Chris Stuckmann reviews Brawl in Cell Block 99, starring Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Carpenter, Marc Blucas, Udo Kier, Don Johnson. Directed by S. Craig Zahler.
I couldn't believe how great Vince Vaughn was in this movie. I was hooked as soon as he tore that car apart with his bare hands.
Wait, WHAT
Joann Jaison yeah it shows short clips of it in this video. He doesn't rip the whole car apart but he breaks the headlights with his fists and pulls the hood right off of the car.
It was a badass scene
Patrick Todd doesn't he do that in every movie. He did that in fred claus too 😒
G59 I've never seen that movie lol
Vince Vaughn is actually a good dramatic actor.
Joel Davis Did you motorboat them? You did didn't you, you motorboating son of a bitch
And looks like he's actually trying to take more serious and dramatic paths, with this, True Detective, Hacksaw Ridge, and The Forgiven. Makes me really happy because his roles here are so much better than his comedic roles where he usually just plays himself.
+KOB KOB lol
He was phenomenal in True Detective s2. IDGAF.
If you want to see one of his earliest dramatic roles check out Return To Paradise with Joaquin Phoenix.
Vince, the Vaughn and only
Hateful M8 this is awesome
A really GOOD PUN...😊

Director of bone Tomahawk?
Vince Vaughn gives perfomance of his career?
say no more. I'm in.
PD: review Bone Tomahawk Chris. please
please Chris review Bone Tomahawk!!
3 years later & he hasn’t reviewed bone tomahawk. But this review has come up from me seeing a review of bone tomahawk.
@@Fumblingthroughlifeonline I'm still waiting!
@@Aldo_The_Apache76 tell Chris not me.
I have a feeling not alot of people are gonna see this movie. Almost all good original movies are bombing nowadays
Elijah Cassidy and it's those same dumb ass people who complain that there aren't original movies being made anymore
MultiBum123 I am pretty sure those two group of people dont overlap.
Like always
Elijah Cassidy I saw it on Showbox and this was no GD at all to long
MultiBum123 we have Blade Runner 2049, thats a fucking masterpiece, and probably the best cinema experience Ive ever had, but people still complain about shit movies yet they show up for Happy death day
No drug compares to the pure, euphoric feeling of being Stuckmannized. No matter what I do, the Stuckmann always draws me back. It's not an addiction, it's an affliction.
LukenatorFTW that’s fucking weird

All I needed to hear was that it's from the guy who did Bone Tomahawk. SOLD.
Mike Solc
Exactly my thought
But that was good. This fucking sucked.
Luke Petersen how did it? I've seen it and thought it was really good.
Guess I’m watching Bone Tomahawk next. 99 is a hidden classic. Movie nerds dream. I bet Tarantino loves 99
I loved this movie .Vince Vaughn Killed it
kibichi Altair literaly
Straight garbage and horrible acting, wtf did you watch?? He literally beat up a car and you thought that was cool.
I fucking loved Bone Tomohawk you should review it
Agreed. Good Halloween movie too.
Giri Raghav I've never seen Western horror so this was just so much fun and actually scary
Absolutely. Great atmosphere too. And the dialogue was superb. If you liked Bone Tomahawk I can recommend the book "Wraiths of the Broken Land" from the same author/director. One of the most disturbing yet beautiful books I've read.
Yes!!!!
Yes please
Finally got around to seeing this and you are right. This movie was awesome.

Vince Vaughn is definitely that era talent that could've been so much bigger. Probably one of the greatest actors of a modern age, but saddles himself with such up and down movie roles. Like, great physicality but also has the natural acting wit to be a modern Bill Murray
Up and down? Vince doesn’t even have a bad movie.
True detective s2 is not good. But Vaughn is great it in. First time I totally forgot him as an actor and was 100% invested in his character. The guy has chops.
Benerji It's good, just not outstanding like the first season or near it.
He was good but his dialogues were terrible. "Don't do anything out of hunger, not even eat."
