    I couldn't believe how great Vince Vaughn was in this movie. I was hooked as soon as he tore that car apart with his bare hands.

      And looks like he's actually trying to take more serious and dramatic paths, with this, True Detective, Hacksaw Ridge, and The Forgiven. Makes me really happy because his roles here are so much better than his comedic roles where he usually just plays himself.

    Vince Vaughn is definitely that era talent that could've been so much bigger. Probably one of the greatest actors of a modern age, but saddles himself with such up and down movie roles. Like, great physicality but also has the natural acting wit to be a modern Bill Murray

      @acouelfoly 5 лет назад +3

      @@amsheel9921 Yes S2 is underrated as much S1 is overrated. To me S1 was outstanding technically and had an atmospherebut story and characters were not that interesting with a lot of clichés. From S2 I only remember the party house scenes and the relation between Vaughn and his wife. I remember thinking this relationship was original for this genre : they were both as strong as the other. They were equals and this was trully beautiful and particularly touching in the end

    • @SCharlesDennicon
      @SCharlesDennicon 5 лет назад +1

      True Detective s2 is almost the opposite of s1, quality-wise. It's a mess in its first half, then there's the time jump, and from that point, it gets better and better and better until a spectacularly bleak ending, while my interest for the arc story of s1 faded away in the second half after a stellar beginning, and I found the bland outcome to be an utter disappointment.

    Might be my favourite film of the decade. Almost everything about the film drew me in, including small details like the gloves that the revolver-wielding Don Johnson is always wearing, and the use of stairs as a symbol of Vince Vaughan's descent into hell to save his family. Couldn't have enjoyed it more. Craig Zahler setting amazing scripts to grindhouse films, FUCK YES!

      That's your personal opinion so I'm going to tell you that your opinion is wrong. But I disagree and think that Marvel's worst movie is better then most of the DCs movie with Wonder Woman being the only exception and that doesn't even make the top 5 of Marvel. Now that Marvel has Spider-Man on their roster they've got even more life to them.

    The action in this movie is insane and so well shot. Loved every second of it.

    • @4Everlast

      A few questions tho, he could walk away from it all, yet, he went back to the dock to shot his own coworkers, jumped off the dock, and climbed right the fuck back? Doesn't make ANY sense at all. And the dock shot out was some of the most boring shotouts i have ever seen and no, having no music at all didn't hinder it that much, it was just shot very bland, very dry.
      And the dummie heads looked horrible, scraping a persones face to the bone that easyly drew me out of it, just like breaking 3 peoples hands and they don't make a sound at all ? In a suposed realistic film?
      Not to mention we didn't see the wife suffer enough to justiffie her taking a rifle, she can sudenly use and KILL someone her self?
      All in all it was STILL solid AF, B+ from me.

    • @francoochoa3176

      Dino Sabalić you have to realize tho, that the director does this on purpose. He pays homage to the grindhouse films and practical effects. Also the beginning is deliberately bad but the entire prison scenes were a masterpiece. I honestly felt more from the violence in this movie than cgi ever has.

    I agree the mannequins and poor special effects must've been deliberate, which made me wonder why. There were times when I thought that the movie was surrealistic and that it was all some sort of dream. Also the muscular guy with the deep voice that is killed in the beginning seem to appear again at cell block 99?

    I disagree about what you said about the pacing of the movie and its runtime being a bit too long, but that's really just a matter of personal opinion as I don't mind movies that are a slow burn so long as the setup and payoff are done well enough, which I think Cellblock 99 absolutely pulled off. Every passing minute had me getting further to the edge of my seat! But great review nonetheless. This movie was an instant cult classic for me.

    I defiantly the mannequin was on purpose if you’re talking about the ending scene. I think it paid homage to a lot of the classics. When I saw that I didn’t feel disappointed at the lack of realism, I was more impressed by the attempt and execution of practical effects.
    It made me think about The Thing (1982) or the car bomb scene in Casino.

    Between this film and “Bone Tamohawk” I feel like this man is making less verbose Tarantino films. Even the first film he wrote, but didn’t direct, “Asylum Blackout” has all the grindhouse feel with none of the fake grain filters. 10/10 will continue to follow this guy’s career.

      Apparently this is a PlayStation nation. There are those pushing for a firewall to be installed to keep out those XBoxicans. Little do those people realization we all benefit from gaming across platforms. In these dark times, its truly heartwarming to hear about Nintendo and Microsoft relaxing old restrictions and finally allowing multiplayer gaming across their platforms. I hope Sony will move into the future with them; no one should be locked out of playing a mult-platform game with their friends because they happened to have a different console.

    Does Chris not know those old films were presented in high definition in the theater? 35mm has a resolution of 8K it bothers me people continue to think high definition wasn’t invented until only recently. The effects were bad in those days because they’re ultra cheap and a who gives a fuck mentality. Make heads explode.

    I straight up loved this movie. I didn't know anything going in, but I read some reviews that it was boring and a waste of time. I'm the kind of guy, once I like an actor, I will watch just about anything with them in it. I grew up on Vince Vaughn's comedies. I always watch his movies. I'm pumped as hell whenever I see comedian movie actors move towards serious roles. Examples: Punch Drunk Love (Adam Sandler) No Escape (Owen Wilson) Everything Must Go (Will Ferrell) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Number 23 (Jim Carrey). The prime example I give often is Robin Williams. I'm also the kind of guy that really enjoys longer movies. When I see a movie, I want time to just live in the world for a while. I'm not wanting to rush to a conclusion. Especially a movie I'm really enjoying. In my opinion, Brawl in Cell Block 99 was perfect length. My only issue was the relationship between the main character and his wife. I didn't get a convincing performance that she was in love with him. First scene we get with her, we find out she's a cheater. Going forward, nothing about her acting made me believe she was with him because of love. I actually expected the ending to be something like "it's not your baby, and you did all this for what?" But it went a different direction. Which is cool. I liked the ending, but I wasn't super sold on the relationship.

    This movie was awful to me, everything except first 40min or so of the movie just isn't good. Costume design for guards at Redleaf (not to mention warden who look like he came out of Red Alert 3 game) seems very cheap, just disappointing for a movie with Vince V. in it, all fighting sequences are acted terribly bad (actually laughed at some of those), script (except for first part which was actually decent) is executed poorly, overall acting in the movie is mediocre at best, ive seen some high school project movies acted better by supporting actors.... I just don't understand how can this be A-, i normally agree with most of your reviews, or at least understand why you like/dislike a movie, but this is just confusing to me, its actually one the worst movies I've seen in last couple of years... it would actually make more sense to me if it was one of those hilariocity reviews
