Thorough review as usual, Mark, I'm getting flashbacks to my old, black Fazer 600. The R7 looks out of this world in the 60th Anniversary paint scheme.

Excellent review. Ive been looking forward to this. It kind of makes me think back to my rd350f2. Narrow, agile and whippet-like. Looks fantastic and sounds great too. The 60th anniversary version in white with speed block decals is stunning. An amazing bike for the money. Makes me wish i was 20 years younger.

"Easy off the side stand. Easy to push back and forth. But we're not going to try pushing it around to face the other way while standing on the left side of the bike." It would have been interesting to see the turning radius on that narrow lane. Good review. Happy New Year!

I also appreciate the way you are non-judgemental and seem to love all types of bike. By the way for some reason that R7 reminds me a lot of an FZ600 I had back in the early 90s. Reminds me of the 90s ThunderCat, which was a great motorcycle.
Instead of the way too track focused R6 Yamaha should consider a return of the Cat.
In a contemporary style obviously, with a four cilinder engine at around 100/110 hbp.

I had a GPZ600 Ninja (1987...) - I just looked up the power to weight : 84bhp/173kgs.Very similar to this Yamaha. I am amazed, that thing seemed Very fast in 1988 - I had a 60mph roll on race with a Ferrari once and we were the same!
    But...
    I still think calling this Yamaha an "R" is just wrong, R7 ?? 72bhp @ 8,750rpm ??
In 1999 I rode my friends new R6 - lighter than this R7 - 120bhp revved to 13000 odd - it went like a guided missile once you revved it.
Sorry for me, this bike is weird just weird with all the brembos etc and quickshifter and a lot of wrist ache for nothing unless you're racing them.

Those of us old enough to remember the GPZ500 will be astonished at how ahead of the game Kawasaki was. They even used the platform for the ER5 roadster and KLE500 adventure style bike. Yamaha (and Honda of course) have shamelessly ripped-off the idea, but sadly for Kawasaki, both did it better.

My olny gripe with the R7 is that the r6 had 120 hp at 600 cc and the r7 has 70 hp and the dream of screaming down the track or for some seconds on the highway is no more ...More expensive for quite little. Tipical modern economy of market. Other than that 🤣, it's a good bike
