Did get the M2 Pro 16GB, 1TB for my channel and love it. Do not mind the size, normally i edit at home, and also when i take it with me it is not too much to handle. Good comparison, I think the average consumer is well suited with the Base M2 Air. Happy Sunday and cheers from Germany.

I don't agree with comments saying weight doesn't matter and people are overthinking it. Weight factor while carrying a computer in your briefcase or backpack might not seem like issue for every now and then but when you carry it everyday, it makes a big difference, esp. with briefcases to office.

Super vid ❤. Between these two I’d go for the Air. The 14” Pro is just not worth the bucks for me. I would much rather get the 16” for the pro features. The 14” is just there to fill in Apple’s price ladder, IMO. Just did a vid about this very thing. Cheers!

@@AZisk Because even 14" isn't super light, plus, the 16" it's big, and you can read tons of reviews online that point out problems when used outside home due to the dimensions. Honestly this could all be summarized by
    1. What do you prioritize?
A lot of people will think they need the mac book pro because its the top line, but they'll probably only use it for web browsing.
A good amount of people will think they could get away with getting the air because of the lower price point but their workload would require more processing/graphical power

I think the argument against the M2 Air is that if you don't need excessive power/speed for everyday browsing and emails, why not go for the M1 Air which is an even better value and is still more than powerful enough for those same everyday tasks. I would also argue that the M1 Air design language feels slimmer and lighter with the tapered edges although on paper I think it may weigh more than the M2 Air.

Very good video. I'm (by any definition) a power-user. Most of my Mac use revolves around Xcode, Visual Studio or Video-editing. I also make heavy use of Virtual Machines via VMware and Parallels. (and a lot of saving of family photos).
My current work laptop is a top of the line 2019 MBP Core i9 with 32GB RAM. This was an expensive machine and is only a few years old.
I recently purchased my wife an M2 Air with 16GB RAM and 512GB HDD.
I took the opportunity to play with it. Nearly every single thing I do on my work laptop I can do on her M2 Air, and do much faster. (Even without the dedicated GPU that I have now).
Do I want to upgrade mine to an M2 Pro or M2 Pro (Max)?? (Especially for the ability to run both of my Studio Displays?). Yes. Do I need to? No!
The M2 Air would still be an upgrade for nearly all of my workflow. Is it the fastest available now? No. Is it faster than what I have at a far smaller cost than a new M2 Pro or Pro (Max). Heck to the yeah! A bigger surprise is that my 32GB Intel MBP machine routinely uses the swap file. With the same work, I've NEVER hit it on her M2 Air. Memory compression magic? I have NO idea, but it works, and it works fast. (That's even with a Windows VM running).
The only thing I'd change on my wife's M2 Air if I were to use it is that I'd get 1TB internal storage. I wouldn't get the 24GB memory option because that gets me too close to the 32GB model of the M2 MacBook Pro.
I'm still not sure what I'll end up getting. I can afford either, but the M2 Air is certainly a viable option now. (and it's very nice to carry around being as lite as it is).

I had a 2011 Macbook Pro 13inch. Died on me in 2020. Then went to a Intel Silicon MBA 16gb of RAM. Last year I really got into photography and for a typical 100 photo edit on lightroom it would take me 6 hours to move through the workspace and get the final edits I wanted. Thermal throttled like crazy. I just bought a 2023 M2 MBP 16inch with 96GB of RAM. It is SEAMLESS. Workflows drastically streamlined - and even at full tilt the fans remain off and max RAM use so far was 40GB during a 100x 40MP photo export. I love the larger size.....easier to hold and control during movement and the larger screen and more robust chassis is a major plus. Sure - 96GB of ram might be overkill but who knows if by the end of the year I'll be editing 4k/8k videos as my passion increases.

