Ridiculous missed opportunity for a Williams multicade. The full-size arcade cabinets (which have been around for years) include Defender, Stargate, Joust, Robotron 2084, Bubbles, Splat, Blaster, and Sinistar, with a control panel template perfect for all games in that lineup. All they had to do was duplicate that cab. Instead, they slapped Defender art onto their Midway legacy lineup, which is a nonsensical hodgepodge of unrelated games from multiple publishers and eras and no unifying control scheme, and called it a day.
Robotron will be on the Smash TV/Total Karnage cab, perhaps next year. Then they can release a proper Williams Multicade after that. They know Robotron will sell so they ain't introducing that title on a Legacy cab.
I was really hoping Arcade1Up would release Robotron 2084, Defender, Stargate, Joust, Sinistar, Smash TV, Bubbles, and Root Beer Tapper for this holiday season. I would have paid a premium for all of those in one cabinet.

I have the MK3 cabinet the button layout for defender could have been an easy fix by just doing a few things. add 1 extra button near the joystick and remap the smart bomb where the reverse is currently at. and the added button near the joystick is now reverse. This new button can be tied to the old button configuration of the smart bomb. Then have the programmers allow the controller use the left side only. It seems dumb to make a Defender cabinet with inadequate button layout. I find that my thumb accidentally hits the hyperspace when reaching for reverse
At this point just release a cab with art choices at one single time. Midway legacy cab for instance. Just have it available in any art style thats on the cab. Cause I'd have done Rootbeer Tapper esthetics.

Certain games need the original control button layout, defender is definitely one of them that’s why I passed on the rampage cab and I’ll pass on this on as well and is why I ordered the defender partycade which does have the correct control layout
I think 450 is reasonable, given that you're getting 12 games, a riser, AND a lighted marque, as well as a cabinet shape that looks more like what you would've encountered in a full scale machine of this type. This Defender cabinet will make a nice addition to the home arcade. That Galaga machine looks pretty sweet, too. Now, if we can just get that fourth stim package. ;)
With this Defender cab, Arcade1up has now made official cabs for each of the top 10 arcade game cabinets sold (worldwide cabinet sales) of all time with the exception of Donkey Kong (#4) and Galaxian (#9 but hey…Galaga is close enough). Would make for a pretty epic section of the home arcade having them all in a row with some signage detailing the history of each. 😉👍
Why so many comments about the art? Central for me is gameplay and quality of the controllers. Button layout is no deal breaker for me, so long as it works well. I had lots of fun with Atari 5200 Defender; it obviously wasn’t set up like the arcade game. Also, I assume the monitor will be good.

I wouldn't have minded it so much if it was just the kickplate area, as that could even be easily covered with a coin door decal or something. But to "contaminate" the side art with it? wtf.

Unqualified Critics, I REALLY wanted a Defender cab back in the day, but Arcade1up waited TOO LONG to release it (as they did with Q*bert if they ever release that one) as I now have to be VERY selective with room. If they can ever release a Defender countercade with both Defender and Stargate and the correct button layout (and decent monitor, of course), I'd get something like that. Paperboy still mystifies me on these legacy cabs when Robotron would work so much better with the duel joystick setup. Oh Well. I'm still glad you covered this as the Defender cab looks SO AMAZING! If they were to add in Robotron, they should keep Wizard of War, since that game is really great with two players (i.e., another game that takes advantage of the dual sticks).
@@Emolga6274 It only uses two sticks when two people are playing. i.e., instead of each player taking a turn at the controls like most games of that era, the 2-player in wizard of war is co-op play.

