Yes, Scaled and Icy (SAI) has a very different feel … intentionally. It was written during the pandemic (which also explains the longer hair 😉 and the buns were influenced by his little girl Rosie) and has a different tie-in to the Dema lore. This song has been a fun addition to their live show. I think the studio version is a bit more restrained. Others from SAI that I would recommend: - Choker - Saturday - The Outside (watch after Saturday - it’s a continuation) - Redecorate (lyric video)

The change up in style is also directly related to the ongoing story from Dema etc. I don’t know if you could find it but if you get a chance to watch the livestream definitely do, it was phenomenal & the thought and effort put into it mind blowing.
I still think you should do Neon Gravestones off of Trench. Really good musically, has a good flow, but a pretty heavy topic. So only do that song if you're feeling deep.
I like this studio version of Shy Away, but his song hits harder live with Tylers screams and emotions. They also mash it with MCR's I'm not okay. You should check it out, either for reaction or just for yourself. Scaled and Icy is short for Scaled back and Isolated - a reference to their songwriting experience during Covid , each working from their home studios to create this album. It was released May 2021. Tyler stated in 2020 that he was working on two separate albums, one was a bit riskier. It's assumed he was referring to Scaled and Icy as riskier since it is big departure from Trench. It is more upbeat sounding - something he felt we needed after Covid. I agree with Tyler - I needed SAI so bad. Ilove both SAI and Trench even though, or maybe because, they are so different. They are different moods,, and I like that about TOP'S songwriting. I loved the space buns. I wish Tyler kept his hair long. We all grew it out in Covid - I guess he wanteda fresh start yet again. The Outside was also off SAI . The Outside is another one that's better live. You should check for concert tickets. They are currently touring through September and that might be it for the current album. TOP are amazing live!
I love this album. It is completely different than the other albums that they have that I love. Some songs sounds like classic rock, some sound Elton John like some sound like Billy Joel. It’s just different than past albums in a lot of ways
@@Odd1006 it grew on me. At first “Never Take It” was the only song I liked immediately. The rest I really liked after I really looked at the lyrics. The only one I do not like is everyone’s favorite for some reason. “Redecorate” is an automatic skip for me. I don’t like the sound, the song, anything. It’s nails on a chalkboard for me. But most people say it’s their favorite. So, I’m wrong I guess. 😁 Trench is #1 for me as well.

Also, the new album is good...um no spoilers but check out Mulberry lane I think it has for me at least captured the whole vibe of the album and condensed it into a song. they don't sound the same but more the energy, mood, mental state of the band?? idk something along those lines.

Their newer album is similar sounding to this - it's a lot more like pop/soft rock almost 80s throwback - minus two of the tracks at the end Saturday and Shy Away are probably the biggest hits from Scaled and Icy - Redecorate is a really deep and good song - more rap than the rest of the album