      @photoniccannon2117 Год назад

I'd go for the M2 if, for no other reason, you'll get a longer lifetime out of it due to longer software support cycles. That being said, both machines have at least 5 years of full software support left (Apple typically phases machines out about five years after they were last sold new), so either will last a decent amount of time.

The files are massive, formulas are complicated and spread across different files, specially if you are in the financial modeling/analysis field. If you move around with your laptop a lot because of work and don’t want extra accessories, 2TB might be worth it. But, storage upgrades at Apple are expensive. It is better to buy a portable SSD drive from Sandisk or Samsung under $150 for 2TB. And, if you don’t move around a lot, don’t want extra accessories, but have a lot of money, maybe, you can invest in a NAS.

I carry around my laptop a LOT, from a day at the library to different lecture halls to seminars in different cities - and I very much prefer to travel with one small bag (carry-on only if I'm flying), so even small weight and size differences do add up.
I'm still quite torn between which one to get, 14" Pro or M2 Air, for my comp sci bachelor's. I'd get the full 24 GB RAM on the Air (I know it's probably more than I'll realistically need, but I've lived the low RAM life and am not risking repeating that experience) and the better processor option, 512 GB drive.. but then it's not super far from similarly spec 14" Pro prices. So I keep going back and forth and can't make up my mind.
Realistically, I should be perfectly fine with an Air. And the low weight is very appealing. But if I'm already paying four months of rent for an Air, does it make more sense to just go all out, spend a bit more, and get a Pro? I can't make up my mind 🤷

Computing performance aside, the screen is significantly nicer on the pro. Higher refresh rate and much better quality. I have the 14” M1 Pro and it’s a beast, but probably pretty overkill. Bought it refurb from apple with an extra 15% off from a friend’s employee discount

what if u r running a Django backend with docker and also then working on frontend using js ts react ??
    how would that compare ?
cause for air base model I don't think it will be able to handle it. definitely need to upgrade to 16gb ram and maybe storage also
and then if u running both the things and saving code and coming and typescript compiler checking for typescript do u think air will get crazy hot and wont be able to keep and after upgrading the base variate macbook its better to go with pro 14 inch base model

I'm an arch student so I have a windows laptop that now stays on my desk adn I use it for modelling and rendering, but the Air for everything else. it is such a nice computer. I'm gonna be honest, I am not a fan of lighter color devices. But, I was considering the silver since it's best in the "durability" category. I ended up getting the space gray and it was even a little darker than I thought it was going to be from the pictures. No scratching or chipping 2 weeks in, and I really enjoy it's darker looks.

Hello everyone. I have the very base level macbook pro 13’. I was thinking about upgrading because my model is very slow. I only have a few applications on my computer, and i don’t keep files on my computer, I have a little bit of OCD so i make sure my macbook has as much storage as possible, but unfortunately it still runs slow. I’m a Computer Science student, with a very very heavy workload on a day to day basis, and i am in the digital media space as well (photography & videography). I was thinking about getting the M2 14’ with 12 core cpu, 19 gpu and 16 gigs of memory. I know for a fact that this computer will last me, plus it has HDMI for my monitor, instead of having to plug in extra devices from amazon, it has an SD port which is self explanatory, and this thing looks and feels great. I was going to buy it in the next month, but i’m open to any suggestions if you guys have them. thanks!

The display is the deal-breaker for me, considering pro vs air. After using 120 hz display in the phone, 60 hz display in the air doesn't look smooth. You cannot read while scrolling a page in 60hz display vs 120hz display. This is my only issue not to choose the air over pro..
If Air had 120hz display, that is real dealbreaker!

The 8gb ram 250gb SSD will die pretty fast, and once it's dead you have only 2 options
Apple can replace the mb which will cost like a new Mac air
    Or buy a new one
Apple also placed a 12v rail very close to the SSD nand, and it tends to fry it's for no reason for many people and kill the SSD even earlier than expected

@@j.m4a1 refurbished from apple is a good idea, from my understanding they are in brand new condition.
