If you want to know the truth about Edward and Wallis, I urge you to buy Andrew Lownie's book. Mr Lownie speaks the unvarnished facts about two horrible people.
Also watch 'Edward the Traitor King' made a few years ago, a great deal of achieve film available plus narrative by those in the know... The royal family were not just annoyed at his behaviour... but worried he could bring them down if found out. The fact that their name was changed from Sax Coburg to Windsor shows just how sensitive they were with the German connection.... Remember quite a few of the aristocracy and the right wing daily mail were supporters of the nazi regime and were complicit in 'hushing' Edwards behaviour up....
Mr. Lownie is appropriately neutral and relying on only the best of sources. I like his fairness to Wallis Simpson. She was no angel - she was extremely unconventional in her relationships with men for the time, and was fairly demanding about money and "nice things" - but clearly she was made the main villain of the affair by the British at the time, whereas it is clear from Mr. Lownie's research that the Duke himself was the main villain.
As a Brit we are very aware of Edward's short-comings and know that Wallis did not want to actually marry him she was forced into a divorce. Its also known Edward like to swing both ways much like the rumour Harry has similar proclivities...allegedly.

According to recent findings, it would appear that Wallace was more or less forced into divorcing her husband (Ernest Simpson), whom she obviously still loved, and married the Duke soon afterward. This requires more investigation because it does bring up the suspicion that the marriage may have been forced on both of them as a 'sympathetic and compassionate' reason for the King's abdication - rather than the truth (with serious implications) that both Wallace and the Duke were guilty of serious crimes.

Absolutely Stunning presentation, I hope your book is available on Audiobooks as I am 73 Years old and bad eyes, cannot read from books. I therefore rely on Amazon Audiobooks.
I enjoyed your presentation and learning more about the former king's activities during WW2 and afterward. I was unaware of his ties to Hilter and the Nazi's until it was mentioned during the Netflix series: The Crown, which I assumed was not entirely accurate and have been seeking facts online etc. As for why your book may not have been covered by the print media as much as in the past, I'll admit many newsrooms are very somewhat political and editors can be difficult and fickle. There are likely several news organization who would ignore certain books for whatever reason and/or not be inspired to assign books reviews based on the topic. However, I'd also argue what was made public by the Netflix series may have created a larger demand for information among online readers such as myself. But speaking as a (now freelance) journalist formerly a fulltime newspaper staff reporter who was laid off during covid, I'd also point out that covid hit revenues of many newspapers very hard and aggravated the downward spiral of many. As so many readers were at home, online and able to read the news for free generally bypassing paywall revenues in addition to reduced print ad sales revenues as businesses scaled back their already shrinking ad dollars, many media organizations laid off newsroom staff. Thus, there just aren't as many reporters to write reviews these days. Secondly, those that remain are often shackled by quotas that require writers to file anywhere between 2 to ten stories a day for online and reading an entire book for one article just isn't practical in many cases. Regardless, great information and thanks for posting this video.
Hardly surprising as he was principally German and it was only his father who had Anglicized the family name from it's German origins to make it more palatable to the British people.
Mountbatten was the Anglican of the German battenberg. Neither king George V or Queen Mary ever lived in Germany, even though they were both of German extraction. Mary was born in kensington palace in the same room Queen Victoria was born in. Her family lived there, until they scuttled to Spain because of debt. Eventually Victoria paid their debt and the family moved back to kensington.
I have ordered this book. I was fascinated by the reviews and how some of the things people say parallel the two ingrates who are tormenting the Royals.
The Royals always were great spongers and that includes the present family. The Windsors are obscenely wealthy and until relatively recently they paid no taxes.
He spoke of it, but said he could find no primary source evidence of a 'relationship' and that at least the 17 carnations per day part of the story was most likely apocryphal because they met fewer than 17 times.
He preferred to not forget who he is than to pretend who he isnt, taking in consideration the last name of your royal family before they become Windsor. What your book made me think is why Roudolph Hess stayed in total isolation at Spandau Prison!!!
He took all the monies that were supposed to be the King’s when he left. My understanding is that it amounted to $200 million in today’s money, with no income tax, which included the Royal Family.
