@woodencoasterfan Cont. The way I suggest we take action, is that whenever we visit a park with a non-operational band organ, ask the operators to shut off the CD and turn the band organ on for us, and if they don't know how, teach them how, and tell them to pass the information on to their coworkers along with a warning not to use the CD player so they'll know how to operate the organ too.
@CeilingUnlimited375 It was fun to ride it when I was there, but sad to see the organ just sitting there. I'd really like to see Cedar Fair restore their organs at al their parks. To me, a opperating organ adds a trmendous amount of atmosphere to the surounding area.
Funny thing... the organ has new drumheads and a freshly polished cymbal in this video. Apparently they still play it but only for special events like NCA meetings.
@whoisthisguy724 I never understood why any carousel opperator whould have a band organ at the carousel and not run it. This park, King's Island, King's Dominion, and Busch Gardens Williamsburg all have carousels with band organs that aren't opperating. I went to King's Dominion last year and was really hoping their Gaviolli organ was working. But of course, it wasn't. I'm just glad Kennywood, Idlewild, and the Merry Go Round Museum in Sandusky keep theirs opperating.
Have you known of the Kiddie Herschell Carousel and the Frontier Carousel? There was once two Carousels in this park that made Cedar Point have four Carousels.
I have several recordings of when the organ used to work. Its sounded great, but had one pipe that was a touch out of tune. I also remember what the Carousel looked like before they restored it. I don't care for how they did it all up in gold paint. from what it used to look like. With that said, this Carousel is my personal favorite...of course its the very last Carousel built by Muller, and will be celebrating its 100th Birthday in 2012! Truly a very rare National Treasure!!!!!
@CeilingUnlimited375 I hope with it being 100, it will be ACTUALLY restored, no crap like they did in 1994. Especially the band organ. It NEEDS to be restored!
@Buzda And lastly, the most ridiculous (and somewhat humorous) part is that even with DT being enclosed, it can't even be operated while it's raining! Wouldn't it be more cost effective to plug the structure's leaks than allow the elements to make contact with the coaster?
@whoisthisguy724 I wonder if they've been taking care of the guts inside the organ. It would really be nice if they played the organ when I was there. It was such a shame to see it just sitting there with a speaker on top of it playing band organ music.
@petermackett37 I agree, why not go the extra distance and do a full restoration so it works instead of just buying the organ and let it sit there rotting away.
@CeilingUnlimited375 I remember as a kid seeing the gold paint job in the summer that they were repainted and thinking to myself, "Wow, that was lazy". If I had millions to blow I would donate it to have these carousels restored to their original colors and have all of the organs playing again. Sad, Cedar Fair probably has enough money to refurbish these pieces history a million times over.
There are organs like this over here in Britain too standing in the centre of rides doing nothing!,surely it would be better to have them restored than just rotting away,i will never understand the owners of these rides!
@woodencoasterfan Because Cedar Fair thinks that because they shell out millions every year for new rides that they couldn't afford $25,000 to restore a band organ! Heck! That's like pocket change to CF!!!
@whoisthisguy724 Amen! CP has become notorious for neglecting their smaller attractions in favor for the current year's next big crowd drawer. Just look at Disaster Transport: They blew over 4 million to enclose Avalanche Run and only after a few years they stopped maintaining the special effects and has unintentionally become a poor man's Space Mountain.
It's an even bigger shame they just keep the organs sitting there for no apparent reason. They won't tune them and run them, but at the same time they won't sell them! I would gladly buy their organs, and at least if they would sell them, they would actually get used!

I went to CP, Idlewild, and Kennywood this year. I really wanted to visit the Merry-Go-Round museum while I was in Sandusky, but we were sorta rushed for time to head on to West Mifflin/Pittsburgh for our next hotel. (Wow. From an Econolodge that was pretty well-kept to a FABULOUS Hampton Inn!) -
I sure wish they played the band organs at CP and the Artizan D/Wurlitzer 103 at Idlewild... I have NEVER heard an Artizan D in real life. Same for a Caliola and a 153, along with EUCLID BEACH PARK'S VERY OWN NORTH TONAWANDA!
This ride looks like fun.
@woodencoasterfan It looks like they do take care of it. They do play it for special events.
@woodencoasterfan The park still plays the organ for special events (specifically the NCA meetings)
The outside horses of this carousel were standers also it was originally five rows but only four rows operate.
I love Merry-go-round music!

It was called Hurley's Hurdlers. The Hurley family owned the Hippodrome on Revere Beach

That band organ looks similar to hurdy, except without the shutters.

This isn't even a 153 playing in the CD! It's a 146!
Here is some more info on it and an original image. www.gapingmediahole.com/blog/tag/revere-beach/

It Had Standers Horses?
It still has standing horses. The difference between standers a jumpers are that standers do not move up and down like jumpers do.
Lol

Mldway Carousel
Not only is the organ in terrible condition... The horses!!!! What on earth kind of paint job is that??? No contrast at all!
They ruined those poor horses' colors by just lazily painting them! I would have loved to see their real colors. :/
