 be tonight?
All videos are made and edited using Adobe CS5
seems like a legit reason for a N gauge layout
the N guage starter set went up a few hours later but that's all.
am i reminided of the qi Christmas episode with the toy train carrying the sweets
I saw a Garden bud, any chance for G scale?
And all the stuff you need to move to do it can go on the bookshelf
N gauge seems perfect for a project like this.
haha lol thanks for the comments and yes my OCD means my hands are probably cleaner than a hostpital operating theatre!
Hey IC, do you have any plans to get an American steamer like a Challenger or somthing to go with your 2 diesels?
When's part 3 coming
nice... completely unrelated by what kind of keyboard do you have there on your PC? looks interesting! :) you do know they sell mats for folks who want to use wheelie chairs on carpets? ;)
ahhh yes! I remmeber that too! So it's nothing original then but definitely a first for N gauge I think.
all computers are dual-boot systems. WinXP/Win 7 - WinXP/Win 7 - Win 7/Linux Ubuntu
I want something like this for my University apartment dorm haha. Me and my mates share sweets all of the time so I think I'm going to ask them about it. Haha I sense that this idea was partially inspired by James May's Man Lab transport solution?
Love the idea might do it myself
when is part 2
the dmu will not transport food very well
Would think 00 would be better as it bigger?
When is part 2 coming???????????
I love the start!!
Thanks! I hope you like the other episodes too!
Sure do!!
can you do an office tour
Kinda reminds you of James May's Man Lab O Gauge Railway system. Suspicious.
when will u start the project
I suggest you make it a double-wide track so it can run in true MGR fashion.
I think it was O gauge?
Will, the mouse on your desk looked awesome. What mouse is it
when is next part gona arive on youtube?
Who I do the railway with!
James May's Man Lab is in order I think