Yoko Ono is a world-renown artist and performer; Wallis Simpson was a sexual adventuress who became snared in her own duplicity. Both Windsors were canny hustlers on the make.
The photo at 3.11 is not Wallis's second marriage to Ernest Simpson, it is their court presentation photo. Wallis and Ernest were married at Chelsea Register Office in London. She wore a bright yellow dress with a blue coat.
It was a treat to listen to you disseminate the chapters and give your insights into this book. If only you had been around years ago to tell “your side of the story” maybe we would had the smarts to become a republic, and wipe the slate clean of all the phoney “king and country” BS
"Harry the Hanover" I like it. I've heard the Burtons were guests of the Windsors in their home and that Richard said of Wallis that "She is the most vulgar woman I have ever met." To me that is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
Bit silly to pretend any of the Royal Family aren't "Hanoverian". I suppose, if you are strictly paternalistic, the house Albert came from was what they were. The current would of course be whatever house Philip really was. One would have to trace back to a prince andrew of Denmark as his relationship to the current Royal family also went through maternal lineages.
Tbf a lot of people were taken in by that pair. Jimmy Saville to me as a child was creepy but appeared to do a lot for charities. Rolf Harris imagine was more protected by the fact he was a family man. Unfortunately these people dont come with paedophile tattooed on their forehead. Gut feelings may raise doubts but not necessarily evidence.
I think he was very popular among the 'working classes' and said to be concerned for the plight of the poor, and it was widely believed in Britain that the 'upper Classes' had conspired to get him out because of it; which would have caused un-needed controversy at the time.
And yet, Michael Bowes, his lifestyle was so removed from the working classes that he really did not show much affinity for them for the duration of his life. Maybe a little charity here and there, but nothing consequential. I think you're just repeating a conspiracy theory.
I suspect the opposite was true. He felt threatened by his peers, who knew he was a wuss, so he faked an interest in the working poor. In his high-class ramblings after his abdication he certainly didn't display any interest in the unfortunate, least of all the persecuted Jews of Germany.
The Duke wanted world peace and today I hear Harry Windsor saying at the Invictus Games that he wants to make the world safe for his kids. Such similarities.
Quite. There was a similar Channel 4 documentary in 1995, even with a nearly identical title "Edward VIII: The Traitor King". However, to judge by the above video, the new book has more material.
An excellent program...thanks! I think folks think that the RF had their wealth supplied to them, which is not the case...they are a long royal family line dating back at least 1000 years...the UK was just that for hundreds of years before the Magna Carta...I am not British, but I believe they receive monies from the government as the Queen is head of state and the RF have duties that call for them to represent "Queen and Country"...the present situation is history repeating itself...in both cases, the Queen and the RF are the object of personal and institutional attack...as I understand it, the author says that the Duke wanted to "have his cake and eat it too". He wanted "respect" for WS and the Crown back as well...since they both appear to be pro-Nazi, they could kill two birds with one stone by helping the Germans win & they would get the Crown and possibly revenge...this would explain the two main reasons why the Queen and the government wanted them kept out of the UK - the first being the couple's provable traitorous activities and second, the Queen's belief that her father might have lived longer if her uncle had not abdicated...WS had no choice but to accept her lot in life; which was not what she wanted - she wanted to be Queen with all the perks and as a consequence, she perhaps made the lives of the Duke and herself most uncomfortable as a result...they were considered to be a most unpleasant couple as they thought that life centered around them and nobody else...
And now for Harry and Meggy, the Hollywood shine has worn off and the money is not pouring in as it was.....So where can we get Free Money....ah yes the mug punters in UK, so let's go home and really take the Mickey....one duty a month - chosen by us of course - and Party party at our expense.
Britain was fortunate that they had a King worthy of his status in George V1, loyal and steadfast. Edward V111 was weak and self indulgent, the worst of it was he admired the Fascists in Germany. With him as King, Britain may now be part of Germany. Consider that!!
I hope Mr Downie includes the true background of Ernest Salomon as this has a great bearing on their marriage and to her relationship with "the little man" ?
Are we sure David wasn’t gĀ? (Sorry, there are some words we can’t write correctly). His women may’ve just been beard’s. He and Wallis were never going to sire children..as she was to old.
