The brief time Bunnie was related to Cream felt in part like an overcorrection, but not without reason. I'm more surprised she wasn't in the main story of Genesis.

@@iceman92211 Still hung up on that? Also I feel as if you're referring to some of the creepy stuff from Ken Penders, which I agree, should not have been in there in the first place. But that dude was fired relatively early in the Archie comics line.
I wonder what the storyline would’ve been like had Ken Penders never won his lawsuit… Maybe Sonic & Eggman would have another “final battle” similar to Issue 50 and Super Sonic would have all his friends return to normal after the dust settles.
It’s not my favorite Sonic story, but it’s one hell of a good one. Archie’s a big old mess, but it does have in my opinion some of the best Sonic stories of all time. Same with STC. Fleetway’s Death Egg Saga is rad as hell
The last thing I can remember happing in this arc is that sonic, tails and Amy made a group of “new freedom fighters” and traveled the world after sally got killed did that have any resolution before the mega man crossover happened?
Well at the end so to speak silver went back in time and told them the traitor was sally acorn he's done it twice befor with rutor and antigone and he went with sonic tails and amy with the artic freedom fighters after finally finding a cure for the robotizer in the storyline with mecha knuckles sliver takes out mecha sally seconds befor everything went white and mega man came into sonics world with Dr wily
11:46 That’s not actually true. After the reboot, Sonic kept his memories, and with Nicole’s help, he had Tails, “Ixis Naugus” (now just Naugus), Rotor, Antoinne, Bunnie, and Sally all recover their memories. It’s just that due to the rebooted world, they had to reconcile that none of the things from the past could ever truly be “resolved”. Eggman also remembers everything because he was the one that got the Super Genesis Wave to misfire. Also, you read that right. Amy, Knuckles, Cream, Shadow, Rouge, the Chaotix, Big, Blaze, Marine, Silver, etc etc etc, all don’t know their old lives. They may as well be completely different people. And then the series was cancelled. THAT’S ARCHIE, FOR YA!
This really is the best issue of the original run... To give the later run credit though, I LOVE its adaptation of unleashed, and its world is so engaging. A fantastic little run with an actual ending! (there is an unfinished set of adaptations of the genesis games right at the tail end but the primary arc actually concludes which is a fantastic place to stop)
As someone who started mid-Genesis and more considers herself connected to the Reboot, it's like it took the highlights of what made Sonic good (Lowart's "the world is the main character" meets a Sonic that is more open to embracing its continuity).. and I love that. Sure, yes, the preboot had an unintended downer-ender. But if you consider some of the last issues can be almost like "everyone has lost something out of their own control" (Rotor's back, Sally's original limbs and free will, Bunnie's identity as the cyborg, Antoine's comatose state, Nicole's reputation and device), the reboot makes for a great catharsis. We see Sally under a king who isn't oppressive and restrictive, an Antoine who is more in-the-moment, a Bunnie who in spite of her homesickness brings togetherness, a Rotor who can be involved with his friends, a Nicole who was there for all of them instead of beint shafted. Sure, designs can be improved on, sure the personalities have shifted around. But after nearly 20 mainline issues and several more from Universe, Genesis does what Endgame couldn't. Set up a catharsis that Sally and her pals almost earned, and truly earned in spite of the intersection of Worlds Unite.
@@amesstarline5482 I think the only cathartic moment it was missing was something more between sonic and sally. There's a tearful hug feel that it really doesn't last long enough, especially after Sally regains her memories. The erasure of their relationship is the main thing that sticks out about that run and I'm just so bummed it got destroyed right when it was TRULY hitting its stride.
As a fan of Sally's dynamic with Nicole in the reboot, sure it's like a yank away to have a relationship recover and then pull away, but I'm glad she found someone that was more on her level. (In a way, Mecha Sally in preboot is one last "I want the world and everyone to be safe, before myself")
You know i’m glad people are starting to appreciate and understand that archie sonic. It wasn’t all that bad it had its lows but it had a lot of amazing highs.
Honestly, the Genesis arc has become one of my favorite Sonic stories, up there with the Metarex arc in Sonic X. I just like the stories that don’t shy away from really kicking down the heroes or leaving it off on depressing or even heartbreaking endings to a character relationships.
Dude. This comic was a HUGE part of my childhood. While I am in the US, I was just a kid. I didn't know much about the internet, and this comic was so fun and nice that I have kept it with me. Some pages have fallen out, but it's a footnote of me being a fan of Sonic.
I remember reading this comic as a kid. The visual of Sonic realizing Sally had been shot, with the broken goggles on the ground, right as the genesis wave goes off was so surreal, like "Holy shit, they actually did that". Archie Sonic went hard, and I'm still so pissed at Penders for ruining it.
Before I watch this video I better get out my torch and pitchfork just in case. Don't think I ever forgot your friend LS Mark telling Cybershell straight to his face on LIVE Television that Sonic Heroes has a better story than Adventure 2, and you agreeing with that statement.
SEGA should really consider bringing back the Freedom Fighters into IDW. You could say they’re old friends of Sonic to explain why they know so much about him, which makes sense given they were in Spinball. If Sticks and the IDW characters can be canon to the games, I don’t see why that shouldn’t extend to the Archie guys as well
@@10001vader If the Freedom Fighters were owned by any third-party, it'd be WildBrain, who currently has the rights to DiC's Sonic cartoons. That said, it's been known for years that Sega of America owns the Freedom Fighters, at least in their OG forms. Archie only has the rights to anything new they created for the Freedom Fighters, so, any plotlines or biography not originating from SatAM, or redesigns, for example. Nicole can't be a lynx, Sally's dad can't be named Max or Nigel, and the post-SGW designs can't be used, but if Sega ever wanted to build upon the SatAM cast and reintroduce them into IDW or the games, they can. They just don't have any interest in doing it.