Artwork, riser and games make it very interesting.. Solid game lineup, paperboy on joystick is a bit wacky but the game itself is still awesome, it's a give and take with pretty much all 1ups. I would've been all in if Outrun cab had it come with Sega Rally, but buying to mod instead of just playing the OG on saturn hardware or coinops just doesn't justify sometimes the lack of games or weird controls. The lineup on these Midway cabs seems pretty awesome. $440.00 is decent, just puts you in a weird spot to hold out for deep discount at Walmart or FOMO into getting it str8 away.
Love you covering this stuff but I am bummed if this is a redone Midway Legacy cab. The tight control panel and shorter height eliminate these for me. Love the game list too but I’m 6’4”. No fun having the top cut off. Appreciate the creativity by A1Up. I won’t spend adult money on a cab built for kids though. I’m stuck at two for now. 🙂
@@petermacnab1871 There’s pros and cons to everything in life. Sometimes my height works against me. Especially on these legacy cabs and their spin-offs. Don’t have that issue with my Ms. Pac-Man or Golden Tee which work great. 🙂
That Williams cabinet is a Waste. Williams have a cabinet that have 6 games on it. Why can't they just copy that cabinet how hard is it. Why they keep making these combo games with the Same games from before. Are we dealing with humans or Robots. Smh, a waste of time. And the Buttons are Super Wrong.. I rather them come out with a dedicated Defender Cab with Just Defender 1 & 2 on it but having the buttons mapped out like the original Arcade machine!!! The way they have this is not ideal?? The buttons are suited for the other games & not really Defender?? It’s sort of like What Rampage was!! Now with these Legacy cabs all they are doing is swapping skins?? If you have the Defender Skin on that machine the buttons Absolutely have to Mimic the way it was on the original arcade machine!!! I’ll Pass on this one!!
Defender works great wit this set up actually . Are u suing your left thumb for reverse button . I think most people don’t realize you use the left hand for both going up and down and reverse button
@@Emolga6274 The problem with this button layout, as I have been getting better with this game and the biggest problem with this layout is the close approximation to the hyperspace. there are so many occasions that my thumb hits the hyperspace. Reverse is so important to the game to maneuver. when your left hand is puling down on the joystick your reach changes and will accidentally hit the hyperspace. It would very close if they remap the smart bomb button to the reverse add 1 button near the joystick and assign it as the reverse. then have player 1 and 2 use the same controller. The problem, space on the control deck is so tight i don't think its possible to squeeze the 1 extra button.
Great video.... Now to Arcade1up... What next final fight 12-1 capcom cab with the same games list as before? Lol, you got to be kidding me! If Arcade1up is going to do this, give a games list that havent been published on previous cabs! Love the art work for defendor but if you already brought street fighter 12-1 capcom cab early, then what the point in purshace this one? For the artwork? My suggestion would have been, introduce this 12-1 variant at CES/CS 2021 where I could've gone on Arcade1up site and choose what game/skin I wanted as the Marquee title, so the buttons lay out could final match games that can be include with the title game! But this is it! What a freaking joke, first it was price hike with no head up and now you want trick the public with this garbage 12-1 that been repeated twice all ready!

you can't play defender without the proper controls .It's the worse game to port over, unless the manufacturer makes a proper control deck, even pacman sucks unless you use a joystick. I don't know of any game console that can truly give this game a true feel on how its played. This game is insanely hard and completely impossible with the current hand controller line up. You're judging the game incorrectly.

Totally agree about the kick plate. Definitely a nice looking cabinet, but space is limited in my game room. I wouldn't waste a spot on this.

They didn't fix the deck on the legacy cab. Doesn't bother me but should have raised it.

I agree, Paperboy is a great game, I just never got used to playing it without the original arcade controls. Glad you enjoy it :)

They can get rid of wizard of wor and Tobin and add robotron
If they were to add in Robotron, they should keep Wizard of War, since that game is really great with two players (i.e., another game that takes advantage of the dual sticks).

@@Emolga6274 It only uses two sticks when two people are playing. i.e., instead of each player taking a turn at the controls like most games of that era, the 2-player in wizard of war is co-op play.
@@jpears1100 well it doesn’t matter , I have legends ultimate arcade machine and I got a usb on eBay that has like 1000 games on it and it has robotron and what’s good is the controlled are already programmed to the 2 sticks

Artwork, riser and games make it very interesting.. Solid game lineup, paperboy on joystick is a bit wacky but the game itself is still awesome, it's a give and take with pretty much all 1ups. I would've been all in if Outrun cab had it come with Sega Rally, but buying to mod instead of just playing the OG on saturn hardware or coinops just doesn't justify sometimes the lack of games or weird controls. The lineup on these Midway cabs seems pretty awesome. $440.00 is decent, just puts you in a weird spot to hold out for deep discount at Walmart or FOMO into getting it str8 away.

