Tanglang La On XPulse 230: The Most Challenging 40 km Of My Life | Delhi-Ladakh Day 4, Part 9

- Tanglang La, at 17,480 feet high, is an experience to cross. What accentuates this experience is the beautiful road leading to it from More Plains - fast, two-lane highway, surrounded by the desert and the mountains afar.
Doing it on a small bike is exhilarating - you will end up losing some power and it turns into a little bit of a challenge. For me though, it turned out to be the most nerve wracking 40 km of my life.
My custom built, big bore XPulse 230 was just in a mood that fateful day (August 26, 2021), and it seemed would die any moment mid-ride.
The road was decent, my bike kept climbing - would not be beyond 35 kmph in 3rd - I didn't dare to take it to the fourth - but just barely.
For the first time on my bike, my mental fortitude was tested, I'd say. It would keep stopping, the fuel started running very low (no petrol pump for another 100-odd km), the seat became unbearably tough to sit on, and the cold was getting to me.
Giving up was not an option - though the thought did cross my mind of several occasions that if my bike actually gives up here, do I even have the right clothes to survive the night along, roadside.
Thankfully, my friends rode alongside me, compromising their own riding pleasure. And that is what kept me going. I will always be thankful to them for that.
But, the day has still not ended. We have reached Rumtse and Leh is still 100 km away. It is time to take a call - do I carry on or do I stay the night. Watch the next video to know.
I will be doing multiple videos on this trip, and in a sequence. Here's the video before this one for context: • When AMS Hit Tushar At...