Can we take a moment to talk about how insane the super genesis wave is in terms of powerscaling? Because if you think about it, the archie sonic comics had an entire multiverse going on with evil counterparts, universe-destroying beings, and a zone police trying to keep everything in order. And the Super Genesis wave completely rewrote all of it. It didn’t do just that, it also dragged the Mega Man universe with it, and entirely different reality that operates on entirely separate rules and overall had nothing to do with each other. Pretty sure that in terms of powerscaling it’ll be an Omniversal or Extraversal feat (Sidenote: it also is a shame these crossover comics ended up negatively affecting the mega man archie comics, their run ended abruptly with so many unresolved plot points and the only thing left being a vague blueprint of what they wanted to do)
i think it's even more insane that fucking mammoth mogul powers up to basically being a god for reasons i can't be assed to explain, to the point where he can literally crush *entire universes* with his fist. like every other "mammoth mogul becomes a god" story he's defeated almost instantly, this time by a bunch of tails combining and becoming buff. stuff like this makes me think that any thought behind the powerscaling in archie is basically non-existent tbh so i tend to just not think about it.
@SplashDash_ Have you ever heard of Archie Sonic Online because that is where a group of Archie Sonic Fans got together and made their own continuation of the Archie Sonic Story.
My first and only comic was when I had an Amazon Kindle and before Archie and Sega discontinued their partnership I read the Silver Saga, it was a very simple comic but nonetheless very memorable, really hope the games lean towards that level of story from now on
Sonic funnily enough, can _never_ catch a break, can he? i think i may have been a little too harsh on Sally and freedom fighter Fans, they really deserved to come back, IAN did the most jaw dropping fixes I've seen done in a comic, and the fact that it all never got to properly end on a good note is so, so sad...
For me, it's gotta be a three-way tie between black night's story, metal virus arc in idw, and scrapnik island, idk there's just something about those story's that just made it my favorites, of vourse archie has really great story's too, but these 3 story's are just my absolute favorites
the second half of archie sonic ( basically anything after issue 159 ) is my favorite thing from the sonic franchise seriously the amount of great characters and great stories from archie made me really enjoying it while reading it and also made me think about them for a long time after reading it and because of that i love it more than any sonic game or cartoon and its not about nostalgia because i started reading them only 2 years ago ( and it was after reading IDW sonic ) archie has the best world building and the best stories and its characters are the most realistic and relatable ones ( yeah i know they are flawed people but that is what makes interesting )
Never read Archie Sonic but for all the flack it gets I really really like the IDW stories. Metal Virus is still one of my favorite Sonic stories ever. The concept of Sonic having to "keep on running" to keep himself alive is such a cool idea that fits perfectly with his character.
Metal Virus actually started out as a planned storyline for the archie book. Bringing Ian Flynn on as the first lead writer for IDW worked really well to give the comic a strong start
To be honest there are a few Archie Sonic stories that CLEAR IDW’s best, including the Metal Virus saga. I seriously recommend you give mid-late Archie a try if you’re a fan of Sonic comics. And maybe check out the early stuff if you feel like you need extra context for lore and a few important events. It’s especially unique because it pulls stuff from a bunch of different material and concepts from all over the franchise and mixes it into one continuity.
I loved this mecha sally arc, it really tugged on the hearstrings. I use to read the beginning of the arc to the halfway point as a distraction when my dad passed away around that time. Small win for me since I hated Sally Acorn but sad that they never concluded the archie comics in a proper way. (Nor did the Sonic underground comics finish the show’s story so rip)
I cried when during the Sonic and Mega Man crossover, Mega Man shouted: "I was never book smart, I'm money smart, Makes me more intelligent, Call me Mr. Rock festival, I got hella bands, Shorty cute, and her circle too, Told her get a friend, She gon' make me slide with my dog, like I'm Mega Man." Truly the crossover of all time, I can't wait for January 7th to hit.
Imagine the world, where instead of frontiers; the first sonic game written by Ian Flynn adapted this story line, and had sonic meet his friends for the first time and slowly begin to remember his past life; remembering events up to sonic and the black knight. But however, Sonic can’t set everything back, and eventually learns to keep going with what he has rather than chasing what he doesn’t, and leaving the past behind with his new friends to look towards the future.
@@iceman92211 Dude, what is your problem? I see this reply under every comment in this video and it has literally nothing to do with the story at hand. I had these comics too, but as separate volumes The prologue wasn’t in any of them, it started with Sonic in green hill going “where am I?”, and I had no clue what he was talking about. So when I got to issue 3, I had no clue why out of nowhere, Sonic got tall and knew he had to save Sally. Then I read Sonic genesis, and I was like “hey, issue 3! Wait, why is the opening longer? Hey, why doesn’t Sonic go to save…” Then Sally died. I was SO confused.
Instantly captivating, emotional, action-packed with the heart as a precedent to make it mean something.. But it's all on the friendships, and even relationships that hinge on the free spirit of Sonic that make it work. We will never get any of it again...
To be honest the whole Eggman screwing up Sonic’s attempt to destroy the Super Genesis Wave and causing his parents to be PERMANENTLY erased would have been a justifiable reason for Sonic to just straight up kill him. I mean all of the people he lost and have met in the pre reboot universe are gone including his kids from both Light and Dark Mobius
It's a tie between the Metal Virus saga and Sonic 06 for me. The scale, the epicness, the cast, the villains, the everything really, I adore these 2 stories
This comic is after Ken Penders left, a fairly large reason for the genesis wave was to get rid of his characters. So none of his art, the really skinny and kinda weird looking art, or any of his plot lines made it in.
One word for this whole development. SADFACE. But in all seriousness, I had a lot of love for the Archie series, even through all the insanity it endured. It was around for the longest time and admittedly I grew out of the series before this exact point given how out of control it had gotten. I wish I could go back and remain conscious of the series but I guess I don't entirely regret it. The latest iteration is still a blast from what I've read.
Hey Mark, did you see the fan comic that continues past where the reboot would’ve happened? I think you’ll REALLY like what they did with the Mecha Sally plot!