@@amsheel9921 Yes S2 is underrated as much S1 is overrated. To me S1 was outstanding technically and had an atmospherebut story and characters were not that interesting with a lot of clichés. From S2 I only remember the party house scenes and the relation between Vaughn and his wife. I remember thinking this relationship was original for this genre : they were both as strong as the other. They were equals and this was trully beautiful and particularly touching in the end
True Detective s2 is almost the opposite of s1, quality-wise. It's a mess in its first half, then there's the time jump, and from that point, it gets better and better and better until a spectacularly bleak ending, while my interest for the arc story of s1 faded away in the second half after a stellar beginning, and I found the bland outcome to be an utter disappointment.
Benerji Saying True Detective season 2 is not good is like saying ice cream tastes bad, it’s an opinion yes, it’s just a wrong opinion.
Might be my favourite film of the decade. Almost everything about the film drew me in, including small details like the gloves that the revolver-wielding Don Johnson is always wearing, and the use of stairs as a symbol of Vince Vaughan's descent into hell to save his family. Couldn't have enjoyed it more. Craig Zahler setting amazing scripts to grindhouse films, FUCK YES!
Holy Shit, THATS THE GUY FROM DODGEBALL?!!!!
and be cool n Bates motel tv movie
Mark my words,
the Infinity War trailer WILL BREAK THE INTERNET!!!
Is the Infinity War trailer on the verge of being put online in the next few days/weeks?
Doubt it. Marvel has fallen off in the past few years in my opinion. Just don't enjoy the movies like I used to.
That's your personal opinion so I'm going to tell you that your opinion is wrong. But I disagree and think that Marvel's worst movie is better then most of the DCs movie with Wonder Woman being the only exception and that doesn't even make the top 5 of Marvel. Now that Marvel has Spider-Man on their roster they've got even more life to them.
Such a phenomenal film! Vince Vaughn has always been one of my favorites just as a personality, but he truly shines here. This movie will go under the radar, but it's one of the best this year.
The action in this movie is insane and so well shot. Loved every second of it.
A few questions tho, he could walk away from it all, yet, he went back to the dock to shot his own coworkers, jumped off the dock, and climbed right the fuck back? Doesn't make ANY sense at all. And the dock shot out was some of the most boring shotouts i have ever seen and no, having no music at all didn't hinder it that much, it was just shot very bland, very dry.
And the dummie heads looked horrible, scraping a persones face to the bone that easyly drew me out of it, just like breaking 3 peoples hands and they don't make a sound at all ? In a suposed realistic film?
Not to mention we didn't see the wife suffer enough to justiffie her taking a rifle, she can sudenly use and KILL someone her self?
All in all it was STILL solid AF, B+ from me.
Dino Sabalić you have to realize tho, that the director does this on purpose. He pays homage to the grindhouse films and practical effects. Also the beginning is deliberately bad but the entire prison scenes were a masterpiece. I honestly felt more from the violence in this movie than cgi ever has.
I really want to see the short film they've made. It looks very well crafted from what bits Chris has let us see here.
I'm always VERY appreciative of wide angle shots during action scenes. Really helps immerse you in the action rather than constant quick cutting unless of course the narrative calls for the quick cutting
Chris grew up in prison
Bone Tomahawk was amazing
The CineRanter ima watch the movie no trailer nothing what makes it good no spoikers please
It really is
@@robert_6-_896 Did you watch it?
Bone tomahawk has great performances and good horror scenes, but was beyond boring, was immensely boring
Very much looking forward to see the same director's next film next year: DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE starring Mel Gibson & Vince Vaughn. Udo Kier & Don Johnson also returning in the supporting roles.
I fucking loved that movie. The scene of Mel Gibson crouched on that hood reloading that revolver is the best acting I've seen in a long time.
I was impressed with this movie also. It was raw and unfiltered. I also love the moments where they opted for no music. It made the movie even more immersive. It was definitely one of the best indie films i've seen in quite some time.
I am by no means a Vince Vaughn fan, but he won't me over in this. I loved this movie. He was great, so was the direction , as well as the action. I loved how it felt like a 70s grindhouse movie. Keep an eye on this director.
Im still waiting for you to review "SHOT CALLER"

Vince Vaughn was perfect as a gangster in True Detective 2
Definitely agree, slight spoiler* that ending bit with Vince walking in the desert, so solid. I wish they'd do another True Detective and learn from the mistakes of the 2nd season but despite it all I still liked the 2nd season.
