Every piece of equipment has a story! Well said. I still have a lot of unused eastern bloc stuff. Other interesting stuff is sadly way too heavy for shipping. Like huge dc power supplies for up to 200 volts and 10 amps :/ Oh and nice to see the Meratronik Meter in the background! One of my first (and not so successfull) repair attempts. Mistakes were made. Best wishes!
@@IanScottJohnston Mayhaps i can source some vintage GRUNDIG Testequipment Made in (West)Germany for ya next time. Back in the days, they've made good equipment. Today Grundig is just a "brandname".
Would you consider the likes of faulty Peak Atlas gear, most established repair/authorities won't touch these, (agreed, their warranty program is 1st class anyway), your thoughts though Iain?
All my test equipment tells a story, chapter 1 is I should have been a weight lifter. I've a few that need repair, but are too heavy to send. Plus they have a "round tuit" attached to them 🙂 the HP 2465b Universal Bridge has had one on the longest, but Marconi 2018 i need to fix as i want to get playing RF with + very heavy(about 16Kg). 🙂
Somehow you should get this repaired equipment to schools or individuals who are starting out in electronics and cannot afford to purchase the necessary equipment on their own.
You're right about crazy prices. I recently saw an ad. where someone was asking £350 for an original rubber-keyed ZX Spectrum. I want one but not at that ludicrous price.
Thats expensive even for an Issue 1...... I bought a brand new one 1981 I think it was, Issue 1.5 I think it was known as. Had an Issue 2 Pcb, but had the dead cockroach IC (not the transistor).
Ebay prices for test gear caught my attention too, justifying some very time consuming repairs to my Hameg scopes (intermittent issues in the blanking circuitry). Was hoping to track down a reasonably priced RF signal generator but second hand prices are scary! I miss the good old days of physical auctions, liquidation ones in particular!
@@SpeccyManFrustratingly, they would seem to be a rarity in my neck of the woods (NE Scotland). I did happen across one at RAF Montrose a few years back but sadly, test equipment was in short supply. I’d love to visit a decent hamfest!
I have a signal generator that I can't fix because of riser cards and stuff but I want it working again its a 'WaveTek model 112" The Triggered VCG version I have the paper manual its dated 1966 a good year as I was born then ! the problem is Harmonics, lots of them and because of weird connectors I haven't seen before I have no access or way to make a riser so It kinda got pushed down the 'things to do list' I have nearly finished the front panel refurbish and she looks gorgeous, you know from a time when you had big Aluminium Knobs and switches ! it's all in one piece maybe I could send some pic's and talk some time ? lets see how your appeal pans out ! great stuff Ian a nobel act indeed sir !....cheers
I don't have any test gear that needs fixing, but I do have a Fender valve amp that needs repairing. It's a 100 watt monster. I've never looked at it because there's lethal DC voltages flying around in there! I'm in Aberdeen.
My last guitar amp was a Fender Supersonic 22 combo.......best amp I ever owned. Hacked it of course!......added a pot on the back to control the effects loop volume.
Ian, I pasted a message to you here on Sat am as the Capcha thing did not work for me, I saw it there as I pasted it but now it's gone. Could you please talk to me as I have masses of stuff to donate to your efforts. Thanks

Anything that you typed onto the form only you can see, it's not visible to anyone else. Probably a browser issue at your end. I have given away a couple of scopes in the past (one digital, one analog) and am always willing to give away other test equipment.
There is no one cannot buy TMI now with Chinese cheap productions ...

almost as much per rubber key as the whole computer cost brand new haha
I think that seller will be disappointed

How about HAM fests, if there are any in your area? They used to be a good source of gear.
Well, certainly here in NE Scotland I don't know of any, albeit there could be......but it's the more rural end of the UK here for sure.
