This is one of the most fun yet effective shots you can do in pickleball. Although it can be a difficult shot to do sometimes, I'm going to give you a basic version of this shot to start out with.

Great video Bret...you have a way of explaining things so well, starting from the basics of a shot to its' completion. The slow motion videos help show the development of your shots. Thanks

Great video for drilling. I botched this shot a few times last night. Just couldn't quite get the flick I was wanting, so I think I'll take a step back and use the garage door approach until I'm more consistent!

Is it possible to practice that on your own (e.g. without a serve machine). Like at a wall?

I have only seen this with 4.0+ players. - When you show up at open play it's usually bad drives into the net or people who don't drop or dink. Now I have a two handed backhand block so I do this roll two handed as well

I see why squatting is esssential to delivering this shot and you might have to lunge if the ball is farther away. Appreciate the multiple camera angles from both sides of the net, plus slow motion. Thanks, it does look like fun, and rewarding as well.

I tried this shot today, wow! I can't believe that it worked! it was difficult mentally as my back hand sucks. I don't know if I had a continental grip, as I usually have one finger out straight on the back of the paddle.
    Totally cool!!! thanks! :)

Awesome, I'm glad you tried it. There's no going back now!

Other than the mechanics of the two different shots (roll and flick), explain when you'd use one versus the other and why

Nice video though I do think one thing is a bit off. Following through up and over your head is likely too far. Otherwise you can't get back and ready if the shot is returned. Look at how Ben Johns does it. The follow through goes up about head level but still out in front so he can return to his ready position.

This shot is an anomaly. Most players will never drill this
    Love the videos

In the tennis I am not a string driver so I drive the ball a little bit different. He drives the ball off with the back of the paddle brushing from low up to high with the tip pointing out more to the side fence, and I drive it with the paddle all under the bottom of the ball with the tip facing directly at the net so in tennis I have the racquet tip under the ball and facing at the net because that's the direction I want to pronate the ball in and then I swing from low up to high and just turn the handle over as I finish. That works to hit allow me to drive in tennis but when I try this with a Pickelball paddle it works I get the pronation but the pickelball bat couldn't handle the stressload because of the way that I transfer all my weight into the swing on the backhand and the bat snapped all in half on me just after six hours of play. So I am not sure if I can put all of my weight all behind the ball like I do in tennis because of what happened to the bat.

good video, how is that gearbox paddle working for you? Has the finish come off there yet?

Gearbox paddles are the best ones I've played with. The finish has gone nowhere, it's been great.