Mr. Mammuthus Africanavus They are, and Jeremy Saulnier who made Green Room and Blue Ruin is doing it.
n he a wanna be a black gangster in be cool
I drove 27 miles to watch this movie in a movie theater last week and I don't regret any minute of it. This was an jaw breaking descent into the bowels of hell. Glad you liked it, Chris, but you forgot to mention Don Johnson in a brief role as the warden. He still has the Don Johnson cool factor, imo.
Great review as usual :D and best of lucks with the short film Chris! I hope you can get it on Blu Ray for those of us outside the US :D
I’m an over 50 year old Black man - but although you and I aren’t in the same demographic - your movie reviews are 98% consistent with minds. That’s why you’re my favorite movie review person. Now before I see any movie I always check your reviews first.

I just marathoned all three Zahler films, and my god. What a great director. Did Stuck ever review Bone Tomahawk?
I love the shirt Chris
This video just made my morning!! I hope you can release it on Blu-ray!! I live in Louisiana, so I would have some trouble making up there. If you ever get it on Blu-ray, I will definitely be buying it!
Fuck yeah, just saw this film yesterday, absolutely fantastic!!

I LOVED Bone Tomahawk, and Brawl in Cell Block 99
CAN'T WAIT for Dragged Across Concrete (The directors next film which will star Vaughn and Mel Gibson)
I was doing something at work but stopped when I saw that Chris uploaded
this is the best film of the year. I don't really like Vince Vaughn but he is brilliant in this film , The Violence is way past brutal. It should be a cult film for the future, You must see it before you die
Vince Vaughn signature role was definitely his role in true detective season 2 damn he was badass
I loved this movie! S. Craig Zalher is a director to keep an eye one. Next movie stars Vince and Mel Gibson. Called Dragged Across Concrete
Grand Theft Auto the movie
There are times when I watch your review and i switch from "nope, not going to see that" to "yeah, I want to see that" and yet you don't spoil the films...Thanks!
"I loved every minute of this movie. It's a little overlong."
- Chris Stuckmann (2017)
I loved that Vince had brains to match the brawn with his uncanny ability to accurately read situations and explode when needed.
You should review; Dead Man's Shoes - Brutal, tense, British crime film
Douglas Wells stunning movie .... paddy is amazing in that movie
Fun fact about Brawl in Cell Block 99 - Actor Tom Guiry, who played the weasel prison guard, was Smalls from The Sandlot.
CHRIS GREW UP IN PRISON
SNAPPING ZOD'S NECK
"Yeah, I'm loco. Now get the fuck outta my crazy way."
That line cemented Vince Vaughn as a fucking badass.
Hehe X boxer
Review Netflix’s Wheelman Chris! Was so much better than I ever thought it would be and Frank Grillo was brilliant in it. Suuuper unique cinematography too. Like really unique.
Chris Stuckman grew up with 70's action movies.
Vince Vaughan is a pretty charismatic screen presence, and his acting here was first rate, but without giving too much away, I thought this movie was depressing.
"... starring Vince Vaughn as an x-boxer..." sounds like every 14 y/o.
I think you mean ex-boxer. X-boxer sounds like a video game nerd. Lol
Personally,i had no problem with the mannequin at all.Great homage to the genre that brawl draws a lot from and far preferable to stupid CGI that will look dated in 5-10 years.Superb film and a cult classic already.
I really want Chris to do a review on the film ET: The Extraterrestrial
One of the reasons Chris is worlds better than all the other RUclips critics is because he searches out smaller films, like this, like A Ghost Story. You would never see Jeremy Jahns review a flick like this.
As for the movie, I liked it. VAughn is incredible. Would love for Chris to review Bone Tomahawk.
*Dammit Stuckmann the best notification better be Ragnarok.*
Did anyone notice there was severe lack of vocal reaction from characters who had their bones broken?
First Jai Courtney is good in something, then Chris Pine, and now there's a good movie starring Vince Vaughn and he's actually a stand-out performer? WHAT IS GOING ON!?
Jai Courtney In Exception, Chris in Hell or High water?
Suicide Squad, actually xD
i knew you would say that LOL
I clearly didn't grow up with Jai Courtney :3
Mohd Amerul Aidil
He always was a really good actor but he always chose to do shitty comedy instead of movies like Punch,Drunk Love.