Without being Sonic's girlfriend, we all know that Sonic belongs to Amy lol I want her to be the group's best friend.
Just so you know there actually is a fan continuation of the original Archie Sonic comic that picks up right where the original series left off. It's called Sonic the Hedgehog Online, and you should really check it out if you wanna see what happens to mecha Sally and stuff. It's a really good continuation if you ask me.
Genesis' ending is really good, but the arc itself is kinda mid, honestly. We're right in the middle of an invasion and the return of the Death Egg, and retelling Sonic 1 and 2 is what we want to be doing? If I'm being real, this feels like the first time SEGA stepped in and said "Sonic 4 is coming out, do this", I doubt anyone in the creative team actively wanted to revisit the games with the least story in the whole franchise. My personal favourite issue is 175, where Eggman comes along, kills everyone, and then kicks Sonic's ass. There's even a moment where you think Sonic is going past his limit and turning the tide, only for Eggman's armor to still be just fine. And then Sonic just has to sit there, among the wreckage, and realise he's failed. It's powerful stuff. Overall, I'd still say IDW is better. It's what I want when I think "Sonic comic", Sonic characters going on Sonic adventures. The OCs take less space and fit much better into the world. Dr Starline (a character based on a glitch from Knuckles' Chaotix) taking over the Eggman empire using the Sonic Heroes cores just feels more natural than Eggman's A.I. son infusing Tommy Turtle with nanites to make him stronger than Ultimate Life Form to accomplish the same thing. That being said, Archie has a special place in my heart for allowing the staff to do things they could never do nowdays. Like make the characters cry. Can't do that anymore. Sonic is dehydrated.
@@iceman92211 iirc I rmb them entering the ship, going against silver, sally dying & after the world was painted white, the next few pages were a bunch of ads for issues, + a bit about eggman winning by painting the world white the next issue (which was genesis iirc lol) it was literally the prior issue lmao