Your implications say so much more about yourself than anyone in this video; the 'track record' of this particular infamous person indicates that he liked to be sexually dominated by females. That doesn't mean he's closeted.
Wallis Simpson did our country the greatest favours ever, rid us of a useless and selfish man. King George v1 and Queen Elizabeth saved the day f for us.The Windsors were an abhorant pair. The Queen mother had every reason to distance herself from them.Ordinary people didn’t figure in their lives.
In Australia, we call the Royal Family, Koalas, a protected species. If only the Last Will and Testaments of the Royal Family were made public, as every other person in the UK, we could see how they move millions of pounds and valuable artifacts around among themselves, to avoid scrutiny. On a jocular note, with the passing of her majesty, I will miss those occasions when she would be performing the opening of something or other, and commerce the speech with the classic line, "It gives my husband and I great pleasure, as I'm sure it does you" on this auspicious occasion, Blah, Blah, Blah, etc.

After I read this book I just felt stick sick to my stomach thought David could ever betray his brother
... and an entire nation.
They were Nazis
Hardly surprising as he was principally German and it was only his father who had Anglicized the family name from it's German origins to make it more palatable to the British people.
Royal families are the absolute worst example of nepotism.
However the mount battens had been British kings and queens for a century.
The various royal families of Europe were all interbred
Mountbatten was the Anglican of the German battenberg. Neither king George V or Queen Mary ever lived in Germany, even though they were both of German extraction. Mary was born in kensington palace in the same room Queen Victoria was born in. Her family lived there, until they scuttled to Spain because of debt. Eventually Victoria paid their debt and the family moved back to kensington.
Very informative and interesting, thank you for this.
Thank you
It seems they deserved each other.
He had no redeeming qualities.
thank you so much for this!
My god this could be Harry’s story!!! Fascinating thank you
History repeating.i think H&M are actually worse.awful people.
My thoughts exactly
@@tonikeep4420 I wonder if this is why he's going back to the UK for 6 months and if they will need to deprogram him.
I think Harry may be immature, but he is no traitor and he served honorably in the military.
@@thomastani749 Thank you.
Really interesting. Thank you.
I have ordered this book. I was fascinated by the reviews and how some of the things people say parallel the two ingrates who are tormenting the Royals.
Did you enjoy it?
During the Blitz, Buckingham Palace was struck by Nazi bombs , just image the Dukes reaction , I doubt he was upset for his family.
The Royals always were great spongers and that includes the present family. The Windsors are obscenely wealthy and until relatively recently they paid no taxes.
This is some very fascinating stuff!
Games are still being played...
Ann Boleyn also had no known date of birth or birth certificate and she was also referred to as "That Woman" by her British retractors.
The Abramovich connection is timely. Great review of a terrible man. Cheers
When will this book go on Audible?
but did I miss reference to Wallace’s ‘relationship’ with Ribbentrop ?
sorry Wallis
He spoke of it, but said he could find no primary source evidence of a 'relationship' and that at least the 17 carnations per day part of the story was most likely apocryphal because they met fewer than 17 times.
3:51 he speaks of it.

They carried their missery, unhappiness and frustrations all over their villas! I prefer to be happy in a small courage! Miserable existance!
He preferred to not forget who he is than to pretend who he isnt, taking in consideration the last name of your royal family before they become Windsor. What your book made me think is why Roudolph Hess stayed in total isolation at Spandau Prison!!!
I don't believe that a Church of England vicar would marry them, since she was divorced.
Well one did, as a matter of historical fact, whatever you believe.
He took all the monies that were supposed to be the King’s when he left. My understanding is that it amounted to $200 million in today’s money, with no income tax, which included the Royal Family.
*Wallis Simpson and Edward Traitor 🤴king appreciate your readings Listening 📚 From Mass USA TYVM 💙*
Wallis Simpson was the "Yoko Ono" of the 1930s.
As is Meghan of 2018
Yoko Ono is a world-renown artist and performer; Wallis Simpson was a sexual adventuress who became snared in her own duplicity. Both Windsors were canny hustlers on the make.
Great work ...
