It's really interesting hearing what the pundits had to say in 2003 about Boston, knowing what we know now about how they tried to dip their toes into the Moneyball pool by poaching Billy Beane. Seems like they tried to experiment with those kinds of cost-saving metrics, as well, and in the end, they went and got their Chad Bradford in Kim Byung-hyun.

Michael Holley was just a hair too early with the Pistons pick, but they were right on the cusp in 03 (didn't they make a huge 0-3 comeback in one series?) and getting Rasheed just put them in perfect position - MAN I miss that era, highly competitive in retrospect

Mariotti got involved in a DV incident and was fired by both ESPN and the Sun-Times as a result. Don't know what he is doing now. Holley is co-hosting a show with fellow ESPN expedite Michael Smith on Peacock+ called Brother From Another. Link here:

This is awesome that you are got an old ATH episode. That show rocks. You wouldn't happen to have the one in 2009 the day after the Patriots-Colts game. That one has a classic moment between Woody and Jay Mariotti where Woody tries to make a point and Mariotti interrupts. To which Woody says, "Over the years. WOULD YOU SHUT UP!!!" And then Mariotti gets muted by current host Tony Reali. 😆😆😆😆😆😆

Back when the East had solid to good teams in the playoffs but barely any elite teams, while the West had basically elite teams 1-8 making the playoffs. The post-Jordan-era. 1998-2008, 11 seasons
By "elite", I mean that the West teams making the Finals should be "scared" of facing them in the Finals
Only elite teams on the East during this era were
    2003-2004 Pistons. Won the Finals
2003-2004 Pacers. Lost in East Finals to the Pistons that won the title.
2004-2005 Heat. Lost a heartbreaking game 7 at home against the Pistons in the East Finals.
2004-2005 Pistons. Made the Finals, but lost to the Spurs. Almost won that Finals as well.
2005-2006 Pistons. Lost to the Heat in the East Finals.
2007-2008 Pistons. Lost to the Celtics in the East Finals.
    2007-2008 Celtics. Won the Finals
After the 2007-2008 season, there was finally balance among both conferences

  • @mukhtarroble5885

  • @hmhm856
    @hmhm856 22 дня назад

Dallas won 60 games, yet they were laughing when mentioned as a team that has a chance to win the West. I can only think of the 60-win-Hawks and had the 1-seed as another team that no one believed had a chance to make the Finals (they made the East Finals, but lost to Lebron and the Cavs)
I do agree that Sacramento was the team that was gonna win the West, but the C-Webb injury changed everything
And who knows how the Lakers would have done in the playoffs if Robert Horry wasnt so horrendous from 3 that postseason.