I have the wave one Rampage Cab and Mortal Kombat Cab so I’m good. Paying $450 for a Cab with a game that is unplayable (Button Layout) no thank you.
Love you covering this stuff but I am bummed if this is a redone Midway Legacy cab. The tight control panel and shorter height eliminate these for me. Love the game list too but I’m 6’4”. No fun having the top cut off. Appreciate the creativity by A1Up. I won’t spend adult money on a cab built for kids though. I’m stuck at two for now. 🙂

@@petermacnab1871 There’s pros and cons to everything in life. Sometimes my height works against me. Especially on these legacy cabs and their spin-offs. Don’t have that issue with my Ms. Pac-Man or Golden Tee which work great. 🙂

That Williams cabinet is a Waste. Williams have a cabinet that have 6 games on it. Why can't they just copy that cabinet how hard is it. Why they keep making these combo games with the Same games from before. Are we dealing with humans or Robots. Smh, a waste of time. And the Buttons are Super Wrong.. I rather them come out with a dedicated Defender Cab with Just Defender 1 & 2 on it but having the buttons mapped out like the original Arcade machine!!! The way they have this is not ideal?? The buttons are suited for the other games & not really Defender?? It’s sort of like What Rampage was!! Now with these Legacy cabs all they are doing is swapping skins?? If you have the Defender Skin on that machine the buttons Absolutely have to Mimic the way it was on the original arcade machine!!! I’ll Pass on this one!!

Defender works great wit this set up actually . Are u suing your left thumb for reverse button . I think most people don’t realize you use the left hand for both going up and down and reverse button
@@Emolga6274 The problem with this button layout, as I have been getting better with this game and the biggest problem with this layout is the close approximation to the hyperspace. there are so many occasions that my thumb hits the hyperspace. Reverse is so important to the game to maneuver. when your left hand is puling down on the joystick your reach changes and will accidentally hit the hyperspace.
It would very close if they remap the smart bomb button to the reverse add 1 button near the joystick and assign it as the reverse. then have player 1 and 2 use the same controller. The problem, space on the control deck is so tight i don't think its possible to squeeze the 1 extra button.
I'm buying it just to mod it lol

What next final fight 12-1 capcom cab with the same games list as before? Lol, you got to be kidding me! If Arcade1up is going to do this, give a games list that havent been published on previous cabs! Love the art work for defendor but if you already brought street fighter 12-1 capcom cab early, then what the point in purshace this one? For the artwork? My suggestion would have been, introduce this 12-1 variant at CES/CS 2021 where I could've gone on Arcade1up site and choose what game/skin I wanted as the Marquee title, so the buttons lay out could final match games that can be include with the title game! But this is it! What a freaking joke, first it was price hike with no head up and now you want trick the public with this garbage 12-1 that been repeated twice all ready!

Arcade one up sucks. I bought the Galaga one and it stinks. They use cheap buttons and joy sticks. Save your money.
Defender is s boring shooting game I bought it on Xbox 360 Galaga is the best I don’t buy arcade 1 ups for their looks of the cabinets that’s what arcade 1 up is doing right now instead of releasing new games they are re releasing the same games over and over I’m done buying Pac-Man galaga street fighter turtles centipede space invaders marvel vs cap on burger time mortal Kombat many more they keep on repeating there is over 700 arcade games arcade 1 up only released 100
They really need to knock it off with all the fighters / beat-em-ups they keep doing, imo.
you can't play defender without the proper controls .It's the worse game to port over, unless the manufacturer makes a proper control deck, even pacman sucks unless you use a joystick. I don't know of any game console that can truly give this game a true feel on how its played. This game is insanely hard and completely impossible with the current hand controller line up. You're judging the game incorrectly.
