I been working for Lyft for 6 months. Honest God truth I have only had 2 rides where I got 4 stars, rest is 5s. I have given 1800 rides and I don't give away nothing for free. He'll learn soon enough how little he actually is making after expenses. The fact that Jay left out one of the most important aspects of the money earned, which is, how many hours he had to work to make that money, makes this video useless. Reality check: He's making far less then minimum wage, and on top of it his car is depreciating at a rate faster then the car is paid off . You should do a followup video with this guy after he has driven a full year and paid a full year of taxes to see how enthusiastic he is, and how many doors this guy is opening then. I guarantee the answer will be zero.

How many hours is he putting in to make this $1500 a week? How much money a week does he spend on gas, water and treats? Blah ...blah...blah. Any driver that has been doing this for any amount of time knows that in order to make $1500 a week you have absolutely no life but ride share and sleep. This is why every driver in the country is pissed off and looking for a REAL job with some kind of benefits.

I drive in the Dallas/ Ft Worth area as well. I have been driving for 3 and a half years. I used to keep water in my vehicle but it didn't seem make a difference. I usually don't open doors unless the rider is elderly or has a disability. Perhaps I should open more doors. I would like to add one more tip. Keep your vehicle clean. People really appreciate a clean car.

The weekends are obviously the best time. About 4pm till 4am on Friday and Saturday nights are the best times for me. Uptown and Deep Ellum are best places to get good rides. You have to deal with a lot of traffic and drunks, I can average 20 plus an hour in this period. A lot of drivers will work the early morning hours, 4am till about 10 am in downtown Dallas or Ft. Worth during the week. They get a lot of people going to work or the airports. Good luck.

Don’t need to do that, know your city and be nice to the pax. I average 12% tips without doing anything other than knowing my city and being nice. I rarely unless it’s an old lady or man or it’s a female with a huge bag, but I rarely help with luggage and still get tips

First 1 1/2 years of driving (Uber only), I gave small waters, mints and butterscotch candies. Consistently, rude riders would stick Candy wrappers between the seats, in special nooks and crannies, leave empty water bottles under the seats etc. I would loan out an iPhone charger for the back seats and maybe 1 time a rider physically handed back to me. Everyone else would just rip their phone off the charger and throw it on the ground. In this last year, I do not provide any of these amenities anymore and it hasn’t affected my tips one iota because people do not tip in our Phoenix market. A normal day, maybe 10% of my total daily gross earnings is from tips. I am 50 years old and have been driving for 2 1/2 years. This gig is hard enough on the body. Your interviewee is 55 and driving for 3 weeks. I would be curious to see how enthused he will be after 6 months or a year or two of jumping out after each ride to open the rider’s door as if he was a chauffeur. I’m willing to bet his body will be broken down by that point! You did say he is between jobs so perhaps he has a very short term plan of being a driver until his next job and trying to maximize every possible tip in the meantime. If I were a rider, I would be a bit scared if he jumped out quickly to run around the car to open my door. Just saying!

It would take 9-10,000 miles and 168 hours I think
At the current rate give or take luck. The most important thing is the time frames you choose to drive.
Pay used to be better per mile. 55 miles would mean close to 55 dollars now I think it’s close to 30.
now it’s simple for every 2 miles you drive expect to make 1$

OK...Paul is not jaded yet, we get it!
Sounds like a lot of Sugar Coating to me.
With all the charts and graphs, you forgot to mention how many miles he is putting on that, (used to be new) Kia Soul, and how much the formerly new value has already depreciated!
Put that number in an excel spread sheet, along with the fuel, insurance, car wsh, and other maintenance costs.
Also, you forgot to mention how many hours he is sitting in his car seat each week, and each day!
Perhaps he will soon find out that a seven day a week, 70 hour week is not much fun!
Also, the cost of all the geedunks and chotskies that he is giving out to everyone.
Hey, Uber loves drivers like Paul, and they are the ones who are usually invited to the Uber Drier Forums, because they just sit there silently, and complacently, until Dara tells a dumb joke and then they applaud!
They never ask the hard questions about low rates, and Uber control of so called Independent Contractors.
    All is well!

I have only been driving for 5 months but ai think this guy should worry about getting deactivated and being given no explanation or just that the system did it automatically. Is it hit jobs from cut throat drivers? He will eventually get more one stars and after that probably spend the rest of his life wondering which seemingly satisfied customer did it.
This is our problem as drivers at this point in time. I'm not trying to be negative but how many above 4.9 star driver deactivations are there? Google it.