@@iceman92211 I don’t see how Silver Sonic’s name would cause confusion as everyone calls Silver Silver, or Silver the Hedgehog. If anything, the word Mecha Sonic creates more confusion as Mecha Sonic was the name of the robot from Sonic & Knuckles.

This comic freaking rules with how it tells it's story especially with that awesome ending. I'll probably never read through Archie (that's probably One Piece levels of story beats I'll have to go through to actually understand everything) and I have become very attached to what IDW does even with the flaws I think it has but I will always appreciate this piece of Sonic history for being so daring and drastic all the way up until they had to cut it off and start anew.

It doesn’t deserve any appreciation because it has girls with no clothes
Honestly, the Genesis arc has become one of my favorite Sonic stories, up there with the Metarex arc in Sonic X. I just like the stories that don’t shy away from really kicking down the heroes or leaving it off on depressing or even heartbreaking endings to a character relationships.
And you like stories that feature females with no clothes ?

Those comics were never good to begin with due to Sally’s lack of clothing.

SEGA should really consider bringing back the Freedom Fighters into IDW. You could say they’re old friends of Sonic to explain why they know so much about him, which makes sense given they were in Spinball. If Sticks and the IDW characters can be canon to the games, I don’t see why that shouldn’t extend to the Archie guys as well
Sega doesn't own the Freedom Fighters. Archie does. After the fiasco with Ken Penders, Sega isn't going to go anywhere near characters they don't own.
Pretty sure that in terms of powerscaling it’ll be an Omniversal or Extraversal feat
(Sidenote: it also is a shame these crossover comics ended up negatively affecting the mega man archie comics, their run ended abruptly with so many unresolved plot points and the only thing left being a vague blueprint of what they wanted to do)
i think it's even more insane that fucking mammoth mogul powers up to basically being a god for reasons i can't be assed to explain, to the point where he can literally crush *entire universes* with his fist.
like every other "mammoth mogul becomes a god" story he's defeated almost instantly, this time by a bunch of tails combining and becoming buff. stuff like this makes me think that any thought behind the powerscaling in archie is basically non-existent tbh so i tend to just not think about it.
For me, the best Sonic story has got to be Scrapnik Island. And no, it's not just because of Mecha Sonic (though it's a decent part of it, lol)
Easily the best Sonic Story has to go to Sonic the Hedgehog's GameWorld.

archie has the best world building and the best stories and its characters are the most realistic and relatable ones ( yeah i know they are flawed people but that is what makes interesting )

Stay away from those comics because they have girls with no clothes there
To be honest there are a few Archie Sonic stories that CLEAR IDW’s best, including the Metal Virus saga. I seriously recommend you give mid-late Archie a try if you’re a fan of Sonic comics. And maybe check out the early stuff if you feel like you need extra context for lore and a few important events.

Truly the crossover of all time, I can't wait for January 7th to hit.

Then I read Sonic genesis, and I was like “hey, issue 3! Wait, why is the opening longer? Hey, why doesn’t Sonic go to save…”
Then Sally died.
I was SO confused.