"You dont wanna be locked up inside with me sunshine.
Inside, Im someone nobody wants to fuck with, do you understand.
My name is Charlie Bronson.
The Killing Of A Sacred Deer plzzz
I didn't like The Lobster it was very boring and overrated af so idk about this one
DIDNT yms praise that movie.
Marin Zajmi Damn, I actually loved that movie bc it was so different while still staying realistic & true to the world it created.
Jossy FTW who's that?
Joshua Martinez I really like different and weird films but The Lobster was very empty and not that interesting for me
This is one of the best movie i've seen in a long time. Simply put: It's awesome.
This film tranformed Vince, opening doors to new possibilities in the years to come.
Where'd you get that t-shirt I want it
Zed I think it's from Hot Topic...
Patrick Bateman thanks!
Zed No problem, dude!
It is from hot topic! A guy I did a collaboration he got it
I agree the mannequins and poor special effects must've been deliberate, which made me wonder why. There were times when I thought that the movie was surrealistic and that it was all some sort of dream. Also the muscular guy with the deep voice that is killed in the beginning seem to appear again at cell block 99?
*I LOVE THIS MOVIE*
I’m really sad I can’t go to your movie Auditorium 6 premier because I live in Northern Ireland, but I’ll definitely buy a Blu Ray if there’s gonna be one. Your the best Chris and you inspire me to make my own short films.🤙
I can tell by face expression you really like this movie
This movie was dope. I would recommend sticking with it to the end. It starts aimlessly and then halfway gets razor sharp focus. It was an incredible rollercoaster ride into prison hell.
Hello, I ate a rock.

Chris : "Starring Vince Vaughn as an Xboxer."
Me : "What?"
When are you gonna review Dog Pound ?
I disagree about what you said about the pacing of the movie and its runtime being a bit too long, but that's really just a matter of personal opinion as I don't mind movies that are a slow burn so long as the setup and payoff are done well enough, which I think Cellblock 99 absolutely pulled off. Every passing minute had me getting further to the edge of my seat! But great review nonetheless. This movie was an instant cult classic for me.
Just watched shot caller today. On to this now!
4kilometers the movie suckz balls horrible acting
Wild100s lol thx for the heads up. Maybe sumn else then
4kilometers trust me this is one of the most garbage movies ive ever seen
Brawl in CellBlock 99 is fucking amazing, deserves so much recognition!!! Thank you for reviewing it and giving it more attention, it’s amazing !! Vince Vaugh needs a nomination for this movie!!
Loved this movie. I wish Vince played the role of Jack Reacher. A few more pounds, with his attitude, would seal the deal.
I defiantly the mannequin was on purpose if you’re talking about the ending scene. I think it paid homage to a lot of the classics. When I saw that I didn’t feel disappointed at the lack of realism, I was more impressed by the attempt and execution of practical effects.
It made me think about The Thing (1982) or the car bomb scene in Casino.
Hey Chris can you review anime movie called A silent voice
It released together with your name and it didn't got much attention
Please make it happen
I just saw it yesterday and I was surprised how it didn't got the attention it deserved
Between this film and “Bone Tamohawk” I feel like this man is making less verbose Tarantino films. Even the first film he wrote, but didn’t direct, “Asylum Blackout” has all the grindhouse feel with none of the fake grain filters. 10/10 will continue to follow this guy’s career.
Chriss review Okja pleeeeeasse more people need to know about this movie!
Riley Dominics this comment ^^^ deserves more likes !!
Vince Vaughn is a national treasure and I couldn’t agree more with your review, well said. I really enjoyed him in the breakup, but this was truly the VV movie I was waiting for! Here’s hoping he continues to make solid film choices in the years to come.…
Review Thor Ragnarok and only the brave next
I just noticed that Chris's voice that he uses for "and get Stuckmannized" might be from Metal Gear Solid.
So you go to prison nowadays for being an Xbox guy?
Apparently this is a PlayStation nation. There are those pushing for a firewall to be installed to keep out those XBoxicans. Little do those people realization we all benefit from gaming across platforms. In these dark times, its truly heartwarming to hear about Nintendo and Microsoft relaxing old restrictions and finally allowing multiplayer gaming across their platforms. I hope Sony will move into the future with them; no one should be locked out of playing a mult-platform game with their friends because they happened to have a different console.
