I would like to take a few cuttings from some plants on the property. Can i just use some of the soil that the main plant is planted in to start a cutting?
You can try it but I doubt that it will work. Buy a small bag of seed and cuttings compost it's not expensive. Now is an excellent time to take cuttings. Take them from where the branch is semi-hard. Good luck.

Take a cutting from new growth in mid-summer AFTER the plant has finished flowering.