If only you had been around years ago to tell “your side of the story” maybe we would had the smarts to become a republic, and wipe the slate clean of all the phoney “king and country” BS
you need to write about how mentally abusive Queen Victoria was with her kids
5:45 Mr. Lonnie sounds like he said Dianna didn’t want to be alone with the Prince? Am I mishearing this?
"Harry the Hanover" I like it. I've heard the Burtons were guests of the Windsors in their home and that Richard said of Wallis that "She is the most vulgar woman I have ever met." To me that is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
Perhaps, therefore, a pot which knew whereof it spoke.
Couldn't wait to post your anti-Burton "wittisism," based on something you "heard," could you?
Richard Burton was a great actor, leave him to rest in peace.
Too many secrets . They just don't want the truth to fully come out. The question now is, is Harry & Megan becoming the next Edward VII ?
Bwwwaaahh. Nice try, but it shows that you read far less than you watch TV.
Can someone tell me the difference between Edwards actions (seeing a married woman) and Charles' actions (seeing a married woman)?
About seventy years.
It was accepted back then as long as the wife stayed with her husband.
Well, Charles never abdicated his title or betrayed his country. Will that do?
Gossipy biddies still keep score.
How can we leave out the current Heir Apparent and his sordid friendship with his chums Sir Jimmy Saville and Sir Rolf Harris ?
Tbf a lot of people were taken in by that pair. Jimmy Saville to me as a child was creepy but appeared to do a lot for charities. Rolf Harris imagine was more protected by the fact he was a family man. Unfortunately these people dont come with paedophile tattooed on their forehead. Gut feelings may raise doubts but not necessarily evidence.
Royalty , of course, is riddled with perverts.
But the powers that be in the UK will insist the monarchy continue. Something that old isn't euthanized on a whim.
Is this one of the reasons this man was forced out? A threat to the aristocracy, royalty and a threat to the establishment?
I suspect the opposite was true. He felt threatened by his peers, who knew he was a wuss, so he faked an interest in the working poor. In his high-class ramblings after his abdication he certainly didn't display any interest in the unfortunate, least of all the persecuted Jews of Germany.
@@CelticMorning No, it just shows how some people prefer myths to reality. Then AND now.
What about Edward talking to hitler at Dunkirk 1940 telling him to hold his tanks and troops for three days letting them escape this is still secret
This was very interesting and I'm thinking your book may get more attention after the Queen is gone she is what 95 now about.
The Duke wanted world peace and today I hear Harry Windsor saying at the Invictus Games that he wants to make the world safe for his kids. Such similarities.
I don't think Harry is a Nazi dreaming of restored power. I just think he wed an opportunist
Sheets ironed twice a day?
Only 445 views?
24,371 according to the counter under the title.
This isn’t anything new I have listened to other documentaries and books on this subject. I thought it was common knowledge
Quite. There was a similar Channel 4 documentary in 1995, even with a nearly identical title "Edward VIII: The Traitor King". However, to judge by the above video, the new book has more material.
Mr. Lownie is the real deal - all of his research is based upon primary sources.
Why did I click on this thinking it would be a political exposé of Boris Johnson?
Wallis became famous only because the duke married her. If he hadn’t nobody would have ever known her.
Since Edward the 8th abdicated, he was no longer king. He could be a traitor duke, but not a traitor king.
Is it me or what??? But H & M appear to be clones of E & W !!!!!!!!
LOL.
And now for Harry and Meggy, the Hollywood shine has worn off and the money is not pouring in as it was.....So where can we get Free Money....ah yes the mug punters in UK, so let's go home and really take the Mickey....one duty a month - chosen by us of course - and Party party at our expense.
Exploiting the royal brand for personal gain ? Deja vu
Next!
But this king was mistreated by his American wife! Is this not a fact? I fell sorry for him.
Did you not listen to any of this particular talk or read the book?
I dont understand how a King do this? Being King is not enough?
Justice?
If nothing else, Wallis was quite a fashion plate and kept her figure.
Dachau built 1933, Buchenwald 1937, Aushwitz 1940. The Duke must have missed this. Jesus, shocking, just shocking that he aligned himself AT ALL.
They were 2 wretched people

That drive me crazy… does the man not own a mouse?????
A good part of their value are the predictability and inoffensiveness, which are also boring.
TRAITOR INDEED.