"There is nothing like the feel of riding a validated engine" This is deep!
Exactly
What is a validated engine? Definition?
The engine from the OEM without any AM mods
@@csourav01 thank you for explaining. I also thaught it would be something like this.
Give us like an hour and we will still enjoy it as much as our favourite movies . . .
I usually watch ladakh rides to appreciate the beauty and various ways motorcycle riders present thier story . For the first i am watching a ladakh trip to see how and if abhinav is doing ok . Damn...
:)
The way everyone slowed down for you and were riding behind/alongside you was amazing to see.. whole series we have seen Yudhvir flying.. when needed he slowed down and was riding behind you.. memories.. next time you guys talk about doing Ladakh they'll lock your xpulse 🤭
Hahahhahahaha
These experiences will become once in a life time memories and you and your friends esp yudvir paaji going to cherish throughout your life ..... very well done boss 👍👍
Thanks, Mudit :)
Bro, the struggle you had been through in this trip, we 'your subscribers' can actually feel that. However, hustle pays off and you must have felt relieved when it actually paid off.
Oh, yes. And I am glad for all the support that you guys have shown.
Yudhvir is definitely a great friend, but everyone should have a friend like you as well for the kind of gratefulness and respect you show towards them. 😊
:)
Every evening I always had the eagerness to find out what you are up to.... So keep it up😊👍 we are really looking forward to you... Also it's dreams for many of us.
Thank you, Thoungamba :)
Man it feels like m watching a web series 😂❤️...if u upload a video of more dn 4 hrs m still gonna watch it without skipping...ur videos are just addictive❤️❤️
Love from Assam ❤️
Thanks bro
Also me
I think your decision to take the xpulse made your trip more interesting and adventurous, of course considering that you have your friends behind your back. There should b a big disclaimer not to try a solo ride on xpulse with big bore mod. The condition are extreme and with night falling, things can turn really hard quickly. I just hope you were able to enjoy or may be experience the thrill to the fullest😃. Turing our to be a ride of a lifetime.
I loved riding to Tangalng La. So much more rewarding than Khardung La. My Classic 500 was also losing power but nothing serious though. Fun to see that this was evening. I rode last week and it was snowing at 12 or 1 in the afternoon. Absolutely incredible terrain. Just magic everywhere one sees
Can't help myself from the like button. Keep going sir. It's all part of the experience . I m sure this will be your most memorable ladakh ride.
Thanks, Daniel :)
Man! Yudhvir is an guardian angel 🔥
I have been into this situation while riding my 150 cc avenger with my buddies who were riding thunderbird and highness… constant fear of engine fail and left out behind alone… :D
but this the real adventure and u learn alott you grow… it becomes memorable…cant wait to see proud feel moment of yours in further parts…
You chose the right bike i believe… it has become the reason i have been watching this series regularly
This series is better than many popular OTT series.
If you don't have a Yudhvir in your life, consider being someone else's Yudhvir!
Mann hats off to you, you are like an inspiration for so many others. When u said u feel like he is not enjoying his ride and babysitting u, that showed you got a good heart. I hope this makes u smile.
Yes, brother. It does. Cheers
Just take the Enfield 500 there and enjoy the low end torque, make sure it's PROPERLY serviced and lubed. FUEL pump filter should be cleaned as the red interior protection of the tank in the Chrome 500 tends to peel of.
Abinavji correct information u said about 4valve head xpulse.!!👍
✌️
Ive said it once and f it ill say for every video this the GOAT of ladhak leh series on YT and its not even close
:)
Yudhveer did ladakh even before it was cool, BTW I was only 4 when yudhveer conquered it
The idea of taking an Xpulse is absolutely amazing .. neither did the bike gave up nor you... Its very hard to survive for humans in some thousands ft. And that just a machine.. 🔥🔥 and the one who's leading it is you.. bc you didn't gave up... Hats off to you Sir..!!
This particular content was extremely amazing...
Thanks Suwang :)
Hats off to you. Its just one hell of
a ridr but worth memorable
You should have taken a leap of faith on your bike and stopped at Taglang La. The full 360 degree view which you get from Taglang La is unmatched according to me in entire Ladakh region. Agreed Chang La and Kardung La are higher in altitude but they dont have that massive valley view which this one has.
Got relieved when at last u reached the homestay.
Inspite of all the difficulties the bike is still running which shows how much worthy the xpulse is. A low cost bike from hero to suite all the bikers.
Hey Abhinav,
Another gr8 vlog. Its what I call, "Raw footage", showing us exactly all that you're encountering, as it unfolds.
So, Yudhvir's Himalayan didn't face any issues on the stretch? I mean like you - lack of power, stalling etc? Sure hope you were able to enjoy the ride, none the less, despite the issues.
Keep the vlogs coming. These will help us in planning our trip too. Stay safe & take care!!
Two major issues with the Himalayan cropped up during this ride. I will do a sit down chat with Yudhvir about his experience and the challenges faced.
I have to say this series is very engaging, loving it 👍👍
:)
"Keep a Positive mindset, you are screwed anyway"
-Abhinav
you're a great guy - would love to have a friend like you..
I have seen many Ladakh vlogs But yours been a real struggle thanks to the ecu job bochup on higher altitudes.... But the preservance and grit during this struggle is commendable.... Many would have just given up but you just kept going where others wouldn't really have..... It's inspirational for sure
Thanks buddy :)
❤️❤️. So much of engagement throughout the video. Now this has become. Abhi agle part mey kya hoga 😂😂
most mature ladakh moto vlog ever seen just raw no utter bullshit
Thanks, Anuj :)
Plot twist :
Abhinav wanted his ecu fail so he could ride slow and enjoy the view 😜😜
The views were stunning, so...
What an experience
Great video
I had a similar situation with the engine running too rich while I was riding in Nepal. I realised that with fi engines rolling back off the throttle, and downshifting caused the most problems. I kept the revs high on every gear and it worked for the most part. Hope you find something that works for you.
Thanks for sharing.
This struggle is real
Just getting a vibe, that once you return from the trip, you will give a thought of buying Himalayan. Xpulse for trail rides and Himalayan for touring.
That chal padi chal padi..was best moment.
at the end of the series can you make a proper video of what actually happened to the bike?
Coming up day after.
@@abhinavbhatt nice!!
Awesome!
Back in 2003 I faced same issue with my STD350, I can feel your pain bhai..
You still remember that day. And I will remember this for a long time. These are good experiences.
Hatts off to your patience level.. .. if i would be on your side i would have throw this bike from the mountains.. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Patience is a virtue my decade and a half in a newsroom has taught me.
@@abhinavbhatt amazing bhai❤️❤️ have a safe milesss
Your FANS from Mizoram👍
Chal Padi At 4000 plus rpm 😂
Looks real hustle bustle 👊
I realised I was 1 when yudhveer completed the circuit. Damnnnn🔥💯. However, seeing abhinav bhatt, again hitting like.🌚
Your bike reminds me of my Honda Activa low on petrol.
The more i see the more i became you fan avinav sir..... ❤️
if there is no smoke from behind then it running lean , needs to run richer at that altitude, i believe .. also the colder fuel does not help.
Your laddakh trip is looks like surviving trip more than enjoying trip...😏
Damn very hectic!
Moj hi kar rakhe h bass...loving this series😂👻❤️👌
That is why the old school bullet 500 carb, with heavy crank is best for this route, plot into 4th gear and forget about all your worries. .
I want to do it on a cast iron 500.
Level of calmness👍
Was waiting for that blog…👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What a journey... Epic videos🔥
Those cast iron bulleters must have struggled more
Man! I could feel the struggle you were having!! Is there something wrong with the sprocket :O
Nothing wrong with the sprocket.
Ditch the fi system , and fix a re carb and fuel tap to take you back...
You'll see soon what I did.
I wonder how a Two stroke will perform here?
This is starting to feel like an episode of Top Gear.
Plugging your own show here? Hahahahahha

What?
@@abhinavbhatt there is a cartoon ninja hatori, he used to do ding ding ding ding the same way you did it at the beginning of this video 😂

