For reasons I have struggled to grasp, Squale have engendered very different opinions among watch fans. Personally, I have own a Squale 2002 from the mid-2010s and for many years and it has been a fantastic workhorse watch that can bare obscene levels of physcal misuse (the cusion case design does much to disguise the absolutely tank like construction of the watch) without the slighest complaint as well as being extraordinarly accurate as delivered from the factory. I believe I paid about £500 secondhand for it when I purchased it in 2018 and, among the 50 or so watches I own, I consider it among my best purchases.

I was looking for a GMT watch, with a pepsi bezel (and of course I was not going to buy a Rolex). Then I saw the Squale GMT 30 ATMOS. After learning about the brand, I bought it, and I'm just amazed with the quality of the watch, the bracelet and the clasp.
    Perfect size and affordable price.

I own the Squale Drass Galeazzi and it is my favourite dive watch, despite the lume being less than magnificent. My son has the Squale Montauk from Long Island Watch and, at $465, it has to be the bargain of the year. I enjoy the legacy and quirkiness of the double logo… and Squale is priced right in inflated Seiko territory. Apart from the Prospex Sumo, there is very little competition at the price. Thanks for the review, Jory.

I too have the black one and am very pleased that I took a chance on buying it sight unseen. One thing that wasn't mentioned is the 20mm lug width. All of the other Squale Sub 39s have a 22mm lug width. I think that the 20mm lug width looks better with the 39mm case. Also you can specify what size strap will come on the black one. Very nice touch if you have a smaller size wrist. (Most stock straps are either too big or I end up using the last hole with a lot of tail left over on my 6.5" wrist). Whatawatches was super cool to deal with and as other shave alluded to, throw in a lot of nice goodies with the watch. That and the high end Horween leather band and hand made watch box helped me to justify the somewhat premium price that I paid for this watch. I also have a Squale 20 Atmos Militaire 1545 on a bracelet that is also a very nice watch for one third of the price. Big fan a the Squale brand!

I purchased the black one and it is very nice. I put it on the timegrapher and it was spot on. Jory forgot to mention the very nice Horween shell corovan leather strap on the black watch, which is very comfortable. These are expensive and may be the reason why the black watch is more expensive (the white watch comes with a fabric strap). Glad you finally got a Squale to review - great video and spot on review. I have several Squales in the collection, including my favorite the 60th Anniversary Special Edition - this is the most vintage looking and true to the original Squale release from 1959. These Corso Italiano have many of the 1959 design elements and thus are a good alternative to the 60th Anniversary edition since there were only 150 of those produced. Excluding the 60th Anniversary edition, I generally have paid between $700-1,000 for my Squales and they are definitely in that value category as a really good choice.

These look nice. Squale are an interesting brand with a long history. I have a Squale Drass Galeazzi (great watch built like a panzer tank) which uses the SW200 movement like all their collections. From what I can see the Corso is exclusive to Whatawatches under their collaboration with Squale and unusual as they use the ETA movement. These seem to be priced a bit above what Squale usually sell their sub39 watches for.

I own the black dial version of the sub39 corso italiano, and I don’t disagree with the comments in the video for the most part. Two cons not mentioned are that the lume isn’t spectacular with the faux patina, and the crown is slightly more difficult to screw in/out since the lip of the bezel overhangs the case a tad. Cracking watch though, and I’m more than comfortable with a ghost date crown position because mine literally keeps better time than the COSC certified diver in my collection. Also this watch really needs some content out in sunlight. The warm dial looks great under the soft white of a desk lamp, but the contrast with the shiny hands and bezel really pops outdoors. Just my opinion but I think this is the most faithful version to the Blancpain references Squale helped to make back in the day as well. One other thing I don’t think was mentioned in the review - these models have 20mm lug widths which is different from the non-limited models Squale sells on their website. Totally personal preference, but 20mm is the most ideal lug width if you ask me. Thanks for the vid T3!

They are decent watches , the two I have gotten as part of trade deals both told time well but both kind of have wonky crowns. I'd buy one resale & obviously take them in trades currently dont have one but these are neat looking.

I own the TGV version of this watch with a blue face/circle sub-indices, TGV initials under the Squale crown at noon and 22mm lugs. I'm thinking of selling it because 1) it's hard to wind with the coned crown (plus the fact that 2824 are generally stiff to wind), 2) the bezel has a little overhang increasing diameter to 40.6mm from 39mm and 3) I prefer 20mm lugs. I'll also add that the case back is pretty weak as it's only sand blasted and doesn't even list the movement. That said, the watch does get worn in my eight watch collection. Plus, the case (including the coned crown) and case sides look great and much better than the slab sides on say the Tudor BB (much more expensive) or Island Watch Montak Squale (half the price).

The TGV initials doesn't bother me at all. I think TGV deserves credit for raising the bar on RUclips watch videos and so many hours of entertaining and interesting videos.

@@bobsinca he does but I just don’t like the TGV initials on it. It doesn’t serve any horological value or purpose to the watch.
Neither has he contributed anything to watches other than reviewing watches. At least the sea master had a popular film reference to the watch. TGV at most only reached a couple millions people.
So the TGV initials is really a annoyance to see on the dial. Imagine someone asking you,
X: Hey, what’s TGV on the face of your watch?
Y: Oh, he is a watch reviewer on RUclips
X: wow! he must be famous with millions of subscribers?
Y: erm, just shy of half a million sub
      X: oh, cool.

Bought one Squale, now own 2. For some reason this watch brand just feels awesome on the wrist. It feels heavy (which I like), the lines and contours are smooth and clean. I own about 12 watches, my Squale are the cheapest yet I wear them the most.

  • @johansoderstrom5424

I had a Sub39-model and liked it. But the ones coming from Squale have 22mm lugs, and I think whata whatches made it 20mm and it looks way better. Agree on the cons with the crown, it didnt feel right setting the time, always felt like something was broken. And the lume isnt good enough for a brand with this kind of history in dive watches.
But a beautiful watch with the case beeing star of the show :D

In fairness most of Squales range is sub $1000. These limited editions are made for and sold exclusively by Whatawatches in Korea, who has set the price. Given the recent run of these limited edition vintage inspirations, ir begs the question why (when?) Squale itself doesnt release its own line of vintage inspred designs. I own a 1521 Squale LE scuba from gnomon ($820) couldnt be happier with build quality ++

Now... I like quirky and watches with a twist.
But... what I can't deal with is that assymetrical dial application or in this case logo (Doxa watches & Christopher Ward C60 Sapphire, same story)
Otherwise... that white dial one sure seems like a winner.
But at that price for a single watch as well... I'd rather have me a couple of microbrands instead tbh. I just got my Nodus Sector Pilot Phantom in today...

I own a 2018 Squale 1521 50 Atmos "Ocean Blasted" and paid $600 for it, used. It's most likely a keeper 'cause there's no other watch with such an amazing blue/blue presence anywhere close to that price point. Nearest relative would be a blue Tudor Pelagos, but even used those cost about 3 times as much.
I personally would not spend $1,4K on a Squale, as for that kind of money, I have plenty of other options.