Constantine Pappas convert to PS4 bitch
Seems appropriate.
Good luck with the screening Chris! I wish I could go see it, but I’ve got school. I’ll have to get a copy of it when it’s available.
I miss the hilariousity reviews...
Watched „brawl in cell block 99“ at the Biennale in Venedig.
Brutal, hard but in the beginning a slow burn.
Was big fun to watch it!
Great Cast! Don Johnson is what we saw in his late career before, but still enjoyable.
Does Chris not know those old films were presented in high definition in the theater? 35mm has a resolution of 8K it bothers me people continue to think high definition wasn’t invented until only recently. The effects were bad in those days because they’re ultra cheap and a who gives a fuck mentality. Make heads explode.
Can’t express how much I loved this movie! Amazing in every sense of the word...... please watch it people it deserves much more recognition !!
Review mindhunter chris!
If this is his signature role people remember I am sorry for Vince Vaughn. This should be a Hilariocity review.
Whats Debra doing?
Dana Losvic resting in peace

Logan Stewart nope she’s at the bottom of the ocean
Quinn’s gonna be pissed.
I straight up loved this movie. I didn't know anything going in, but I read some reviews that it was boring and a waste of time. I'm the kind of guy, once I like an actor, I will watch just about anything with them in it. I grew up on Vince Vaughn's comedies. I always watch his movies. I'm pumped as hell whenever I see comedian movie actors move towards serious roles. Examples: Punch Drunk Love (Adam Sandler) No Escape (Owen Wilson) Everything Must Go (Will Ferrell) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Number 23 (Jim Carrey). The prime example I give often is Robin Williams. I'm also the kind of guy that really enjoys longer movies. When I see a movie, I want time to just live in the world for a while. I'm not wanting to rush to a conclusion. Especially a movie I'm really enjoying. In my opinion, Brawl in Cell Block 99 was perfect length. My only issue was the relationship between the main character and his wife. I didn't get a convincing performance that she was in love with him. First scene we get with her, we find out she's a cheater. Going forward, nothing about her acting made me believe she was with him because of love. I actually expected the ending to be something like "it's not your baby, and you did all this for what?" But it went a different direction. Which is cool. I liked the ending, but I wasn't super sold on the relationship.
Stuckman this movie was horrible. I usually agree with you, but this movie was like a Saturday Night Live fight scene with Will Farrell without the humor.
I’m late 3yrs later it was amazing I never knew Vince Vaughn could get so dark🤯 but he played the role well 👍🏾
I grew up with Brawl in Cell Block 99?
It’s Bronson meets Hostel. If you liked those two films you’ll love this. I was pleasantly surprised how good this was.
Only fucking time I am SO fucking early
TheUndefined Gamer Are you fucking really? Holy fucking shit, dude!!
I'm pretty sure that obvious shot of manikin is deliberate, probably have some meanings behind it, since rest of the film's effects is unbelievably great.
This movie was awful to me, everything except first 40min or so of the movie just isn't good. Costume design for guards at Redleaf (not to mention warden who look like he came out of Red Alert 3 game) seems very cheap, just disappointing for a movie with Vince V. in it, all fighting sequences are acted terribly bad (actually laughed at some of those), script (except for first part which was actually decent) is executed poorly, overall acting in the movie is mediocre at best, ive seen some high school project movies acted better by supporting actors.... I just don't understand how can this be A-, i normally agree with most of your reviews, or at least understand why you like/dislike a movie, but this is just confusing to me, its actually one the worst movies I've seen in last couple of years... it would actually make more sense to me if it was one of those hilariocity reviews
Ah Chris, I just saw this review! Dang if I would’ve seen it right when it was released, we would’ve made your premier. I hope everything went off without a hitch and it was a wild success. Much love from Cleveland and keep up the good work. Also, B DOES do amazing work! Haha wonderful young lady and she treated me superbly. Thanks for the recommendation.
So that's it huh we're some kind of Brawl in Cell Block 99
Please review Dragged Across Concrete. S. Craig Zahler has really proven himself to be a talented director. Thank you as always!
