Guys, Italian indeed for colder days because corn heats up the body.. the American version is just basically milk in there. Would you like a new gig? Add "homemade" rice powder instead of cornstarch and taste all the difference. 😉👌
I love how each country has its version of hot chocolate. In Mexico its made with a chocolate and sugar block. For the liquids we use milk or water. The taste is much more floral; In some parts of Mexico they even add spices like chilis, cinnamon and vanilla. Its very reminiscent of my childhood, yet I'm dying to try the Italian one. I'm 100% sure ill be able to knock out like 3 cups since im a serious chocolateholic.

As an Italian, I can testify that we also have a proper chocolate pudding/custard tradition on top of the thick drinking chocolate Emma makes in the video. But that is generally served cold as a dessert or mid-afternoon snack.
I made the Italian chocolate today...it’s amazing. You really have to eat it with a spoon and it really is more of a desert than a drink. A shot of this will cure any sugar cravings for sure
I recently made the Italian hot chocolate and it was so good! It's just so good!! I made a little too much, so I put it in the fridge to drink the next day, and it became more like a Italian cold chocolate, but it was just as good. I almost liked the cold one better! Super refreshing and chocolatey!! 10/10
Italian hot chocolate is just to die for. It's like it was meant for my palette. Literally like drinking a melted chocolate bar and oh my goodness, I turn up in heaven for those few moments.
I tried the American version, and it came out so addictive! I used 52% cocoa chocolate and got such a lovely taste of the chocolate in the drink ,the hot chocolate had a deep chocolate flavour but was at the same time very light to drink!
@@mistressx4096 That makes no sense. Both use the same type of ingredients. In each serving, the Italian version would actually yield more calories due to higher count and amount of ingredients (cornstarch, chocolate, and cocoa powder). The difference should be around 100 calories per serving from more chocolate. So unless you plan to drink two servings of the American version per one serving of the Italian version, there is no fattening here. If anything, the Italian version should be fattier from the additional chocolate per serving.
The Italian chocolate is just slightly more caloric. It's not like if there are more ingredients then it's automatically more caloric x'D It's not about the amount of ingredients but what the ingredients are. Like, a salad with one type of vegetable is not less caloric than a salad with 100 types of vegetables.
Italian. In an espresso cup. No need to have a full cup (8 oz) worth. Half a cup and the chocolate is unbeatable in the Italian hot chocolate with a pinch of cayenne. Yum!
I'm Italian, I eat a full-size cup of Italian chocolate with whipped cream on it and a little bit of cocoa powder on the top for a break in the afternoon. The American hot chocolate in Italy is usually drunken in the morning with biscuits and it's called just milk with cocoa powder.

Hey Emma I’ve always wanted to try this Italian hot chocolate 🍫 and I did today as a beginner in the kitchen this was very easy and delicious 😋 I definitely do agree on the fact I can’t finish the cup to be honest I thought I would but no it’s pretty thick but delicious you’re awesome and very helpful to me
I went skiing in Italy once, and the best part of the day was always getting back to the hotel and having a hot chocolate. It's so thick and rich and creamy 👍👍
So both are good looking as I love chocolate, but as for a hot chocolate I have to agree with you that the Italian recipe would be more referred to as a pudding here in the states. Personally a thinner version does it for me as it goes down the throat quickly and smoothly, thus warming more of the body up in a quicker amount of time and allowing to make room for more.
I made the American one tonight, and it was really good! I’m looking forward to making and tasting the Italian one next. The American one was very rich and creamy, and a small serving was just right.
Some Italians prefer not adding the actual chocolate to the mix tbh. I know many just use cocoa and corn starch. The cocoa (which is in bigger quantities compared to the American one) already gives it a pretty strong flavor and the corn starch does it's thing in thickening it. The chocolate is put in there if you want to be REALLY indulgent, but it's not necessary and it definitely makes the hot chocolate way too heavy for many stomachs lol.
Wow I haven't tried the Italian chocolate but I think I would enjoy it because I love dark chocolate and you are right there is no such thing as too many marshmallow's lol
I want to try Italian hot chocolate. My best recipe is to melt dark chocolate Reeses in hot milk. No added corn starch, but you have to stir in between sips.
The Italian is my fav! To me that’s what true hot chocolate is, American hot chocolate is good, but it’s just chocolate milk. It’s mild to me. Once I tried Italian hot chocolate, it was the best night of my life! It was a strong, dark, hot chocolate 😋 I love dark chocolate! I really felt connected with my heritage lol.
In Mexico we have a chocolate that in English is called Abuelita Chocolate and it’s manufactured by Nestlé. Basically this product contains 6 tablets (wrapped individually), we boil the milk and then we introduce the tablet so that it melts (I usually put like 1-2). Some people use a less corn starch and use an egg yolk instead. Makes it a little more silky. Just have to know how to temper correctly, otherwise scrambled hot chocolate.