@@yoyoshubhamsingh Oh, I've heard of this. But had no idea. Back in my day, cartoons were Masters of the Universe, Justice League, Centurions, Top Cat, Tom And Jerry, Johny Quest etc. The golden age of cartoons.
Have you done Gramphu to Batal ? Starts from Manali - Kaza route
Yuddhvir is G.O.A.T.
Only fitting that he calls the XPulse "bakri" 😂
@@abhinavbhatt GOAT is an acronym which stands for Greatest Of All Time.
@@vvkmn05 yes, I do know that :)
@@vvkmn05 😂😂 you cared to explain GOAT to Abhinav cracked me up, he's more updated with the acronyms than most of the teenagers nowadays
@@viankit1 My teenage cousin recently explain this acronym to me . Before this Goat means bakra in my vocab...
It’s great you spoke about mindset Abhinav. Would you have done this trip solo? Given the challenges the bike and journey is throwing at you? What would you have done then?
Yeah, I would have attempted it solo had I not known how the bike would start behaving at the passes. I would still want to do it solo once, but only after fixing the bike up. And in dire situation, I will just leave the bike wherever and take a ride till a hotel and come back with a mechanic/recovery truck. Money/bike not worth more than my life.
Slap a turbocharger in 🔥
Real world doesn't really work that way :)
Finally yo came bro 🔥
Although the bike gave you hell, the silver lining was you got to really experience Laddakh's terrain by going slow. I pray that you never get hell like this again from a bike. Now even I'm feeling bad that I asked for you to review the big bore Xpulse on highway
It was an experience. I am glad what happened, happened. But if you think this was the worst part of the trip, wait a couple of more days.
One you get back to Delhi can you please upload a video about what was the major cause behind this behaviour of your bike...
Coming up day after.
Tuners from where you sourced your aftermarket kit shud hv been considerate of varying geographic conditions of India ......ecu fucking up bcoz it's made to work at sea level is no excuse...shud hv pan India capabilities....that's why the car cos test their vehicles in all varying condition before releasing them in market.
My two cents ❌
See, the map is for a race bike. It is not meant to adapt on its own. It locks down the numbers that you feed in. It is not the tuners fault. It is nobody but my oversight that I did not think of it in the first place.
What is that orange light constantly blinking on the bike? Is it some engine warning
Its like you're a protagonist in a movie Abhinav da. we see a bike on the verge of failing, and you in a constant stress.. but we still root for you and your bike to make it till the end. Saying that, next time please do the trip with a stock motorcycle.
Thanks buddy :)
@@abhinavbhatt arey don't mention it dada.
Ouch, that engine sounds like it's about to Seize. I'm wondering if you'll buy a Himalayan too post this experience?
Why was his bike doing this? Because of the high dence atmosphere and low oxygen present in it?
I'm wondering if my CRF250 Rally would have done any better at that altitude.
Oh yes. If Honda launches the 300 here, I will try it for sure.
Ding ding ding DING DING DING DING : Abhinav bhatt.
😂😂😂
just a thought, how bad of an idea is taking an r15v3 to ladakh😗?
Abhinav- i will start ok , because will take time .
Xpulse - Arre , abhi hum band hain . 😅😅
Hahahahhahahaha
Himalayan is like sharma ji ladka who aces every exams. X-pulse is like sharma ji ka doosra ladka who......🤭
missing ''Hi guys I am Abhinav''
its like watching a thriller webseries
Abhinav you can ride anything now.
You can ride anywhere now .
Yes. I felt that after my Jibhi ride earlier this year.
Dude I just came back from Leh today(currently iam in jispa). My 2011 wagonr has done tremendous job,,, no power loss(my wagonr only loses powen if ac is on😂). Given 18+ average. Covered 1800+ km and climbed 6 different passes 11 times in less then a week. Without any problem.(i think a proper service is all you need.)
👍🏻👌
Bro I can't find bend pipe
From this video i learned never modify ur engine waste of money and valuable time !!
Your bike feel so tired
How did the Himalayan performed overall??
Apart from two issues, fantastic. I will do a detailed video on it.
@@abhinavbhatt ok,will wait for the same
boy I can't even imagine the carbon buildup inside the cylinder you will find when you reach home!! should carry a propane tank to top-up the bike once in a while with oxygen rich air lol
Will get Atul from Speedmonks to inspect it soon.
That Barney reference 😂😂😂
True, ain't it.
I thought u were imitating Ninja Hattori
This could have been a webseries 😂
Have you tried making some holes in air filter? This ride is worth way more than that crappy engine.
I first tried to remove the air filter. It was suggested to me that I should make holes in the air filter. Watch tomorrow's video to know more.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Did u check your sparkplug??
Yes. I changed it. Things did not improve.
@@abhinavbhatt how was the carbon? Was it black? It ought to be

It was painfully unsettling to watch this video ngl
I originally wanted to upload the entire clip from Tanglang La ascent till we reached Rumtse. You would have been terribly unsettled then.
